Abstract This paper describes the different high speed internet providers in my community, such as DSL and Cable services.

1. Identify the Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) and cable modem services reference in this assignment and the region(s) in which they operate.

Both Comcast cable, which provides internet via a cable modem, and Verizon DSL, which provides service via a telephone line, service Chesterfield, Virginia. (Verizon) (Comcast) DSL requires the user to connect to the internet via a modem, which converts digital data to an analog signal so it is able to transverse across phone lines. This service provides a high speed link to the internet. (Stallings) Verizon, at the present time is slowly moving away from DSL and into FiOS (Fiber Optic Service), which is being marketed as a much faster service than the traditional DSL; this is so that Verizon can compete with cable. Verizon has stated that they are also going to be raising the rates for existing DSL users to force them into upgrading to FiOS. Comcast cable also provides a high speed cable internet service which requires a modem as well, but instead of working over telephone wires it works over the cable wires that provide television service. Both Verizon and Comcast offer Wi-Fi services, which means a customer, can connect to the internet from anywhere, and are not just limited to the home. Wi-Fi uses radio technology to provide secure wireless connectivity and Wi-Fi is used in many coffee shops and airports, it is also presently being implemented in many of the larger cities. (Wifi)

2. Create a diagram of the DSL and Cable modem connections to your ISP, cable organization and telecom to your home router using Visio or its open source alternative software. Note: The graphically depicted solution is not included in the required page length.

3. Compare and evaluate the speeds of DSL and Cable modem that you researched.

Verizon and Comcast are two of the largest Internet service providers in my area. Both Verizon and Comcast provide high-speed internet access. (Steele) According to Verizon’s website DSL service plans are as follows: Verizon | | Wi-Fi | Download | Upload | Yes/No | .5 to 1 Mbps | 384k | No | 1 to 3 Mbps | 384k | Yes | 3.1 to 7 Mbps | 768k | Yes | 7.1 to 15 Mbps | 768k | Yes |
Comcast’s cable service plans are listed below: Comcast | | Wi-Fi | Download | Upload | Yes/No | 20 Mbps | 5 Mbps | Yes | 50 Mbps | 10 Mbps | Yes | 105 Mbps | 20 Mbps | Yes |
When comparing connection speeds, Comcast provides much faster speeds than DSL. Although they advertise unlimited internet access, both service providers have data caps, which both companies started imposing the limits after they noticed high end users who were using a large amount of bandwidth. Most day-to-day users will not see this data cap, which in essence starts at 300GB with most internet providers. (Strohmeyer, 2013) Comcast’s data speeds would attract more users, especially those who enjoy using the internet to watch television, movies or play video games online which are bandwidth intensive, such as World of Warcraft.

4. Compare and evaluate the cost of DSL and cable modem that you researched.
This section compares both Verizon DSL and Comcast cable modem in relation to speed. Verizon, with a two-year contract, has plans ranging from $49.99 to $69.99 a month for the first year then the plans rise by $20 a month the second year. DSL also has another hidden fee, and that is for the cost of the phone service, since a phone line is needed for DSL, which is an additional 44.99 a month. (Verizon) Comcast has internet service for $29.99, $59.99 and $89.99 per month for the first year then goes up approximately $25 a month after that. (Comcast) When comparing the price with the speed offered by the ISP, Comcast offers more and is less expensive than DSL, which appeals more to the customer base. FiOS is now offered by Verizon, which is replacing DSL so that the company can compete with the higher speeds offered by cable. (High Speed Geek) 5. Compare and evaluate the reliability of DSL and Cable modem that you researched.

This section compares both Verizon DSL and Comcast cable in relation to cost and service. Cable modems also have constant speeds, whereas DSL depends upon the number of users in the area on the internet. (Admin) (Steele) DSL speed is also impacted by the distance between the customer and the provider, cable is not as much affected by this. (Taetsch) Another advantage to using cable over DSL is cable runs underground; phone service, on many occasions has issues when the weather is bad, customers can have intermittent service or go down entirely. Hurricane Sandy is an example of this; not only did users lost service during the storm, Verizon then informed all of its DSL customers that were impacted that they would not be restoring DSL service to the area, which alienated many of their customers. (High Speed Geek) According to recent customer reviews neither Comcast nor Verizon rated favorably with customer and technical support. Verizon did rate a little more favorably than Comcast but not enough to keep the customer base since cable provides a much faster and more reliable service. (Admin, 2013) (Judis, 2009)

6. Recommend DSL or cable modem based on the previous comparison and evaluation of services available closest to your region. Explain your recommendation
Based on the research above, cable would be the recommended choice. Costwise, cable is less expensive than DSL. (High Speed Geek) Cable has much faster upload and download speeds than DSL. (Admin) DSL’s fastest download speed is 15Mbps and 768 for upload, compared to cables slowest speeds, which are 20Mbps download and 5Mbps upload. (Verizon) (Comcast) Cable is not reliant on distance; the further you live from the central office the lower the data rate would be using DSL which is why the speeds vary. (Minnesota) DSL speed also vary depending upon how many users and what they are doing which with cable is not a problem, definitely why cable is the recommended choice. Cable does not rely on the weather for service, since cable runs underground and DSL uses existing phone lines. (Taetsch) Consumers gravitate more toward high-speed cable since cable provided more for less, basically Comcast is less expensive and faster than traditional cable. Also, cable is already in many homes, and even if someone did not have cable television, they could still use cable for the internet; they do not need to order both television and internet services, whereas with DSL you have to have phone service inside your home for DSL to work. Another reason consumers are moving toward cable has to do with the onset of mobile phones, customers to save money were disconnecting their home phone service. (High Speed Geek) With the onset of mobile technology and the faster connection speeds in the future home, wired internet connections may become a thing of the past.

A study focuses on the refinement of a scale for measuring service loyalty dimensions and the relationships between dimensions of service quality and these service loyalty dimensions. The results of an empirical study of a large sample of customers from four different service industries suggest that four dimensions of service loyalty can be identified: purchase intentions, word-of-mouth...

Goods and Services

...Goods and Services In economics, need and want are either goods or services and which are sometimes called a commodity. People claims that goods are the things can touch such as pens, longyis, rice, book, as soon on and services are thing that people do for you, or you do for other people, which are the things you cannot touch such as education or healthcare. In economics, a good is a material that satisfies human wants and provides utility, for example, to a consumer making a purchase and a common distinction is made between 'goods' that are tangible property. Moreover, when people want to produce one goods, they need basically, 1. The name. 2. What it look like-pictures. 3. What it does. 4. The cost and why people should buy it. For example, if people produce shoes and the name of the shoes is Addias, which designs is very wonderful and people can use every season even though summer, it costs is 60$ and that brand is very grantee, therefore they should buy that kind of goods. Services are as important as goods and when one goods produce, goods is the first step and the second step is service, but service are things that people cannot touch. For example, when people go to the hospital or clinic, doctor or a medic examines does tests or indicate some medicine. In addition, when people buy a cup of tea in a teashop, they are not only buying tea, water and milk (goods). people are paying for the services of sitting in the teashop, of someone making the tea, bringing it to......

Services in India

...Are Indians to blame for the poor quality of services that they get compared to their western counterparts? Eating in buffet style dinners at any marriage hall in India would give you enough reason as to why the services provided here are not as good what our western counterparts get. There will be no such thing as a queue and people returning for a second helping would barge in with their plates wherever they find space. Finally you’ll find them using a different plate for each dish they try as if paying for their gift entitles them with all such liberties. This explains why most marriages nowadays are doing away with buffet style dinner services. Unlike a manufactured product, a service involves a lot of consumer interaction and for any service to prosper the quality of consumer participation must be good. We as Indians have a long way to go when it comes to improving the quality of consumer participation because the term itself involves the change in attitude of millions of people in India. I am not trying to be judgmental but this is how we are and most of the Indians have not warmed up to such quality. We try to extract the maximum out of any service without sparing a thought for the future consumers of the same service and that is the first fundamental change we need to incorporate in our attitude. People are stealing/taking away bulbs from the night-lamps in trains. I have wondered how many tumblers from a drinking water dispenser were stolen before they started......

...1. I remembered my favorite story about my best customer service experience ever. Sometime in 2001, I was traveling from Chicago to Boston on the Airlines shuttle to my scheduled hotel. But that day was unlucky for the bad weather result in the flight delay. Anyway... my shuttle gets delayed several hours at Boston (insert sarcastic look of shock) and I end up getting into Boston around 1:00am. Then the fun really started, because "the Big Dig" was still in full shovel and even at that time of night/morning, it took nearly 2 hours to get from the airport to the hotel. Brutal. So, I get to the hotel at 3:00am, needing to be ready to deliver my preso at 8:00am. Ideal set up for a great presentation? Not likely. So, I drag myself into the Hotel and the gentleman at the counter looks at me and says, "Welcome to the Boston. You look exhausted!" So I explain the cause of my pain as he continues the check in process, not thinking about much of anything except, get me to a bed asap! Finally, he looks up, hands me a key and says, "I'm sorry you had a rough night, enjoy your room." I grab the key, head to my room and open the door to the biggest hotel suite I've ever seen in my life. I was so tired; I didn't even realize I was headed to the top floor of the hotel and into the Presidential Suite! Brilliantly lit, beautifully furnished, fresh flowers, the whole shabang. 2. I was only in the room for maybe 4-5 hours, but more importantly, I'll never forget the treatment I received......

Through these physical environments that have been designed to ensure that the customer could at least feel the service. Thus, this created the experience than never been offered by other Service Company. If the servicescape was designed very well it might give the customer the best experience that indirectly will created commitment and loyalty from the customer to the organization. In the other note, customer experience also could help the organization in designing their serviscape. This could be more successful ways because from the feedback of customer experience that the organization gets, the organization knows what is it that they missed or any important element that they need to improve in designing their servicescape. As for our refered company, DHL can use their customer experience in designing their servicescape. For example, the packaging of their brand in every product that they delivered helps providing the customer the experience towards theirs services as it shows the organization image and convey an external image of what is inside to customers. But while the term is used frequently in the service design and new service development literature, surprisingly little has been written about the service concept itself and its important role in service design and development. The service concept defines the how and the what of service design, and helps mediate between customer needs and an organization’s strategic intent. We define the service concept and describe how it can be used to enhance a variety of service design processes. As illustrations here, we apply the service concept to service design planning and service recovery design processes. Employing the service concept as an important driver of service design decisions raises a number of interesting questions for research which are discussed here. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Customer Service

...I believe that providing good customer service is connecting with your customers where they are, being efficient in doing that, and having a full view of all what they need to do. In providing the best customer service, an employee needs to be well aware that he/she is accountable for his/her actions and decisions, and he/she can neither pass the buck nor pass the blame to someone else. This leads to an important quality of productivity which plays an important role in customer service. Productivity' is about how well an employee combine resources to produce the best customer service. It is important to have this skill because it benefits the customer, the company and the work force. Productivity in the workplace often translates into good customer service and interaction, which basically is the key to satisfying customers. This can be used to gain the loyalty of consumers and meet their needs. When a customer is loyal they will market the business to others for you, through word of mouth, which is a marketing advantage coming out of high levels of productivity. The employees themselves are an investment by the firm and like any investment, they should yield a healthy or worthwhile return to the company. Therefore, when employees are highly productive the company achieves its goals of investing in them in the first place. Next, when a firm is highly productive it becomes successful eventually, and because of this, incentives are bound to be made available to the employees.......
