Human Resource Research Paper
Human Resource Management in a Call Center

Instructor: Kathryn Taft Advanced Human Resources Management BADM 382 March 16th, 2005 Raymond Chow

Executive Summary One of the growing yet toughest industries for human resource to manage is the call center. The call center industry has one of the highest turnover rates compared to other jobs due to its high level of stress and dullness. Retention starts with hiring the right person for the job. Human resource recruiters should look for applicants with these characteristics: self motivated, high tolerance for stress, positive attitude, good listening skills, good communication skills, ability to work as an individual and in a group, good problem solving skills, and enjoy helping customers. A good way to test out the applicants is to pre-screen telephone interviews to test out their phone skills. One of the most useful techniques that call centers use is the employee referral program. This program allows employees to recommend a friend, relative, or family member to the job and receive a cash prize if they pass the probation period. This technique tends to provide the new recruit with more realistic expectations and can provide a better cultural fit. Training and orientation is also important in human resource management in a call center. Training should include lots of role-play so employees can get comfortable talking to customers over the phone, learn to turn negative thoughts into positive ones, and understand the company’s goals, mission, and corporate culture. Another interesting technique used by companies such as Bodog.com, is having all new employees in the organization take part of the training and orientation of the call center to learn about the company and make them realize that the call center plays a big role in having a successful organization. Lastly, retention reduces...

Shahid Azmi

...Shahid Azmi, played by Rajkumar Rao, is shown to be a young boy, living with his family in a small one-room apartment. The Bombay riots leave him disturbed and he goes on to join a militant training centre across the border. There he is shown half-heartedly participating in arms training, till he loses his nerve on seeing a fellow trainee being executed on allegations of being a ‘traitor’. So, he runs back home as fast as legs can carry. On his return, he is picked up the police. He is booked under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act, 1987 (“TADA”). Then follows a journey of torture, judicial delays and a long period of incarceration. It is during his time in prison that Shahid chances upon Ghulam Nabi War and Professor Saxena, who wean him away from the ‘radical’ and dodgy inmates, and push him towards completing his education. Upon his release, Shahid obtains his law degree and enters the profession which would end up defining his short life. This movie looks at the sensitive subject of faith-based profiling and wrongful arrests in terror cases. Shahid is shown as a lawyer who attempts to live by the letter of the law, one who has immense faith in the tenets of law and one who recognizes the importance of sound, capable legal representation for those wrongly accused in terror cases. His...

Review of Milenge Milenge

...suffering from insomnia can recover. Well there are many noticeable things other than shapeless Kareena’s & chocolaty Shahid’s bad styling. The movie gets self rated by the slapstick of repetitive scenes & dialogues of the lead pair to their friends. How can be the story writer so dumb for not finding the bank’s name on the shopping receipt. The movie has been plotted on the basis of Chewing gum mechanism with boredom. Though it’s a copy of a Hollywood flick but it stands very prominent & unique for its music. There is a black out in the movie for 3 years but no explanation what everybody did for 3 years. Suddenly the actors dad announces the surprise engagement party of “Immy” a very immiscible nick name of Shahid, with his alien friend played by Aarti chabbria, Alien because shahid acts as if they are meeting for the first time. The climax which makes you curious to gauge the height of stupidity ends with beating up the bushes of your expectations. In short the extrasensory game of destiny makes a facetious show which persists badly till the end. I would really appreciate the work of story writer & screenplay person for their brilliant efforts to post mortem & use the term “DESTINY” throughout the movie. Whereas the lead pair fails to gel up the chemistry rather stigmatize by punching filmy dialogues. Serendipity was at its best but what a pity that the neither the publicity nor the main actors of the movie supported it. After a starry eyed “Jab we met” this......

Learning from History

...Retrospective Journey on Shahid and Connie Watson and the Life Skills Academy It is a truth universally acknowledged that social action creates stronger platforms for people to succeed and communities to develop more opportunities for improvement and involvement. Along with that universal truth, we must also acknowledge the fact that most of this change, most of these platforms, most of these improvements were started and spearheaded by the unspoken heroes and leaders of this world. Considering their 2.5% recidivism rate and their success in guiding people out of institutionalized and community-fenced prison systems, it is safe to say that Shahid and Connie Watson are two of the world’s greatest unspoken heroes. Shahid Watson is a native of Newark, New Jersey. Being one of five children, with parents and siblings who were involved in mainly drugs and violence, he had his sights set on getting out of his environment to create a better life for himself. After being homeless as a result of his familial situation, he graduated form high school in the top 10% of his class and was accepted into Rutgers University where he studied Business Administration (Watson, Shahid). As a result of the gang violence, drug abuse, incrimination, and the cycle of children being born into all of these categories, the Life Skills Academy was established in 1994. Life Skills Academy began out of a partnership with former NFL star Jim Brown (Cleveland Broncos) and Shahid Watson that started......

The rest of team is becoming distracted by the situation and your project is getting off schedule. ...naturalists education should be according to the nature of the child, Rousseau has played a great role in this regard (Sahu, 2002). In 1759, Rousseau published his famous book “Emile” which contained Rousseau’s ideas on naturalism. Emile means boy in French. In this novel Rousseau focuses on the private education of the boy (Shahid, 2000). Rousseau considered world as an artificial, autocratic, egotistic and arrogant place and Rousseau believed that education should be given according to the natural interest of the child aiming at a holistic development of the personality . Nature is the best teacher and means of education according to Rousseau (Singh, 2007). Philosophy of Education: Rousseau's philosophy of education is naturalistic (Shahid, 2000). According to naturalists education is the process of development of a natural life (Seetharamu, 2004).  Rousseau believed that education does not only mean to memorize or store information and knowledge rather it is the process which results in the development of the child’s nature and personality internally. Rousseau’s philosophy of education best ensures that the pupil will absorb information and concepts.  (Shahid, 2000). Naturalism states that parents are natural teachers and there is no need for the institutions such as school (Pathak, 2007).  A child is a child and not an adult in...

Culture Influences an Individual’s Perception of Illness and Health

...Assessment 2: “Culture influences an individual’s perception of illness and health.” 1000 wrds There are many definitions for 'culture' with the anthropologist Sir Edward Tylor (1871) cited by Ravalico (2006) defining it to mean 'that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, custom and any other capabilities and habits acquired by a member of society.' Culture also influences how one perceives their health and the idea of what it means to have ‘good health.’ One community group whose culture strongly impacts on individual’s perception of illness and health is the Australian Aboriginal community. Aboriginal Australians have a shorter life expectancy than others (ABS 2008, Shaouli et al 2011) which threatens Aboriginal culture as ‘elders’are the transmitters of Aboriginal culture. Aboriginal people experience worse health and more disease with the latter being three times more than that for the total Australian population (NATSIS 2008 cited by ABS 2008). Culture is one of the many social determinants of health and affects health (Carson, Dunbar, Chenhall and Bailie, 2007). Some indigenous people are fatalistic about their health (Thackrah and Scott 2011) although most can access medical help when needed providing they trusted their medical practitioners (ABS 2008, DATSIPD 2009). Other obstacles include language, lack of public transport and telecommunications (Shaouli et al 2011). Therefore, the impact of culture on individuals’ health is crucial......

Management Accounting

...Reel Tape Inc. was a great company in the 1960s. When cassettes came in, Reel Tape Inc. just switched its product line but not its attitudes. However, its competitors had changed the way to do business. These competitors set up strategy and management accounting system to improve their quality, cost and time. They had high quality, delivered products on time, and had low price. These competitors took market share from Reel Tape Inc. One of the reasons that led to Reel Tape Inc. lost its market share was the lack of a good management-accounting system. (Jan Bell, Shahid Ansari, Thomsa Klammer, and Carol Lawrence, 1997) What is management accounting Management accounting is a system of measuring and providing operational and financial information that guides managerial action, motivates behaviors, and supports and creates the cultural values necessary to achieve an organization’s strategic objectives. ...The word consignment can be generally defined as the act of sending a quantity of goods by the manufacturers and producers of one country or place to their agents in another at the risk of the principals for the purpose of sale. Goods so sent are known as "consignment". The sender of the goods is called the consignor. Generally the manufacturers or producers are consignors. The person to whom goods are forwarded for the purpose of sale is known as the consignee. The consignment can be classified as: 1. Outward consignment. 2. Inward consignment. It is called "outward" when the dispatch of a quantity of goods from one country to another is made for the purpose of sale and is called "inward" when the receipt of the quantity of goods is made for the purpose of sale. Goods sent on consignment do not become the property of the consignee. He has not bought them. The ownership remains with the sender or the consigner. If the goods are destroyed, the receiver (consignee) is not responsible. The loss will fall on the consignor. The consignee tries to sell the goods according to the instructions of the consignor. When the goods have been sold, he will deduct his expenses, commission, etc., from the sale proceeds and the balance is remitted to the consignor. The relationship between the consignor and the consignee is that of principle and agent. The consignee is the agent. The consignee acts entirely on behalf of the consignor. The Pact

...“You just have to step out there and believe in something you can’t quite see” (The Pact (pg.72)), words that my favorite character George Jenkins wrote in the novel The Pact. He is determined, curious, and inspiring; growing up in Newark, New Jersey he had a vigorous childhood and influential family. Dr. George Jenkins has many different traits but there is only one word that can describe his personaliy and that is optimistic. He had a dream of becoming a dentist and it was just that a dream for an eleven year old boy going to the dentist for a checkup, that turned into curiosity and questions about all the different tools that were being used. The dentist answered all of Georges question and he also showed him how everything was going to be habituated during his visit. After everything the dentist did that day for George he planted a seed that would one day make Georges dream a reality. As a child George lived in the Stella Wright Housing Projects in apartment 5G for the first seven years of his life. There wasn’t much to do most the structures were not in the best condition for a child to play on. His favorite place was the playground, George and his friends were always climbing, jumping, and swinging. When he was seven he moved to High Park Gardens. Georges third grade teacher Miss. ...Illuminating For Green Shirts Shoaib Zaheer No comments A few months back, Pakistan had given Lankan Tigers a mauling in bilateral series. Pakistan under the astute and composed leadership of Misbah-ul-Haq entered the Asia Cup as favorites to win the tournament given their triumph in the previous outing at Bangla shores. The Asia Cup tournament will vindicate the green shirts about possible Achilles heel brewing under the curtains. One appreciates the team mammoth effort against Bangladesh and shocking India to go through to the Finals. Throughout the tournament there were areas of concern for the team in view of global trophy success in 2015 held in Australia. First, Shahid Afridi did play well in terms of batting by pulling off the amazing heist against India and decimating Bengalis to achieve a gigantic score. Shahid Afridi is one of the most iconic cricketers the country has produced but there must be a serious concern about fitness since he has become more prone to injuries. The all-rounder has not set world alight with his bowling since few years. It is imperative for the team management to manage the work load of stalwart in order to be in full throttle in the global tournament. Umer Gul one of the most reliable spearheads powers started to wane since he has looked off-color and has bowled poorly to add worries for the coach and selectors. The fast bowler might be out of favor any time soon in near future. The third big worry for the Pakistan is over-reliance......
