Self assessment is a process in which you examine yourself in attempt to discover and learn more about yourself. Your likes, dislikes, behaviors, attitudes and habits can be found during this process. Much of the determinants of personal health status lie within the control of individuals including issues of life-style, nutrition, consumption of alcohol and tobacco products. Such behavior may be modified through health promotion activities and incorporate the effect on others such as immunization of children. You can use the discoveries to your advantage by accepting or changing strengths and weaknesses. I still suffer from depression from time to time, with no particular triggers that bring it on, but only lasts for a day or two. Stress is the main issue in my life, as I stress over everything. Stress is a common problem that affects almost all of us at some point in our lives. Learning to identify when you are under stress, what is stressing you, and different ways of coping with stress can greatly improve both your mental and physical well being. Stress can affect both your body and your mind. People under large amounts of stress can become tired, sick, and unable to concentrate or think clearly. My biggest stresses would be school, family, and money. School has been great so far, but I stress about getting all my work done on time, writing papers because I don't feel I am that good at it, and having to go to the campus for classes rather than online. I stress over my daughter, if she is safe when shes at school, if kids are being mean to her, if she is happy with life, if my parenting skills are going to help her become a decent adult, and so much more. Finances are always difficult, I manage my money pretty well in regards to paying my bills on time every month but not so much in regards to saving. I like to spend money on my daughter and our home which I could be putting away for emergencies or the future. I have tried to use different techniques to manage my stress, but I have always …show more content…
Today, violence results in more than 1.5 million people being killed each year, and many more suffer non-fatal injuries and chronic, non-injury health consequences as a result of suicide attempts, interpersonal violence (youth violence, intimate partner violence, child maltreatment, elder abuse and sexual violence) and collective violence (war and other forms of armed conflict). Overall, violence is among the leading causes of death worldwide for people aged 15–44 years. I grew up in a physically abusive home. I made a promise to myself that I would never be violent towards my daughter, as I know the damage that comes from it. Even after I left home I gravitated to the "not so good" people, whether as a friendship or a dating relationship. Most of the guys I would date would turn out to be violent in one way or another. It was a long, hard, and painful journey through life like that, but I was able to come out of it a stronger person, not only for myself but for my daughter. The last thing I want is for her to go through all the struggles and abuse that I went through. That's why I strive to better myself to be a good model for her as she keeps growing

Self Assessment Research Paper

...My Self Assessment and Journey through this Semester Through my self assessment I will discuss my journey this semester in college writing and the skills I have learned and the skills that still need some improvements; from confidence to five page essays and what’s important to me and my future of learning. First of all, one of the most important accomplishments to me that I have obtained this semester, is confidence. However, I understand this may not be a skill learned from class, but it’s the skills I have learned in class that gave me the ability to feel more confident in my learning. As a high school drop out at the age of 14 years old and my couple attempts of college, I lacked confidence. Without confidence I was unable to retain anything due to constantly second guessing myself and never taking the leap into learning. Nonetheless, from the moment I started this semester I feared failure, but when I took my first quiz on comma splices and received a grade of 85 my confidence grew stronger, although, I still could use some improvement with comma splices and other punctuation....

Assessment Tool Analysis Paper

...Assessment Tool Analysis Paper Assessment is the first and most important element of the nursing process. Assessment tools are not merely designed to measure the physical nature of the illness. They can also measure the psychosocial, spiritual, and emotional well-being of the patient. Watson felt that addressing the patient's mind, body and spirit can promote health and individual or family growth. She felt that nursing was distinctive through the science of caring and medicine involved curing (Suliman, Welmann, Omer & Thomas, 2009). In this paper I will be discussing three assessment tools that can be used by nurses to verify better, organize, and interpret a patient's emotional and spiritual well-being. I will describe the purpose of each tool and the population it might be useful. I will give data such as; cost, length of time to complete, ease of using and intended population. I will also describe how this tool enhances the assessment phase of the nursing process and the quality of care delivered by the nurse. Lastly, I will apply these tools to the vulnerable older population chosen from my Self Awareness paper. The three assessment tools that I selected were: The Spiritual Well-Being Scale, Derogatis Stress Profile, and the Perceived Stress Scale. The Spiritual Well-Being Scale This Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS) is an easy assessment tool, designed for adults to self-assess their perceived spiritual well-being. There are twenty questions answered by paper and pencil...

Current Business Research Project

...Current Business Research Project Sharron Jones University of Phoenix Res/341 Jim Triplett June 13, 2011 Current Business Research Project This paper is a synopsis of a research study in price knowledge measurement scales used in the food and clothing retail industry. This paper will define and identify the business research, purpose of the study, problems under investigation, methods of data collection, and the ending result. The article this synopsis is based on is “On the Validity of Price Knowledge Measurements via self-assessment scales: two studies in retail” (Eberhardt, Kenning, & Schneider, 2009, p. 1). Business research is defined “as a systematic and organized effort to investigate a specific problem encountered in a work setting that needs a solution” (Sekaran, 2003, p. 5). The business research used in respect to price knowledge measurement includes addressing self-assessment versus percentage absolute deviation (PAD), and the retail branch of food versus clothes. The problem under investigation is determining the validity of scales used to measure consumer price knowledge used in marketing to influence market price and profit (Eberhardt et al., 2009, p. 1). Previous research is outdated and does not consider important factors such as brand power, or demographics, and was performed from the viewpoint of a researcher and not the consumer (Eberhardt et al., 2009, p. 2). The researchers performed separate studies in food and clothing retail in Germany...

...Western Journal of Nursing Research, 32(8), 1055-1072. This journal covers the important stages of the Learning needs assessment and how it impacts every educational process that is aimed to inform changes in practice and policy for continuing professional development. Professional opportunities have been widely used as a basis for the development of learning needs assessment. This article reports on the development of a learning needs assessment questionnaire for Community Health Nurses (CHNs). Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to examine the consistency of factors underpinning the Canadian Community Health Nursing (CCHN) Standards. Also, validity and reliability of the questionnaire were evaluated using appropriate techniques. This process resulted in a valid and reliable CHN learning needs assessment questionnaire to measure learning needs of large groups of practitioners, where other forms of measurement cannot be feasibly conducted. ...PRACTICE: THE SELF-CARE MODEL OF DOROTHEA OREM Introduction The purpose of this paper is to discuss the application of Dorothea Orem’s Self-Care Model of Nursing to clinical nurse practice. The central thesis of the paper is that Orem’s theory has strong utility for application to modern day clinical practice and can be applied to most any case in order to attain the desired medical and caring outcomes. The presented discussion will support this perspective of Orem’s theory. The paper begins with a brief overview of the theory which is then followed by a delineation of a non-nursing theory that supports one or more of Orem’s self-care notions. The next section of the paper presents a historical overview of the evolution of Orem’s theory, a delineation of the concepts central to the metaparadigm, and an exploration of the theory’s usefulness in education and research. The final section of the paper applies the theory to a particular case. A model of the theory is presented in Appendix A. Orem’s Self-Care Theory Alligood and Marriner-Tomey (2001) state that conceptual or theoretical models of nurse practice are pivotal to the field, providing the profession with a guide to patient care and with a general frame of reference that connects the structural environment to the patters of behavior and relationships within the organization. The Orem Self-Care Model of Nursing (Orem, Taylor & McLaughlin, 2003) is one such model. According to Seedhouse (2000), the Orem Self-Care Model...
