Sex Shop Visit

On November 13th I made a trip to the “Dr. Loves Erotic Superstore” sex shop in Pacific beach. I chose this particular sex shop because I work in PB and I passed by it plenty of times and have always wondered what it was like inside. This is my 2nd time visiting a sex shop, first time was years back with my ex-boyfriend, and it was an uncomfortable and shocking experience because I was never surrounded by so many sexual objects and pornographic images. This time I invited my best friend to go with me since I felt like it would be very awkward and uncomfortable for me to go in alone.
When I walked in, I had a sense of sexual overload that it was almost overwhelming. We both felt quite uncomfortable at first, but the worker was very kind and welcoming, it made us feel more at ease. As we looked around, it was actually beginning to be very interesting and fun rather than uncomfortable. I saw all kinds of sexual entertainment products such as sex toys, lingerie, clothing, pornography, and other related products. The product that I thought was most interesting was an “Artificial Hymen” that restores a woman’s virginity in 5 minutes, I’ve never knew such thing existed and was wondering if some women buy that and if it actually works. The product that I thought was most unusual was a “doggy sex doll” which had a hole in the back of it where a male can insert his penis. I thought it this product was a bit disturbing yet kind of funny. The most embarrassing product I saw was an enormous dildo that was about 25 inches long and 4 inches thick. I did not understand how it could go inside a woman’s vagina! Finally, the product that was most expensive was a gold plated vibrator that coasted around 650-700 dollars, I was not sure why someone would own that…
A back video room in the back of the store was offered for customers to pay money to watch pornography in privacy. I

Soho

...Soho is a region rich in culture. From its heavy media presence to its famous night life, Soho has become a place for tourists to flock to when they visit the city of London. Soho is in the West End of London but was farmalnd until 1536 when Henry VIII claimed the area as a royal park. The area was shuffled around for much of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and eventually became an are for immigrants and the like to settle down. Many had hoped that it would become a fashionable area, and would develop on a grand scale to become similar to the nearby Bloomsbury, Marleybone and Mayfair. By the mid-nineteenth century any respectable families had moved out of Soho and prostitutes, music halls and small theatres began to inhabit the area. By the turn of the century, cheap restaurants and neighborhood pubs became a meeting place for intellectuals, writers and artists. This continued into the sixties and many have said that many of these people "never stayed sober long enough to become successful." Many also credit this period for the increased popularity of the Soho pub. Soho is a name that comes with certain connotations: mostly sex shops and clubs. The name Soho has inspired regions in Hong Kong, New York and Buenos Aires. Soho plays host to industry, culture, media and entertainment. However, through our visit to Soho it is clear that the area truly allows people to be themselves. Every block has a gay bar, plays different types of music and sells different...

They think all of these kinds of individuals are the same, even though they are all different individuals. If you believe that a person is a certain type of way and you never know them as a personal, you are likely to fail on that persons’ personality. I will reach on some over stated statements and generalizations of people in different points. I will expose what I obtained from research, parts, and other elements. “Stereotypes are as old as people lifestyle itself. They indicate thoughts that various categories of individuals carry about others who are not similar to them.” (Media Awareness, 2009). Generalizations are a continuous issue. Because of stereotypes, individuals create presumptions about others that are unnecessary and wrong. Some of the stereotypes I have individually seen have to do with a companion by his competition, sex and age. My companion is a men African-American, he is regularly being evaluated by the way that I look. I discover that many of the stereotypes that individuals have about youthful dark-colored men impact the way that he is handled in community. For example, it’s not unusual for him to be “followed” or monitored in shops by officers. When he goes into a shop with a bag or...

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

...A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini Staged in pre-Taliban Afghanistan, A Thousand Splendid Suns is the story of two women and the tales of their intertwined lives. It shows how few rights they had before the Taliban came in to power and how they were stripped from them under Taliban control. Hosseini shows many examples of how these women were abused and seen as 2nd class citizens. I decided to read this book for the required assignment due to many different reasons. One of reasons I selected this book are the current conflicts going on right now in that area of the world. Another reason was that I wanted to learn a little more about that culture. I also got a positive review about the book from my cousin who read the book in his free time and loaned me the book to read. The main reason I read the book was to see how women in Afghanistan are treated before and during the Taliban control. I knew from what I had previously learned in your class on how greatly discriminated Muslim women are treated. I also knew how strict the Muslim religion is, but I wanted to read about it, even if it was fictional. My cousin had told me about the two women in the novel before but never told me specifics on how the girls were treated. I just had to read for myself to find out. A Thousand Splendid Suns was written by Khaled Hosseini, an American writer and physician who originally came from Afghanistan. This is his second book, he first wrote The Kite Runner which was a U.S...

Obama Care

...2010. Together with the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act, it represents the most significant government expansion and regulatory overhaul of the U.S. healthcare system since the passage of Medicare and Medicaid. Obama Care is aimed primarily at decreasing the number of uninsured Americans and reducing the overall costs of health care. It provides a number of mechanisms, including mandates, subsidies, and tax credits, to employers and individuals in order to increase the coverage rate. Additional reforms are aimed at improving healthcare outcomes and streamlining the delivery of health care. Obama Care requires insurance companies to cover all applicants and offer the same rates regardless of pre-existing conditions or sex. The Congressional Budget Office projected that Obama Care will lower both future deficits and Medicare spending. Despite all that has been written about it, many people are still confused or unaware of how it affects them and their family. If you already have health insurance Obamacare improved the benefits you already receive in the following ways; it allows you to add your children up to age 26 to your health insurance plan. Your insurance company can no longer drop you if you become sick, even if you made a mistake on your health insurance application. It can't limit the coverage you receive over your lifetime. Dubai

...Dubai: a playground for the rich and famous? Sex and the City… one of the most famous and fabulous series and movies ever since. Ordinary women can not resist the luxury, glamour, fashion, sex and gossip the four SATC girls are involved in. The first movie was a great success, the second even more. `One week in Abu Dhabi`, as Samantha said, turned out to be more glamorous as one can think of. Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha visited Abu Dhabi, one of the seven Emirates. In this movie everything is soaked in luxury and charm. The Emirates are almost presented like an illusion. But is it actually an illusion? Are the Arabic Emirates to good to be true? Too expensive? A dream to the regular crowd? Dubai, also one of the seven Emirates, is considered to be the most touristic one. According to (bronnen), Dubai has a lot to offer. Architecture, tropical beaches, shopping and culture are just a few examples. Dubai is booming, every year millions of people from all over the world visit this state, 30.000 of which are Dutch (www.ontdekdubai.nl). It is very unlikely that all these people are engaged to a “Sheik” like Samantha was. It seems that the Emirates, and Dubai in particular, are not that inaccessible to the regular crowd as we first thought, are they? To answer this question, the Dutch tourist will be point of reference. Getting there and around Dutch people are very keen on summer holidays. The weather in the Netherlands can be relatively depressing during winter...

Compulsive Shopping Disorder! Is It Real?

...I like my money where I can see it, hanging in my closet. – Carrie Bradshaw The phrase was said by Carrie Bradshaw, the main character in the series Sex & The City and one of the most famous TV fashionista. She was strongly committed to cultivating a spectacular wardrobe and could spend thousands of dollars on a pair of shoes or a designer dress without a gram of guilt. Going shopping was part of the routine for the protagonists of the program and Carrie became a fashion icon that illustrated the relationship between women and shopping. Is it true that we shop more than men, that shopping pleases us on a bad day or we have this uncontrollable urge? Researchers agree that its much more than opening the wallet and removing the card. In fact, women complete many of the visits to a store or mall without purchasing anything. That’s because for women these visits also symbolize entertainment, creativity, pleasure and independence. Which matters much more than just buying, says Patricia Huddleston, consumer specialist at the University of Michigan, in her book behavior Consumer Behavior: Women and Shopping. But is there such thing as too much shopping? Shopping addiction is characterized by an uncontrollable urge to buy unnecessary and superfluous products and when the wild and compulsive consumption exceeds the financial capacity of the person it is when the problems begins. In this post we will see what is Compulsive Shopping Disorder, its main problems and how we can...

Social Media and Identity

...business profits. We are having a good time by checking out our friends pictures and reading their thoughts and experiences online. If we think more deeply we will understand that there is something wrong. We like the fact that Facebook or other websites advertise our favorite stuff. For instance, I like to shop online and I always receive advertisement about fashion which was very entertaining for me. I was very excited to go to different websites and shop around. Now I am receiving so much junk emails and if I don’t delete them I will end up with two hundred emails a week. This is insane; every company sells each other our personal information to run their businesses. I feel that we are under control and we don’t have the same freedom anymore. Social networks track every movement we make. They are using us around the world by harming our lives. For example, I heard on the radio that now employers check our social networks before hiring us. They check our profiles and things we wrote online, which give them the idea whether or not to hire us. Moreover, credit card companies also do same by checking our marital status, race, sex, zip code and the type of websites we visit. Another example, I have seen a video on YouTube which surprises me a lot. A group of people for an organized Psychic office invited 10 people to go and have a free trial. I was impressed how the psychic was reading their lives. He was very detailed telling this person what type of tattoo he had on his...
