Adam’s diary begins with his encounter with Eve, that irritating, way too talkative creature with a tendency to name things, following him around. Eve is changing the sights of Eden, that she alas baptized “Niagara falls Park”(Twain, 365). After the fall, Adam eventually learns to appreciate the company of his female companion and ends up falling for her, saying “wherever she was, there was Eden” (377). Eve’s diary recounts her discovery of Eden and Adam, and her growing love for him. Human love, replacing that of God, appears as a feeling that does not need an Eden, a feeling that is in itself a redemption. Throughout the excerpts, an image of the two characters can be shaped but also an image of their respective genders’ roles, behaviors and understanding of love… To what extent does the portrayal of Eve in the extracts apply to the expectations for women today? The first point that we will be looking at is how addition can be found in the Bible. I like to think this animated show has found that balance for its viewers. Family Guy has been under fire by many groups of people over the years for its taste and indecency. Groups from the Parents Television Council to the Venezuelan Government have filed complaints with the FCC regarding the content of episodes and also have banned the series completely from airing in their country. Although I have watched the show for a while I never really thought about what kind of worldview the family has or how it has impacted my own views on family values. In this sitcom it seems to me that the family does try to be good a Christian family and go to church but, they do not succeed in doing so. The family is rude to one another and the baby tries to kill his mother in almost every episode. I do understand that it is made for comedy purposes only I believe that sometimes they tend to overstep the boundaries. I do believe that they try to make the family seem like they would do anything for each other. In one of the episodes the mother tries to cover up for her son because they believed he murdered a man but it turns out he did not. To me that shows although he broke the law she was willing to do anything for him to protect him. I do believe that television shows impact our views on life and our views on family values. After watching this show I realized that it impacted my view on family values negatively. I would not want my family to be dysfunctional like the Griffin family. They make fun of the eldest daughter in many episodes, the second son Chris does horribly in school and both children to not respect their parents. His use of offensive jokes makes for a bad reputation with media sources and celebrities. According to Antonia Peacocke, author of “Family Guy and Freud: Jokes and Their Relation to the Unconscious,” Before she was such a devotee, she was, “adamantly opposed to the program for its particular brand of humor” (300). Antonia Peacocke explores the controversy of the jokes, and gives examples of how the show has been publicly criticized in past years. Family Guy is one of the only shows to be cancelled on multiple occasions because of off-color jokes.
