The 24-Hour Clock
The 24-hour clock uses a format whereby time begins and ends at 1200 midnight (2400hrs) and carries forward by the applicable minutes, always being expressed in a four (4) digit format. For example: 1.00am = 0100

Add zero before time

2.00am = 0200

Add zero before time

3.00am = 0300

Add zero before time

10.00am = 1000

Already 4 digit—no addition necessary

Times are stated as they appear until 12.59pm, but from 1.00pm until 12.00 midnight you must add
1200 hours to the time to arrive at the time in 24-hour clock. For example:
1.05pm = 0105 + 1200 = 1305 hours
6.00pm = 0600 + 1200 = 1800 hours
8.45pm = 0845 + 1200 = 2045 hours

Page 6

Note: Times are stated in hundred hours as they are written. For example:
1.00am = 0100

Zero One Hundred Hours

11.00am = 1100

Eleven Hundred Hours

9.00pm = 2100

Twenty One Hundred Hours

11.59pm = 2359

Twenty Three Fifty Nine Hours

The phonetic alphabet
When making a reservation by telephone some confusion may arise over the spelling of a passenger's family name. If a passenger's family name is spelled incorrectly it may cause problems at check-in or when the passenger makes contact with the airline's reservations department. This confusion arises when various names or letters "sound the same" when given over the telephone. In order to overcome this problem a system has been devised where words representing letters are used, this system is known as the phonetic alphabet.
The phonetic alphabet is:

Your Health In-flight
At Qantas we care about your comfort and safety. We have included the following information about your health in-flight that we hope you will find helpful and useful.
When you are flying you can be seated and inactive for long periods of time. The environment can be low in humidity and pressurised up to an altitude of 2440 metres above sea level. Unlike other forms of transportation, air travel allows for rapid movement across many time zones, causing a disruption to the body's 'biological clock'.
Although these factors do not pose a health or safety threat to most customers, there are guidelines you can follow that will aid comfort during and after a flight.
Cabin Humidity and Dehydration
Humidity levels of less than 25 percent are common in the cabin. This is due to the extremely low humidity levels of the outside air supplied to the cabin. The low humidity can cause drying of the nose, throat and eyes and it can irritate wearers of contact lens.
We recommend that you:

Drink water and juices frequently during your flight.

Drink coffee, tea and alcohol in moderation. These drinks act as diuretics, increasing the body's dehydration. •

Remove contact lenses and wear glasses if your eyes are irritated.

Use a skin moisturiser to refresh the skin.

Eating and Drinking
Proper eating and drinking will enhance your comfort both during and after your flight.
We recommend that you:

Australian College QED

Page 15

Avoid overeating just before and during the flight. It is difficult to digest too much food when the body is inactive.

Drink coffee, tea and alcohol in moderation. These drinks act as diuretics, increasing the body's dehydration. Blood Circulation and Muscle Relaxation
When you're sitting upright and inactive for a long period of time, several things can happen:

The central blood vessels in your legs can be compressed, making it harder for the blood to get back to your heart.

Muscles can become tense, resulting in backaches and a feeling of excessive fatigue during, and even after your flight.

The normal body mechanism for returning fluid to the heart, can be inhibited and gravity can cause the fluid to collect in your feet, resulting in swollen feet after a long flight.

Some studies have concluded that prolonged immobility may be a risk factor in the formation of blood clots in the legs, deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Particular medications and medical conditions may increase the risk of formation of blood clots if associated with prolonged immobility. Medical research indicates that factors that may give you an increased risk of blood clots in the legs include: •

Personal or family history of DVT.

Recent surgery or injury, especially to lower limbs or abdomen.

Blood disorders leading to increased clotting tendency.

Immobilisation for a day or more.

If you are aged above 40 years.

Oestrogen hormone therapy, including oral contraceptives.

Pregnancy.

Tobacco smoking.

Former or current malignant disease.

Obesity.

Dehydration.

Heart failure.

Varicose veins.

Recommendations:

If any of these categories apply to you or you have any concerns about your health and flying, we recommend you seek medical advice before travelling.

Compression stockings can assist in preventing swelling of the ankles and feet and they may improve the blood return to the body from the lower legs. You may like to talk to your doctor about this. The stockings may be purchased from medical and surgical supply companies and will need to be individually fitted to your leg measurements.

While in-flight, move your legs and feet for three to four minutes per hour while seated and move about the cabin occasionally.

Do the light exercises recommended below in the In-flight Workout section.

Page 16

Australian College QED

Domestic Fares & Ticketing

Schedules Guide & Tariff

In-flight Workout
These exercises are designed to provide a safe way to stretch and enjoy movement in certain muscle groups that can become stiff as a result of long periods of sitting. They may be effective at increasing the body's blood circulation and massaging the muscles.
We recommend that you do these exercises for around three or four minutes every hour and occasionally get out of your seat and walk down the aisles.
Each exercise should be done with minimal disturbance to other passengers. None of the following exercises should be performed if they cause pain or cannot be done with ease.
1.

Ankle Circles
Lift foot off the floor.
Draw a circle with the toes simultaneously moving one foot clockwise and the other counter clockwise.
Reverse circles, rotate in each direction for 15 seconds.

2. Foot Pumps
Foot motion is in three stages.
Start with both heels on the floor and point feet upward as high as you can.
Put both feet flat on the floor.
Lift heels high, keeping balls of feet on the floor.
Repeat these three stages in a continuous motion and in 30-second intervals.
3. Knee Lifts
Lift leg with knee bent while contracting your thigh muscle.
Alternate legs. Repeat 20 to 30 times for each leg.

4. Neck Roll
With shoulders relaxed, drop ear to shoulder and gently roll neck forward and back, holding each position about five seconds. Repeat five times.

5.

Knee to Chest
Bend forward slightly. Clasp hands around the left knee and hug it to your chest. Hold stretch for 15 seconds.
Keeping hands around the knee, slowly let it down. Alternate legs. Repeat
10 times.

Australian College QED

6. Forward Flex
With both feet on the floor and stomach held in, slowly bend forward and walk your hands down the front of your legs toward your ankles. Hold stretch for 15 seconds and slowly sit back up.

7.

Shoulder Roll
Hunch shoulders forward, then upward, then backward, and downward, using a gentle circular motion

Cabin Pressurisation
It is necessary to pressurise the outside air drawn into the cabin to a sufficient density for your comfort and health. Cabins are pressurised to a maximum cabin altitude of 2440 metres.
The cabin pressure and normal rates of change in cabin pressure during climb and descent do not pose a problem for most customers. However, if you suffer from upper respiratory or sinus infections, obstructive pulmonary diseases, anaemia or certain cardiovascular conditions, you could experience discomfort. Children and infants might experience some discomfort because of pressure changes during climb and descent.
If you are suffering from nasal congestion or allergies, use nasal sprays, decongestants and antihistamines 30 minutes prior to descent to help open up your ear and sinus passages.
If you have a cold, flu or hay fever, your sinuses could be impaired. Swollen membranes in your nose could block your Eustachian tubes - the tiny channels between your nasal passages and your middle ear chamber. This can cause discomfort during changes in cabin pressure, particularly during descent. Recommendations:

If you have a pre-existing medical condition that warrants supplemental oxygen, you can order it from us. Please give at least seven days' notice before travelling.

To 'clear' your ears, try swallowing or yawning. These actions help open your Eustachian tubes, equalising pressure between your middle ear chamber and your throat.

When flying with an infant, feed or give your baby a dummy during descent. Sucking and swallowing will help infants equalise the pressure in their ears.

Jet Lag
The main cause of jet lag is travelling to a different time zone without giving the body a chance to adjust to new night and day cycles. In general, the more time zones you cross during your flight, the more your biological clock is disturbed. The common symptoms are sleeplessness, tiredness, and loss of appetite or appetite at odd hours.

Page 18

Australian College QED

Domestic Fares & Ticketing

Schedules Guide & Tariff

To try to minimise the effects of jet lag, we recommend that you:

Get a good night's rest before your flight.

If possible, give yourself a day or two to adjust to the new time zone after arrival.

Fly direct to minimise flight time, if you can. This allows you to relax more upon arrival.

Try some light exercise, go for a brisk walk, or do some reading, if you can't sleep after arrival at your destination. It generally takes the body's biological clock approximately one day to adjust per time zone crossed.

Motion Sickness
This ailment is caused by a conflict between the body's sense of vision and its sense of equilibrium.
Air turbulence increases its likelihood because it can cause movement of the fluid in the vestibular apparatus of the inner ear. If you have good visual cues (keeping your eyes fixed on a non-moving object), motion sickness is less likely to occur.
Recommendations:

When the weather is clear and you can see the ground, sea or horizon, you are less susceptible to motion sickness.

You can buy over the counter medications but we recommend that you consult your doctor about the appropriate medications

Smoking regulations
Australian Government regulations prohibit smoking on all Qantas flights regardless of their destination. Prohibited items
For the safety of the aircraft and passengers the following items are not permitted in checked baggage or carry-on baggage.
Compressed gases such as flammable, non-flammable or poisonous;

Explosives such as munitions, flare or fireworks;

Toxic substances such as insecticides, weedkiller, arsenic and cyanides;

Radioactive materials such as beta scopes, radio pharmaceuticals;

Airport Terminals
Qantas flights operate from three passenger terminals in major airports in Australia. Qantas flight numbers determine which terminal in use.
Flight numbers QF1 to QF399 will operate from Qantas International Terminal
Flight numbers QF400 upto QF1599 will operate from Terminal 3 (formally Qantas Domestic
Terminal)
Flight numbers QF1600 will operate from terminal 2 (formally Ansett Terminal)
Conditions of Contract
Qantas carries passengers on flights (or other modes of transport where indicated) in Australia, New
Zealand and elsewhere on contracts that consist of:

these Terms and Conditions;

Qantas General Conditions of Carriage (Passenger and Baggage), available on request, and any applicable tariffs filed by Qantas with regulatory bodies;

International conventions and Australian and New Zealand laws; and

Qantas' oral or written directions to passengers.

Australian College QED

Page 21

Domestic Fares & Ticketing

In the event of any inconsistency between these Terms and Conditions and the General Conditions of
Carriage, the General Conditions of Carriage shall prevail.
a) If Qantas issues a ticket or boarding pass for another carrier's flight, it does so only as an agent for that carrier.
b) Unless otherwise stated, a ticket is valid for one year from the issue date.
c) Qantas will use efforts to carry you and your baggage reasonably in accordance with the date and time of the flight(s) specified, but does not guarantee it will be able to do so. Schedules may change without notice.
d) You must: o comply with all applicable government travel requirements, including obtaining visas to enter the countries to which you are travelling; and

o

check in by the required check-in time.

e) The contract between you and Qantas, including any exclusion or limitation of liability, applies to benefit: o Qantas' employees, agents and representatives;

o

all other carriers used by Qantas to carry you; and

o

those other carriers' employees, agents and representatives, and Qantas hold that benefit on trust for them, and can, if requested by them, enforce it on their behalf.

f) If your checked baggage on an international Qantas flight has been lost or damaged, you must notify Qantas in writing within 7 days and in the case of delay, within 21 days of delivery. If a whole item of your checked baggage on a domestic Qantas flight has been lost or destroyed, you must notify Qantas in writing within 21 days, or if part only of an item has been damaged, lost or destroyed, within 3 days.
g) International Notice—Limitation of Liability o o

Qantas will not rely on the limitation in Article 22 (1) of the Warsaw Convention or the Warsaw Convention as amended at The Hague for any claim for recoverable compensatory damages arising under Article 17 of that Convention.

o

Qantas will not rely on any defence under Article 20 (1) of the Convention for that part of any claim for recoverable compensatory damages arising under Article 17 of the Convention that does not exceed 100,000 Special Drawing Rights. Otherwise
Qantas will rely on all other defences under the Convention.

o

In addition, in cases of death or bodily injury, if required by law, Qantas will make advance payments to the person entitled to compensation, if required to meet immediate economic needs, in proportion to the hardship suffered.

o

Page 22

If your trip has a destination or stop in another country other than the one from which you depart, a treaty known as the Warsaw Convention may govern the liability of all airlines involved in your trip and may limit the amount of damages that can be recovered for your death or injury. These limits can be as low as
US$10,000. However, many airlines have voluntarily agreed to waive those limits
(in whole or in part).

Liability for loss, delay or damage to baggage is limited to about US$20 per kilo for checked baggage and US$400 per passenger for unchecked baggage. For travel pursuant to a contract of carriage providing for travel wholly between United States points, such liability is limited to a maximum of US$2,500 per passenger.

h) Domestic Notice—Limitation of Liability o Carriage wholly within Australia which is not international carriage as defined by the Warsaw Convention, is subject to the provisions of the Civil Aviation (Carriers'
Liability) Act 1959 as amended or complementary State legislation. Qantas' liability in respect of baggage is limited to A$1,600 per passenger (for checked baggage), and
A$160 per passenger (for cabin baggage).

i) Seating
Qantas does not guarantee you any, or any particular, seat even if your reservation is confirmed. You must accept any seat allotted on the flight even if this involves a downgrade, or wait until the next flight on which a seat is available in the class of service paid for.
j) Overbooking Notice
There is a chance a seat will not be available on a flight even if your reservation is confirmed.
This is due to the common practice in the airline industry of overbooking. Qantas' policy on overbooking is available at Qantas international airport ticket counters and boarding gates. If an international flight from USA is overbooked, no-one will be denied a seat until Qantas calls for volunteers to give up their reservations in exchange for a payment of Qantas' choosing. If there are not enough volunteers Qantas will deny boarding to reservation holders in accordance with its policy. People involuntarily denied boarding may apply for compensation in accordance with that policy.
k) Government & Other Taxes and Charges
Travel Within Australia and Internationally—the price of your ticket may include significant amounts of taxes, charges and fees imposed on air transport by governments, authorities and airport operators (in the fare, e.g. Goods and Services Tax, or shown separately as a
TAX/FEE/CHARGE). You may also be required to pay additional taxes, fees or charges not marked on your ticket..
l) Insurance
Personal and baggage insurance is recommended. Details may be obtained from Qantas, or your travel agent.
m) Searches
Qantas, government or airport officers may require you to submit to clothing and body searches, require you to submit your baggage to searches or inspections, and search or inspect your baggage with or without you.
n) Right to Refuse Carriage
Qantas reserves the right to refuse carriage to any person who seeks to travel in violation of applicable law, tariffs or the General Conditions of Carriage, or is otherwise in breach of these
Terms and Conditions, or under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or it is necessary for the safety or comfort of other passengers or for the protection of property.
o) Smoking
Smoking is not permitted on any Qantas or QantasLink aircraft.
p) Reservation Information
There is no need to reconfirm your travel details. To contact Qantas for other travel arrangements please call the following:
q) Dangerous Goods o Dangerous goods fall into the following categories:

o

Corrosives (acids, alkalis, wet cell batteries, mercury and articles containing mercury). o

Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a Federal Government tax applicable on certain types of travel arrangements. Not all domestic airfares are subject to G. S. T.-exemptions apply to domestic airfares when connected to international travel, otherwise the tax is applicable.
G. S. T. is to be applied to the sale of air tickets as follows:
a.

If the domestic air travel is issued on the same ticket as the international fare from Australia, tax exemption applies to all journey types, by any combination of airfares

b.

If the domestic travel is issued on a separate ticket to that issued for international travel then:
(i) When travel originates in Australia
Provided the domestic ticket is issued before the commencement of the international journey from Australia and is cross-referenced to the international air ticket, tax exemption will extend to any continuous combination of domestic airfares to the Australian gateway city from which the passenger departs Australia, and from the Australian gateway city to which the passenger returns
(ii) Provided the domestic ticket is purchased from a sales office of an airline or airline’s agent, tax exemption will extend to all domestic airfares, which form part of a journey within
Australia

DOMESTIC TARIFF

Introduction
The following Domestic Airfares & Ticketing Tariff contains fare levels applicable to Qantas Airways and subsidiary airlines.
Fare notes
1.

Domestic flights by Qantas Airways within Australia offer Business Class (J) and Economy Class
(Y).

2.

Fare levels are “multi-directional” unless otherwise indicated, this means that the fare from
Sydney to PERTH is the same as from PERTH to Sydney.

3.

Numeric route codes are shown adjacent to the applicable fare level. Route decodes are shown on page. 4.

One-way fares are shown with the code (OW), these may be doubled to calculate a return fare.

5.

Domestic fares do not allow stopovers at intermediate points. A stopover is defined as a break of journey where the next flight is not scheduled to depart on the same calendar day.

6.

Transfers between flights of the same airline (online) are permitted providing the connection occurs on the same calendar day.

Self

...a person who is self-aware is one who has a deep understanding of his emotions, strengths, weaknesses, needs, and drives. Atwater & Yammarino (1992) states that self-awareness stems from the ability of combining the assessment of the evaluation of the self by others together with one’s self-evaluation. In another words, self-perception as compared to what is perceived by others. On the other hand, Mayor & Salovey (1995) suggest that self-awareness is to be conscious of one’s mood and thoughts about that mood. Self-awareness helps in elevating effectiveness, it roots and fosters the virtue of leadership. All leadership begins with self-leadership and self-leadership begins with knowing oneself. By definition, management is one individual achieving results through others. As suggested by Goleman (2011), self-aware people are self-confident people with a strong understanding of what they are capable of and what they are not. Self-awareness generates the kind of confidence to take the required action when new opportunities are presented. With self-awareness, we become more understanding of others and it is this understanding that leads to effective communication. Being self-aware requires reflection by oneself or with others, in both good and bad times. A better self-understanding will allow one to have more control and intuitive decision-making capability, have the flexibility and ability to effectively meet and handle challenges, have better communication and interpersonal...

Self-Schema

...Self-Schema: A self-schema is a belief or idea about oneself that leads to a bias that is self-perpetuating. It could consist of a particular role in society or a generalization based on social sterotypes. If a mother tells her daughter she looks like a tom boy, her daughter may react by choosing activities that she imagines a tom boy would do. Conversely, if the mother tells her she looks like a princess, her daughter might choose activities thought to be more feminine. The self-schema becomes self-perpetuating when the individual chooses activities based on expectations instead of desires. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The term schematic describes having a particular schema for a particular dimension. For instance, a person in a rock band at night would have a "rocker" schema. However, during the day, if he works as a salesperson, he would have a "salesperson" schema during that period of time. Schemas vary according to cultural background and other environmental factors. Once people have developed a schema about themselves, there is a strong tendency for that schema to be maintained by a bias in what they attend to, in what they remember, and in what they are prepared to accept as true about themselves. In other words, the self-schema becomes self-perpetuating. The self-schema is then stored in long-term memory, and both facilitates and biases the processing of personally relevant information. The term aschematic means...

Self Concept and Self Discipline

...SELF CONCEPT The self-concept is the accumulation of knowledge about the self, such as beliefs regarding personality traits, physical characteristics, abilities, values, goals, and roles. Beginning in infancy, children acquire and organize information about themselves as a way to enable them to understand the relation between the self and their social world. This developmental process is a direct consequence of children's emerging cognitive skills and their social relationships with both family and peers. During early childhood, children's self-concepts are less differentiated and are centered on concrete characteristics, such as physical attributes, possessions, and skills. During middle childhood, the self-concept becomes more integrated and differentiated as the child engages in social comparison and more clearly perceives the self as consisting of internal, psychological characteristics. Throughout later childhood and adolescence, the self-concept becomes more abstract, complex, and hierarchically organized into cognitive mental representations or self-schemas, which direct the processing of self-relevant information. Understanding your self-concept It is the understanding and knowledge you have of your own existence. It is how you see yourself in relation to others and to your surroundings. To have a positive or healthy self-concept you must:  Know yourself  Love yourself  Be True to yourself In order to meet the challenges of today's complicated...

The Self

...The Self Judith James University of Phoenix Social Psychology/PSYCH 555 Glorivy Arce April 10, 2014 The Self “Identity is part of drama to me. Who am I, why am I behaving this way, and am I aware of it?”- American writer, Matthew Weiner (Brainy Quotes, n.d.). Most people are like Weiner, we ask ourselves “Who am I?” and our reply will usually be a description of our outside self, our personality traits, and the role we have in life. “The term self-concept is a general term used to refer to how someone thinks about or perceives themselves” (McLeod, 2008, para. 1). However, there is more to the concept of self, and how an individual develops the concept of self. Included in the aspect of self is the relationship between the person and his or her emotions, which affect a person’s self-esteem. How one presents themselves to others involves the relationship between the self and his or her behavior; a certain degree of a person’s self-presentation will also affect one’s concept of self. “A conceptual definition of the self includes the body, the inner self, the interpersonal self, and the collective self” (Fiske, 2010, p. 185). While the concept of self develops from the time of birth, it is a slow process simply because as a child one is concerned about how he or she fits into the world around them. A child will develop self through learning what he or she likes, or does not like; such as enjoying being outside, or preferring to be naked instead of wearing...

The Self

...The Self Keepa Secret PSY/400 February 6, 2011 Ingrid Lewis The Self Philosophers and Psychologists have been debating and pondering the question of what exactly constitutes the self for many years. Considering that there are certain concepts and aspects that makes up what psychologists refer to as “the self” in the social world is definitely worth taking a look at since defining what exactly it is can help us understand our roles in society and move us a little closer to understanding our motivations, desires, and why we do the things we do. In this essay we will examine the concept of self in the social world and discuss how I apply the self to my own life. In addition we will also examine the roles of self concept, self-esteem and self efficacy, and how these concepts build a framework for my conception of self. I will also describe two social experiences that affected my personal development in an effort to help the reader understand why I am who I am today. Self in the Social world The concept of the self cannot be found in any book or dictionary. It is not something any one person can concretely define. It cannot be explained in third person because the self is an individual topic. I can’t decide for another person what the definition of self is for them, especially as it relates to their experiences in the social world. I can only decide what self is and how it manifests itself in my own life based on my own experiences, thoughts, feelings and...

Self and Self Esteem

...Increased access and popularity of the internet, especially social sites like Facebook and Twitter make escaping ostracism almost impossible. In the article “Social Exclusion causes Self-Defeating Behavior” by Jean Twenge, Kathleen Catanese and Roy Baumeister, they explain that out of ostracism comes a natural instinct to try to turn a negative feeling into a positive feeling for the victim. Unfortunately, in an attempt to produce a positive outcome, negative ones most often happen. A good example in our society is in the latest media coverage of homosexual males who have committed suicide as a result of extreme ostracism and self-defeating behaviors that arise from feeling alone. I would argue that today’s society is much more accepting and supportive of those who are homosexual, however, although overall society accepts these individuals, there are still many who are not accepting and go out of their way to make people feel “different” and ‘wrong”. In the case of the student at Rutgers University, it was found that not only was he feeling ostracized in school and online, his parents were not accepting or supportive when he shared his sexual orientation with them. Having parents who are not supportive is detrimental to these individuals psychological well-being, and makes them more susceptible to self-defeating behaviors then those who are in a loving, supportive family. For this student, not only was he feeling disapproval from his family, he was embarrassed and felt...

...The Self- Actualization higher order need of Maslow’s Theory involves the need to fulfill oneself, to grow and use one’s abilities to the fullest and most creative extent. In the case of RUDACON’s employees, the needs to fulfill oneself and to grow their skills were not satisfied in their work environment, since the employees wanted to be more productive and to accomplish their goals, however the work overload problem affected their performance, consequently they felt demotivated to push themselves harder to overcome the problem. The second Maslow’s high order need “Esteem”, involves the need of prestige, respect and recognition. RUDACON employees did not feel their work was recognized by the managers and by the supervisor, as result of these feelings, they were demotivated and frustrated with their jobs. It is important that both Maslow’s higher order needs must be fulfilled with the help of managers and executives in order to solve RUDACON’s motivational problem, since this is the first step to help the employees improve their performance and be more productive. Two factors that increased the employees overload problem were the lack of response and communication from the managers. In order to help managers to overcome the communication problem it is important to analyze the Downward communication, According to the textbook “follows the chain of command from top to bottom” and it helps to lower-level personal to be actualize of what thing the higher level is doing, also...

Yet, in an indirect manner, ownership influences how one perceives himself and is conducive to the level at which one’s self-perception exists. Ownership, of both material and nonmaterial objects, has the potential of establishing a sense of belonging that augments self-confidence,...

Self Confidence

...Rather than buying a bunch of cheap clothes, buy half as many select, high quality items. In long run this decreases spending because expensive clothes wear out less easily and stay in style longer than cheap clothes. Buying less also helps reduce the confusion in your closet. WALK FASTER One of the easiest ways to tell how a person feels about himself/herself is to examine him/her walk. Is it slow? tired? painful? Or is it energetic and purposeful? People with confidence, walk quickly. They have places to go, people to see, and important work to do. Even if you aren’t in a hurry, you can increase your self confidence by putting some energy in your step. Walking 25% faster will make to you look and feel more important. GOOD POSTURE Similarly, the way a person carries himself/herself tells a story. People with slumped shoulders and tired movements display a lack of self confidence. They aren’t enthusiastic about what they’re doing and they don’t consider themselves important. By practicing good posture, you’ll automatically feel more confident. Stand up straight, keep your head up, and make eye contact. You’ll make a positive impression on others and instantly feel more alert and empowered. I have brotherly as an element because I have a younger brother who actually turned 14 today who I love very much and we do everything together maybe more than we should. Student is also very high on my list of elements because I like to take pride in my schoolwork, even though sometimes I can get lazy. I also have friendly as an element of myself concept, I don’t have a lot of friends but the circle of friends I do have we are very close almost like brothers. Self Confidence

...English 100 3 December 2013 How to Develop Self Confidence Self-confidence is defined as “the feeling of trust in one’s ability, qualities and judgment. Self-confidence is a very important part of life. Low self-confidence can lead to paralyzing of the brain and the body. When you have low self-confidence it is harder for you to make decisions because you have a lack of trust in yourself. The lack of trust in yourself can lead to failures or inability to achieve success. When we have self-confidence we feel reassured that we are making the right decisions. When you increase your level of confidence you tend to increase your ability to succeed because you are more likely to try something then with low self-confidence. Also people with low self-confidence statistically have been shown to handle situations in a more positive way. Self-confidence has been strongly correlated with the ability to be happy. This is because having self-confidence means that you feel you are capable of doing great things and capable of using your judgment. The ability to build self-confidence can lead to you being happier but also being less anxious about situations. The following are steps to building self confidence. When you accomplish self confidence you believe in your ability to achieve goals and accept who you are. Prepare for the journey Surround yourself with positive influences such as friends and family. The Hegemonic Self Unleashed

...The hegemonic self unleashed Have you ever caught yourself talking with your inner self? I am sure that at some point you asked your inner self a question...and got an answer. Now, how about an actual argument with that pretentious little guy? When that happens, it sometimes seems as if there were more than just two people wanting to have their say and have their voices heard; sometimes you get more than one opinion, and quite surprisingly, they all sound alike. Many of us are so used to talking to ourselves (especially in this era of extreme individualism and egocentrism) that we often overlook the fact that what happens inside our heads is not a one-sided conversation, amonologue, but rather, some sort of deliberation, with many selves debating―or should we say clashing. There is no place more undemocratic than the cluster inour minds. Perhaps, it would be more appropriate to talk about a confederation of selves. As in any confederation, there is a struggle for power, for supremacy. Some get their heads bashed, some manage to climb up near the top, and one―just one―gets to be the hegemonic self; the self you call “your-self”. In other words, there is a whole universe inside us, albeit a rather chaotic one, governed by a few, fragile, laws. More important, however, is the idea that all those pugnacious selves were orbiting around you from the beginning. Sometimes there is relative harmony, and other times the collision looks like an encounter between matter and antimatter...

Identification of One's Self

...Identification of One’s Self In the opening lines of Fred Schepisi’s 1993 film, “Six Degrees of Separation”, Ouisa Kittredge states, “I read somewhere that everybody on this planet is separated by only six other people. Six degrees of separation.” This refers to the theory that each person is separated from another person by no more than six people. This theory will turn out to play a major role in the plot of the film. The entertaining and flashy movie was filled with “chaos and control”, which is respectively referred to Wassily Kandinsky’s paintings, “Black Lines” and “Several Circles”. The chaos begins with Ouisa and Flan Kittredge, two New York City socialites, who live in a lavish Fifth Avenue apartment, welcome a young African American man named Paul, who claims to be Sidney Poitier’s son, into their apartment. Little do the Kittredges know, Paul will eventually contribute to the theory that everyone is separated by only six other people. New, unusual experiences can instantly change one’s self and in return, prompt the person of re-evaluating their life and their identity that separated them from all other’s. When the ambiance-filled movie begins, the audience instantly sees the production design that gave the film a sophisticated look. The Kittredges are soaked up in their social life and do not realize that their life that many dream of could change in an instant. The couple is getting ready to have a business dinner with Geoffrey Miller, a South African...

Self Concept

...In Carl Rogers’ view regarding personality development is the idea of self-concept. According to Rogers, self-concept is the most vital character of personality. Self-concept is defined as "the organized, consistent set of perceptions and beliefs about oneself". It includes all the thoughts, feelings and beliefs. The self is who we really are as a person.  It is our inner personality that is influenced by our life experiences and our interpretations from those experiences. The two main sources that affect and influence our self-concept are experiences we had from our childhood and the evaluation of other people. Rogers’ humanistic approach states that the self-concept has three components: 1. Self-Worth/Self-Esteem: This is what and how we think about ourselves. Self-worth is developed in the early stages of childhood and formed based on the interaction the child has had with his or her parents. Self-worth does not necessarily have to reflect reality. 2. Self-Image: This is how we see ourselves and includes our perception of our body image and inner personality. Self-image has a profound effect on how a person thinks, how he or she feels, and how to behave in this world. 3. Ideal self – This is the idealized version of ourselves created out of what we have learned from our life experiences, the demands of society, and role models whom we admire. It consists of our goals and ambitions in life, and is always changing. Congruence and Incongruence Rogers believed...

The Self Paper

...The Self Paper Trace Riley PSYCH/555 November 26, 2012 Gary McCullough, Ph.D. The Self Paper The concept of self is a multi-dimensional construct that refers to an individual’s self-perspective of how one represents his or her self. Self-concept develops from an individual’s viewpoint in relation to characteristics, such as racial identity or gender roles. For example, if a young boy develops in a family who favors baseball, the likelihood of the son playing baseball is strong because he may acquire the same likeliness for baseball as his peers. There are multiple factors that contribute to self concept and how it develops. Emotions play a significant role in how self-esteem develops and how self and behavior affects individual self-presentation. The purpose of this paper is to examine the concept of self, how self-concept develops, the relationship between self and emotion and how self and behavior affect self-presentation. Samuel Butler believed that a man’s work and his talent’s is simply a portrait of themselves. One may ask “Does self concept develop from individual behavior or the characteristics one may represent?” Self Concept A person develops self concept from a glossary in which he or she has lived. For instance, as mentioned above, the young son of a baseball player may distinguish a personality of a baseball fan or athlete because of his upbringing. Characteristics define an individual’s self-concept for example, his or her self-concept on cultures, races...
