In all honesty in reference to this assignment Dr. Dewitt, I have never completed a self-assessment and actually worked on my areas of weakness. I am happy to say that I am actually working on my two areas of concerns: establishing procedures and communication delivery with adults. Although this process has diffidently required me to step out of my comfort zone I have to admit I am seeing some changes take place. My 1st areas of focus were to work on establishing procedures. I decided to apply 3 strategies that I felt would help me support and met my goal. These strategies are: before each task, ask the 5 W’s (who, what, when, where, why), always have a start and end date and include other and seek advice. I have successfully applied two of

Employee Portfolio Management Plan

...Plan Self Assessments are quizzes that help evaluate employees on their skills, interests, personality, and values. “As ethical problems have increased in organizations, integrity tests have gained popularity. These paper-and-pencil tests measure factors such as dependability, carefulness, responsibility, and honesty; they have proven to be powerful predictors of supervisory ratings of job performance and of theft, discipline problems, and excessive absenteeism” (Robbins & Judge, 2011, pg. 1). As a manager for Riordan Manufacturing, three employees took a series of self-assessment tests for my organization. The analysis and interpretation scores of all three are positive and all three would make a great contribution to the organization. Positive people cognitively process more efficiently and are more productive. Job Satisfaction and Engaged High job satisfaction was above the range that determines lower levels of absenteeism, and their general attitude toward work is positive. Their engaged scores were also high, which defines these employees are in a positive state of motivation and fulfillment. “Individuals who score high in this category are loyal, dedicated, willing to devote considerable time to work, feel inspired by and proud of their work, and become immersed and absorbed while performing their work” (Stephen P. Robbins/University of Phoenix, 2005-2009). My employees are content coming to work and will possess good work ethics and values. They are self motivated...

Reading Habit in Children

...Current Research IN READING / LANGUAGE ARTS Understanding Assessment: Putting Together the Puzzle SHEILA W. VALENCIA UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON, SEATTLE “No one test or assessment should be asked to serve all the assessment purposes. We need, at this point, a system made up of articulated components, glued together by their adherence to content standards and serving explicit purposes for assessment.” —National Council for Education Standards and Testing, 1992 discussions, and more. Now, 10 years later, we are hearing the same reminder (Brennan, Kim, WenzGross, Siperstein, 2001; Herman, 2001; International Reading Association, 1999). In fact, in July 2001 members of the National Education Association, the nation’s largest teacher’s union, endorsed a policy calling for a combination of standardized tests and other assessment tools such as teacher designed assessments when making important educational decisions (Blair & Archer, 2001). Assessment has always been a part of the educational landscape. However, because assessment can serve so many different purposes and can come in so many different forms, it has been confusing and, sometimes, it has been the subject of contentious debate. Unfortunately, as a result, many of us have come to view assessment as a necessary evil, a requirement rather than a helpful part of instruction. But assessment IS a critical part of instruction and it CAN be useful if we understand the pieces of the puzzle. As far back as 1992, when...

The lesson will be held in the classrooms at FSS. All courses will take a two week break to ensure that all instructors are available to attend the training. Why? The director of FSS determined that there was a need for training through various assessments and evaluations of the instructors when they are teaching. These elements are imperative to the context of which learning will take place. It is important to be able to assess the needs of the audience before delivering the training to the intended audience. The purpose of the training is to ensure that the instructors understand and are able to proper perform their job functions. The potential impact that this lesson will have on the instructors at FSS is they will be charged with becoming more self-sufficient at the tasks and with the second training they will be able to attend the training with more experience and a better understand of the skill then they had the first training. The strategies that will be used to guarantee that they are able to perform the tasks before the training is complete are; 1. Special Education

...Chapter 1: Student Characteristics Understand Characteristics of Students with Disabilities Some students with disabilities pass through typical developmental milestones and express skills within an average range for their age group. Others show delayed growth at certain developmental milestones, and many students with disabilities experience challenges as they navigate through the school curriculum. It is critical that special education teachers know how to differentiate between typical individual differences among children without disabilities and differences that may indicate a disability that requires interventions and/or specialized designed instruction. In addition, special education teachers need to know the most common types of disabilities that students may experience and how those disabilities affect their ability to learn and their behavior in the classroom. Competency 1 thus focuses on the characteristics of typical and atypical human growth and development and the characteristics of students with various disabilities that special education teachers are likely to encounter. The test includes a wide range of multiple-choice questions that address Competency 1. * Questions on typical and atypical behaviors and abilities for children and adolescents at particular ages. * Questions on the types and characteristics of various disabilities. * Questions on the similarities and differences among students with and without disabilities. This competency encompasses...

How Does Formative Assessment Support Student Performance?

...Question 1: How does formative assessment support student performance? Formative assessment is a ongoing process used by teachers during instruction that gives explicit feedback to students to adjust teaching and learning process to improve students’ achievement of the desired instructional outcomes. It is also known as “assessment for learning”. Formative assessment is proven to be highly effective way to enhance and support student performance. The purpose of formative assessment is to give students the means and motivation to take ownership of their own learning. This means that students need to be responsible for their own learning. Students themselves must have the initiative to discover what to learn and how to learn. At the same time, teachers play important roles to encourage students to monitor and support their own learning. More powerful learning happens when students have more control over their own learning through such assessment practices. They should not be excluded from the assessment process. Students will be able to know what they are ready to learn next. Through formative assessment, students are able to know and understand their specific learning goals clearly. This can be done through direct communication which involves interactions between teacher and student and student and student. Students are informed directly their specific learning goals. For example, at the beginning of the lesson, teacher can tell the students they will be tested on “Adverbs”...

Leadership Competency Self Assessment

...Reviewing the Competency Self-Evaluation Jennifer Offenberger Franklin University PSCY603-E2WW Abstract Research shows that leadership assessments can provide opportunities to assess and reflect on a leader’s capabilities and areas of potential growth. It can provide insight into skills such as communication and relationships that can assist in creating a positive environment. The following paper shares the results of this author’s recent Leadership Competency Self-Assessment and reflects on its results and impact on their current job. Competencies of Management: A Self-Evaluation This author completed the Table 3.2 Competencies of Management on page 91 of the Managing text. (Mintzberg, 2009). The tool is used to assess expertise in critical areas of leadership. The competencies comprise a subset of relevant management and leadership tasks. It is used to assist in identifying areas this author considers to be current strengths and areas that athe author aspires to grow and develop. Figure 1 shows the results of the self-assessment. Figure 1 When reviewing the results in Figure 1, there are patterns evident in the current competencies scoring. First, this author rated herself lower in all competencies for her current capabilities than she would like to have upon completion of her master’s program and as she develops her skills over time in her career. It’s probably noteworthy that the author would like to exhibit a high level of competency in all areas as well. This...

Knowledge Folders and Study Skills

...The Relationship between the Strategy of Knowledge Folders and Study Skills   2 Introduction Over the past several years, I have had students in my junior classes who were not performing well on their summative evaluations and did not seem to understand the importance of quality class work and homework. I currently teach juniors and seniors in a high school science academy where they are expected to be prepared for college and beyond. The students’ study skills were not evolved to the point where they could be successful in college or the workplace. I wanted the students to understand that they needed to take on the responsibility for learning and acquiring new skills which is expected in college work and in today’s changing and evolving workplace. Metacognition and motivation by the students for new study skills are important to me as a teacher. I want to enable students to succeed beyond high school by teaching them skills that will transfer to college and to the workplace. My hope is that the students will take on the responsibility for their own learning – that they would realize they have control over their actions. I decided to try to change the students’ concepts of learning and responsibility by implementing a strategy of Knowledge Folder assessments. Literature Review Simpson, Hynd, Nwast, and Burrell (1997), promoted learning study skills in the classroom as part of the daily curriculum, and not as a separate lesson from learning about the content. The study...
