Abstract
Personality plays an important part in ones behavior in the work place. One’s behavior good or bad is influenced by personality and their value system (Robbins and Judge, 2009). We see the various personalities within a team or organization; personality test have become a great way to identify strengths and weaknesses of individuals. After taking the Prentice Hall’s Self-Assessment Library test I discovered that I scored highest for “how satisfied I am with my job”. I believe the economy and job market played a part in my answers and scored the lowest for “how involved I am with my job” (Pearson Education, 2008, I.B.2). My Jungian 16-Type Personality was revealed to be an ENTJ (Pearson Education, 2008, I.A.2) on the previously Typology test I was an INFJ. The assessment revealed that I am for diversity, and I have a flexible view of others. The survey did confirm my leadership style of me being task oriented, even with my concern for others I work in a metrics and customer service driven work environment so the goal is always about completing the task and satisfying the customers.

Step 1

Part 1: What about me?

The first part of the Prentice Hall’s Self-Assessment is titled “What about me?”. The assessment helped to provide insight into the various parts of my personality in the areas of values, attitude, motivations and decision-making (Pearson Education, 2008). On the first assessment I scored highest for conscientiousness and lowest for openness to experience (Pearson Education, 2008, I.A.1). Conscientiousness is a personality dimension that describes someone who is responsible, dependable, persistent, and organized (Robbins and Judge, 2009). My Jungian 16-Type Personality scored me as an ENTJ (Pearson Education, 2008, I.A.2). However, my typology test results had me as an INFJ personality type (Kroeger, Thuesen, and Rutledge, 2009). When I compare the two personality types they are the same in some areas for example INFJ is creative and reflective; ENTJ is a visionary and a natural leader. You have to be reflective to be a leader to think about decisions and also learn from past mistakes and even find ways to improve on success that one has had in the past. For assessment “What Motivates Me” my score was correct in the area of growth needs I am substantially unsatisfied. I am unsatisfied because I feel that my career should along further because of the job responsibilities I have and along with the knowledge I have that others do not have. Per the assessment for “Am I A TYPE-A”, my score was defined as being a negative type A (Pearson Education, 2008, I.A.3). I agree with parts of this assessment because I do not like long term projects where I may not see results for an extended period. I do get impatience at times if something is not moving at my desired pace. I am praying for more patience once it comes with me personally than it will be shown in the workplace. Philippians 4:6 says “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God”
Part 2: Working With Others This section was eye opening for me especially in the area of communications skills. I actually thought I communicated better than what I scored on the assessments. For the assessment “What’s my face to face communication style”, my scores in all categories where low and around zero on average and many of them on the minus side (Pearson Education, 2008, II.A.1). For “How good are my listening skills” I scored above what the assessment considered a below average skill, however I would have thought my score would have higher. To be an effective leader one needs to have good listening skills (Pearson Education, 2012, II.A.2). Listening, or the ability to listen discriminately, is one of the most important communicative skills which an individual can possess (Way, 2013). I need to improve in this area to become a better teammate and to help me in leadership roles.
Under "What's My Leadership Style", my score indicates that I am more task-oriented than people-oriented (Pearson Education, 2012). With this leadership style I will make sure productivity and task are complete. To team members and workers they may not be happy with my focus on the job and not their needs at times on projects. For the assessment “How Good am I at Building & Leading a team” I scored in the second quartile (Pearson Education, 2008, II.B.6). I agree this assessment I use my relationships with co-workers and knowledge of who has the proper skills that are needed to handle the project when building a team. I lead by establishing goals and timelines for the teams and then see if those timelines can be met to accomplish the task and then I let the teams work at their pace to meet the timelines and push them when needed to accomplish the goal. Part 3: Life in Organizations For assessment “What Type of Organization Structure do I prefer” in the range I scored shows that I have a preference for working in a mechanistic structure, (Pearson Education, 2012, 111.A.1). I like this structure because it eliminates a lot of the gray area within an organization. I speak from firsthand experience where there are no clear lines of authority and responsibility, bosses not available and the lack of organization rules can make a work environment difficult and it can also frustrate customers which normally can have them going in circles to find answers.
Under "How well do I respond to turbulent change", my score was below the average and the score suggest that I would be over-whelmed with a manger position (Pearson Education, 2012, 111.C.1). This is yet another area that can stand improvement for my overall growth. I disagree with that assessment that I would be overwhelmed; I used my personal work examples when taking the assessment and reorgs can be painful especially when they seem not to be well thought out and the reorgs have you making changes daily between ones old and new positions.
Step 2 From taking the assessments I have learned a lot about my personality and how it affects my behavior in a work environment. Personality and individual values in a workplace plays a part in production and accomplishing task. Values and ethics are intertwined. Ethical perspectives provide a framework of values by which to make decisions for society and organizations (Fischer, 2013). The assessment also shows how I like structure and clear defined roles to avoid gray areas and crack within an organization. I have learned that organizations On a personal level, there were areas such as communication that I thought I was strong in and the assessment scores shows I need a lot of work and improvement. I need better communication skills in the areas of communicating and listening. Also, on a personal level I need to have more patience which I know and I have been praying for. With My current position listening and communicating is critical. I listen to internal and external customers issues and try to help them solve problems. If I cannot communicate then I am no help them or my company. By improving my skills for the Communication processes and gaining patience will help me to become a better employee, coworker, and manager.
Step 3
The Gospel and Personal Reflections
According to Fischer, (2006), “these personality tests for the projects as a means of helping you come to terms with ways that God has gifted and equipped you to serve His purposes in whatever organization He has you in”. Not only are the personality test great for the business world but they also help one on an individual level. My assessment shows that I need more patience this is something that I need to pray for and it also helps me when doing my Christian duties impatience is not of Christ so I need to pray and work on correcting this personal flaw. The personality test results can be used within organizations within our church no matter if it’s the trustee board to community outreach programs. The one thing that we have to remember is to stick to our Christian ethics and values; we not be popular because of this. But we have to remember what John 15:19 says “If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you”.

A self-assessment was completed by an employee under the simulated company Riordan Manufacturing. Derrick is an actual employee under current supervision and the assessment scores will be used for the assignments. All scores and results are determined by the Parsons Prentice Hall self-assessment library. Analysis is predetermined by the scoring of each individual question on the self-assessment library. The scoring and analysis are useful when determining the management recommendations and creating a motivational action plan. To keep Derrick satisfied, finding the problem with his co-workers inabilities to get along with each other will be a priority for management to resolve. The self-assessment did find Derrick to feel very satisfied with the freedom to accomplish tasks without constant supervision. The score of 71 for job satisfaction can help reduce absenteeism and turnover within the organization. The lowest scores from the self-assessment came from the self-engaged and the deliberate decision scales. The scoring was reversed in several of the questions affecting the overall score of the self-assessment. Fully engaging Derrick to the priorities of the organization would increase the chances of positive outcomes when dealing with work related activities. Although deliberate decision......

Learning Team Leadership Analysis

... Learning Team Leadership Learning Team Leadership Evaluation The global economy, geographically distributed organizations, and increasingly rapid technological changes have added a level of complexity that has changed the nature of business interrelationships. Managerial self-awareness and personal reflection play an important role in the leadership development process (McCarthy & Garavan, 1999). The 360-degree feedback process, multisource assessments, and personality inventories are useful in the context of leadership development (Church & Bracken, 1997; McCarthy & Garavan, 1999). Selfassessment and personal reflection are valuable tools in achieving personal and professional 2 growth and success. The challenge, however, is that self-assessment is oftentimes a difficult task due to the subjectivity of personal perceptions of strengths and weaknesses. The purpose of this essay is to report out on the assessment of the leadership styles of individual team members and identify the most important areas for improvement. The essay commences with a discussion on the criteria used for the selection of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) as a self-awareness leadership instrument. The essay continues with an analysis of individual team member results from the Myers-Briggs and concludes with a set of recommendations by acknowledging that leadership styles vary among individuals and the personality of the individual plays an important role in developing his or her leadership......

Nursing Standard. 15, 42, 39-42. Date of acceptance: March 19 2001. Summary This article describes the application of constant comparative analysis, which is one method that can be used to analyse qualitative data. The need for data analysis to be congruent with the overall research design is highlighted. T HE AIM OF qualitative research is to portray the reality of the area under investigation, and to enhance understanding of the situation and the meanings and values attributed to this by individuals; it does not involve the quantification of facts (Rose 1994). Qualitative methods emphasise the value of individual experiences and views, as encountered in real-life situations. This type of investigation is often useful in nursing, as many issues concern the quality of the lived experience of individuals, which cannot be reduced to numerical values using statistical analysis. Sometimes a mixed methodology might be adopted, with elements of qualitative and quantitative enquiry being included in a study. The nature of qualitative enquiry means that volumes of ‘rich’, ‘deep’ data are produced, often from a variety of sources. While not seeking to reduce data to statistical evidence, qualitative data nevertheless requires systematic analysis. Given the volume of data produced, the......
