Staging:
The staging I would use for jumpy is the thrust theatre because it is designed to work for most plays, since jumpy is a play that does not physically address the audience but contains themes that are very relatable to the audience and wants both the actors and audience sharing the same experience this acting space seems most appropriate. The ‘in-the-round’ theatre also could be appropriate but there are problems with sightline and the fact that realistic sets wouldn’t be possible in this type of theatre despite it providing the most intimate experience. Consequently, another reason I would use the thrust theatre is because it is possible to place large items of set such as doorways and staircases which, in jumpy are used a lot of the time for effect and are part of the few stage directions. The set would not interfere with the audience’s view of the action either so this type of staging would be the best one to use.
Costumes:
I decided to put Hillary in a dress because I think this is what she would typically wear to work, the colours are very neutral so they don’t take away too much attention away from the character/ the actress. I would imagine although Hillary is would wear a dress to work, it wouldn’t be too figure hugging but not completely shapeless. I also decided to put her in heels but only small ones, they aren’t particularly fashionable and look more suitable for work.

I decided to put Tilly in a tight blue body-con dress as her character is very different to Hillary, as she is younger I would imagine her to wear a more fitted and more bright dress, I also added more colour with red platform heels, the clash of colour doesn’t draw attention away from her, it enhances her bold character. Also, from researching 2011 fashion trends I found this black quilted clutch bag would be something she would wear out. I wanted to create a stark difference between her and her mums outfit.

For Roland’s outfit I decided to put him in beige plain corduroy trousers that would preferably be baggy and shapeless. I also imagine Roland to be quite large in size so I would put him in a striped polo style shirt and plain brown orthopaedic shoes. This is what I imagined Roland to be dressed in when reading the play so choosing this outfit was relatively easy for me. I imagine Roland to be a very boring man and I wanted his clothing to reflect that.

Set design:
With the idea that there is no budget on what I could do with the set I wanted to take advantage of this but still keep the set relatively simple. My idea for the set would be quite minimal because the play focuses around the characters the most, there is hardly any stage directions involving particular parts of the set apart from the main features such as staircases and doors. I think the audience should be able to use their imagination and have their own interpretation of the play as the themes are very personal. I would want the set to be completely white but with a lot of entrances and exits for the actors so that it does not make the set feel so one dimensional, I want the set to feel busy but not with props and set pieces. I would want only a few pieces of set to be on stage at one time, for example, a chair for Hillary and maybe a small table, but several entrance and exit points for t keep the play moving and less static. When the scene changes I would have different lighting to indicate so, as they play went on the audience would begin to recognise which lighting reflects which scene or certain place in the play. For example when the lighting would always be the same for every scene in the house, and as the scene/ setting changes so does the lighting. This means the audience know that the setting is different without the use of extensive prop use and background sets.

Goal Setting

...Goal Setting Discover What You Want in Life and Achieve It Faster than You Think Possible ¿Que es Goal Setting? Goal setting is the process of writing down specific, measurable, and time-targeted objectives. You figure out want you want, you write your desires down, and then you work towards achieving them. Benefits and Importance of Goal Setting Without goals or a destination, you are like a heat seeking missile with no heat to seek. In addition to letting go of the chains that pull you in every direction, another benefit of goal setting is that it naturally helps you stay away from the circumstances you want to avoid in life. Goals allow you to take control. Instead of living life by chance, you live by choice – you choose your own outcome and select your own course of action. Time Frames Immediate Immediate refers to the next few weeks. These goals refer to the exigencies of day to day life. These are things that you cannot put off for a later time and are typically the easiest to measure, or at the very least, easiest to determine when you have done your best. Intermediate Intermediate goals refer to the next few months. Though you have heard the famous marketing slogan: Where Do You Want to be in … Years, you have not likely heard it phrased as the next few months. Long-term Long-term goals refer to the next few years and are by far the most typical. When self-help gurus preach about goal setting, usually they are preaching about setting long-term...

Goal Setting

...September 26, 2012 Internship Goals Internship Goal Setting While doing an internship it is crucial to have goals that you want to accomplish. Goal setting is an ideal way to learn new skills and knowledge. The skills you learn at an internship will help you prepare for your future career. Setting goals for yourself to achieve in an internship, as well as life, will ultimately dictate who you are, what you are doing, where you are going, and finally where you’ll end. Hopefully where you end is the goal. If not, that’s fine, as long as you worked hard towards achieving the goal and learned from what you did do. The point of setting a goal is to achieve a desired result, and work as hard as you have to, to achieve it. By doing this at your internship you will grow as a person and learn things you usually will not learn in a classroom setting. In my current internship my goal is to learn more about the “Real World.” I am an accounting major and I have spent most of my time learning about accounting from a desk. In the classroom most of what we discuss is conceptual, it is not real, but often what is referenced could be. From my internship I hope to take what I have learned and apply it to a real scenario. I want the “Real World” to be a real thing, not a distant concept. By bringing the “Real World” to real life my goal is to learn new skills and business practices. I want to learn what it is like to be an account from day to day. I want to know if it is...

Best Goal Setting

...Goal setting, is defined in the Cambridge dictionary as, the process of deciding what you want to achieve or what you want someone else to achieve over a particular period of time. Choosing what is right for oneself is an integral part of one’s future, and requires being smart about it. Any endeavor either personal or business needs a compass to navigate to destination. That compass provides an effective and dependable method for determining the direction one wishes to accomplish, and without a written goal, the very much needed effort to put forth might vanish and relinquish the effort needed to count success. Goal setting provides the direction and focus to attain success in the many aspects of one’s life. The best goal setting must cover...

Debunking the Goal Setting Theory

...Debunking the Goal Setting Theory Presented to Trudy Dunson, Instructor MGMT 2125, Performance Management By Andrea Smith 10/13/2014 Often times in the business world, organizations become so fixated on the goals they set, that when they begin to go wrong, an organization will invest more into that goal instead of looking for a different path. Oliver Burkeman’s book, “The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can’t Stand Positive Thinking” devotes a whole chapter to the importance or lack thereof of setting goals. In his book, he tells a story of Chris Kayes who was on the foothills of Mt. Everest at the same time the tragedy that took the lives of eight climbers depicted in the book, “In Thin Air.” Kayes observed even through this tragedy, that the climbers did everything correct based on the goal setting theory; they had a clear goal and worked to achieve it above all else however the results were devastating still. In this example, the climbers ignored the evidence that told them that they should turn away from their goal an instead invested more time and energy which led to their deaths. According to Locke and Latham (2006) as long as a person is committed to their goal and does not have any other conflicting goals, there is a positive relationship between the goal and performance. Unfortunately though, goal setting has been prescribed and not monitored. Therefore, like all prescription abuse, organizations fail to recognize the harm that goals can caused due to creating...

Goal Setting Theory

...Goal Setting Theory BUS375: Employee Training Karen Demichelis   Goal Setting Theory For this week’s assignment I will examine the goal setting theory. This theory states that goal setting is essentially linked to task performance. Our text definition is “a theory assuming that behavior results from a person’s conscious goals and intentions.” (Noe, 2010.p553) I will relate how this theory is used by my current employer examining the advantages and the limitations of this theory. I will explain how this theory would generate the same results in any other organization. The goal-setting theory is used to develop training programs based on specific and challenging goals along with feedback. The practical use of this theory is goals indicate and give direction to an employee about what needs to be done and how much efforts are required to be put in. Edwin Locke presented this theory of motivation in the 1960’s. Dr. Gary Latham and Dr. Locke published their ground breaking book called “A Theory of Goal Setting and Task Performance”, in 1990. (Fusion, 2011) The most important features of this theory are a willingness to work towards attainment of goal as a main source of job motivations. In my company management and employees are involved in annual, mid-annual reviews where SMART Goals are generated. “SMART is an acronym for the elements of goals that lead up to the accomplishment of a specific task. These key performance indicators apply to nearly all disciplines...

Allstate provides their employees with a road map to succeed by executing the goal setting definitions. The employees were given tools and resources to become better. They have quarterly leadership measurements as well as the survey to get feedback from employees. Allstate focus on diversity, they see diversity as a strategy for leveraging differences in order to create a competitive advantage thus create four steps process to reach their effective goals. The first step which is the succession programming explains how Allstate identified and developed candidates for each key position. Locke's Goal-Setting Theory Of Nurse Diabetes

...Holding a position of the Nurse Diabetes Educator and encountering on daily basis patients who require ongoing clear goal setting along with the motivation to achieve these aims I came to a realization that my professional patient approach derives from the business oriented theory " Goal-setting theory" established by Locke. In 1968 Locke discovered through research that working toward a goal in view promotes motivation and consequently improving performance to achieve it. Furthermore, the more accurate and challenging goals the harder people tend to work towards that goal (1). Although this borrowed theory from business world affects employees' motivation, I can attest to the fact the healthcare world would benefit from this approach while motivating patients in diabetes management. As I go forward to unpack the framework of Locke and Latham's theory, it is worth to point out the five goals setting principles summarizing this approach: clarity, challenge, commitment, feedback, task complexity....

Remember The Titans Goal Setting Theory Essay

....    Edwin Locke in the 1960s created a theory called the Goal-Setting Theory. Goal-Setting Theory states that setting goals is what creates the drive that allows for tasks to be done and promotes higher performance. With goals set it give directions for works to get their tasks done. If a person sets their own goals and follow their assignment it is called self-set goals. Workers will also get updates and feedback from other employees. In the movie, Remember the Titans, Coach Boone says, “If we don't come together right now on this hallowed ground, we too will be destroyed, just like they were. I don't care if you like each other or not, but you will respect each other. And maybe... I don't know, maybe we'll learn to play this game like men”....

It bore such a close resemblance to what everyone describes heaven to be like. The only difference was this was ours for the taking. 2.) From my point of view the setting described allowed me to provide a more detailed and in depth description of the characters, as a picture is worth a thousand words – I was able to detail the thoughts, and feelings I saw fitting for each character. 1.) Character: Not caring about others opinions, the three friends had stopped acting as young adults and decided to let loose for a while. Smiling laughing and having the time of their life they all got lost in the moment, never knowing what was going to happen next whether it was a day, week, or even five minutes it didn’t matter. All that mattered was the joy they felt for the time being. Setting: It was almost too bright out as the sun’s rays beamed down on the concrete, the warm summer breeze compensated for the blistering heat. There wasn’t a cloud for miles and the streets normally busy with traffic were silent as if everyone else in the town had vanished. Everywhere you looked it was vacant, containing no signs of anything. 2.) In this images settings one would be able to explain what was happening more...

Online Learning Versus Traditional Learning

...Online learning is better than a traditional classroom setting and is also convenient. I agree with this because I am doing online learning. I believe that it accommodates the busy lives people have these days. Whether its working or raising a family, its hard to get to a traditional class on time versus getting on your computer at midnight and doing your course work. Some people think that there is too much time being spent on electronics as it is due to the fact that it runs their lives. But without electronics, where would we be now? We couldn’t track space shuttles or satellites without the help of computers. Computers have come along way since the 50’s. They are more advanced than they were back then. Another good thing about online learning versus traditional classroom learning is that you can study at your own leisure and at your own pace. You can’t do that in a traditional classroom learning setting. People without hectic lives prefer the traditional classroom learning so they can get the help from the teacher on a one on one level and be able to turn in assignments to a person not through a computer. They prefer more structured settings and being able to ask for help from fellow students also on a one on one level. I’ve done both, and I prefer the online learning due to more time to do assignments at my own pace and I don’t feel rushed. I felt rushed in a classroom setting. With online learning, you don’t have to worry about carrying books from class...

...interaction plays an important role between these two class settings. Students in a traditional class setting have the abilit7y to listen to the instructor, talk about lessons, ask any questions that they may have, as well as take part and watch any demonstrations. In a traditional class, students are able to communicate with peers and professors before and after class, regarding any assignments, concerns, or grades. Online students typically communicate with instructors through emails or phone. Teachers may also be able to explain things better face to face, rather than through emails or over the phone. So students may not get the complete explanation this way. Also, in the case of any questions, the professor and peers won't be readily available to provide feedback on the spot, though effective professors will make themselves available through a variety of methods, which includes online office hours. Taking classes online typically allow students to work asynchronously, which means they can choose where and when they complete their coursework. This is often ideal for students who work or single parents who needs a flexible schedule. Online classes can also be a great approach to a college degree, for as long as a computer and internet access is available, course work can be accessed from anywhere (Sorensen,2007). Though, students who struggle to be self-motivated may find that they can quickly fall behind. Traditional class settings...
