As my Senior Capstone Service Project, I have chosen to volunteer at Integris Southwest Medical Center. The reason for which I choose the Integris Southwest Medical Center as the place where I will complete my service project is that I strongly believe in their mission statement, “To improve the health of the people and communities we serve.” At many points in my life, I myself have been a patient at Integris, each time volunteers and staff have made the experience as pleasant as possible. I want to aid both the patients and their visitors going through physically and emotionally challenging times, by being helpful and understanding. Through my actions I hope to provide positivity and compassion. I hope to gain a new perspective through the eyes of both the patients and the caregivers. I believe that there is a lot for me to learn and I am eager to give back to my community.

By being part of the team of volunteers that enhances the service provided by the staff, I hope to bring support and assist the patients to the best of my abilities. Volunteering in my own community means that I can give back to my own neighbors. As a volunteer to I hope to impact the way people view hospitals, many people dread walking through the doors and fear what might be to come, but hospitals should be a place where one feels welcomed and safe. I want to make the patients and visitors feel comfortable and secure when they walk through the doors. Integris Southwest Medical Center is also in need of Spanish speaking volunteers, with my knowledge I will be able to make someone’s hospital experience less confusing and allow them to receive the best possible

Partnering with Industry for a Computer Science

...Engineering Capstone Senior Design Course Ken Christensen[1], Dewey Rundus1, and Zornitza Genova Prodanoff1 1 2 Abstract A capstone design course is an important component of the senior year curriculum for engineering students and plays a key role in achieving departmental ABET EC 2000 outcomes. In the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of South Florida, we have partnered with industry to have students work in teams on industry-contributed “real world” projects. Industry partners contribute projects, mentor students, give a guest lecture, and provide the opportunity for students to present their project at the industry site. Students work on projects in teams and are given milestones and schedules to follow. The milestones include formal requirements, specifications and design, prototype demonstration, test plan, and final project delivery and presentation. The final presentation includes a project demonstration, user documentation, press release, and a poster that is permanently displayed in the department seminar room. The course includes formal lecture and reading assignments on the development process. A midterm exam covers these topics. Soft topics include discussions on working in teams. Our industry partners stress the importance of students being able to work well in teams. We hope that our experience can serve as a guide for other engineering departments considering industry partnering for their capstone design courses...

Teen Employment Capstone

...I have selected the topic of teen employment for my Capstone project. In this essay I will present different aspects of employment such as the valuable skills and behavioral traits a teen can develop. I desire to educate my peers on the balance between work, academics, school activities, and the life skills that are developed. My guiding question for my Capstone project is “Does teen employment prepare students for later success in life?” My main research data base that I used is the Middle Tennessee State University library page. Throughout my research, I have found information on what young people gain from having a job at an early age and how it can affect their later career. One method I have for this research project is to survey adults 30+ years old around the community and also Blackman High School seniors who began working as a teenager. In this research paper I will present my results from this survey. At the end of this Capstone process, I hope to be able to define both the positives and negative findings on teen employment. HMA Personal Statement

...philosophies, how to analyze many subjects, and how to act as a student. I can’t express my gratitude for what they have taught me. Also Mr. Brown, Mrs. Roche, Ms. Edsberg, and Mrs. Hankins have given me so much support in all my activities along with helping me let the world know of my trials for my own growth. I am grateful that I could be brought up to a higher level than I was at when I started at HMA, it has been and will be the most wonderful experience I would face. Tell me about a project you completed at HMA. I have completed a project in which I made a “How-To Video” for my previous English 3P class. I made a video and an information paper about playing the violin properly. It took analyzing my previous experiences playing the violin and how I learned music. I developed a method to teach basics of music theory and violin for certain learning types and described the fundamentals of music. I also researched violin teaching and a few terms for proper presentation. Also, for another final project in English, I made a powerpoint about my life’s journey. I read what was required in the class, analyzed my trials and interviewed my uncle and grandfather to learn wisdom to handle other trials that may come. I also got to look back in my life to fully comprehend myself and how I react and act to certain things. I could relieve the mysteries of myself that I was very confused about. I got to think about my own philosophies and got to improve them. What have you done to promote a club...

...WRITING PROPOSAL INTRODUCTION AND DISCLAIMER This is an altered version of a real Tech Writing project submitted by a student and passed by an Evaluator. There is no guaranty that either the original version or this altered one would pass evaluation if submitted today. Despite our best efforts to provide consistent evaluation across all students and projects, Evaluators are human and are allowed latitude in grading. Additionally, your interpretation of what you see is likely to be different from the interpretations of others; in other words, even if you strictly follow the model of this paper, there is no guarantee of immediate success with your project. The original work was altered to mask the identity of its author and the various commercial products mentioned. References and their citations were also masked because no effort was made to determine whether other changes affected their validity. The inserted Comments indicate only that all required TaskStream sections are present, not that they are correctly completed for all types of projects. The best that can be said about the original work is that an evaluator found the work submitted to be sufficient to the task. Viewing this sample may or may not produce a similar result for you. Bottom line: You are the author of your work. We hope this sample helps to dissipate some of the uncertainty that surrounds the Capstone Project, but it cannot guaranty a trouble-free process. ...Program Guidebook Master of Science, Information Security and Assurance The Master of Science in Information Security and Assurance is a competency-based degree program that encompasses the main security domains of knowledge developed following strict guidelines for information security and assurance education prescribed by the National Security Agency. Understanding the Competency-Based Approach Practically speaking, what does it mean when we say that WGU’s programs are competency-based? Unlike traditional universities, WGU does not award degrees based on credit hours or on a certain set of required courses. Instead, you will earn your degree by demonstrating your skills, knowledge, and understanding of important concepts through a series of carefully designed courses. Progress through your degree program is governed not by classes but by satisfactory completion of the required courses that demonstrate your mastery of the competencies. Of course, you will need to engage in learning experiences as you brush up on competencies or develop knowledge and skills in areas in which you may be weak. For this learning and development, WGU has a rich array of learning resources in which you may engage under the direction of your student mentor. You will work closely with your mentor to schedule your program for completing the courses. You will also work closely with additional faculty members as you proceed through courses of study that are designed to lead you through...
