Shannon Is My Hero

Words 710

When we were young, we all had some kind of hero. Some of the heroes as a kid consisted of ones like Batman, Robin Hood, Hulk, and Superman. All of these characters did heroic actions that made kids love them, or even idolize them, but as we grow older heroes change. Growing up, I never thought about who my hero was until I was in high school and realized that she had always been right beside me. My hero is Shannon Clover; my elementary enemy, middle school best friend, and life-time hero. Shannon is my hero because she is able to overcome tremendous obstacles, go after her dreams, and is hard working. Overcoming obstacles is something that everyone will have in their life, but the way you overcome it can be something amazing. When Shannon …show more content…
Shannon was and always has been at the top in everything, from academics to sports. As long as I have known Shannon she has always been smart. Being able to see Shannon grow and become so knowledgeable flabbergasts me. She was able to be valedictorian of our graduating class and now has just about finished two years of college all in one year. Shannon is transferring from TVCC to ISU to finish her degree as an ultrasound technician. An ultrasound technician requires either an associate’s degree or a bachelor’s degree and they most commonly look at fetus ultrasounds (Study.com). Once she completes that she then is going to go back to school to become a radiologist. “Radiologists graduate from accredited medical schools, pass a licensing examination, and then go on to complete a residency of at least four years of unique post-graduate medical education in, among other topics” (American College of Radiology). The way she works and the load amount she does has no word to describe the talent she has. She is not only smart, but she is athletic. During our senior year of basketball, Shannon was able to lead our team into state. She was our main shooter during the season and had passion for the game like no one else. She was very dedicated and worked extremely hard both before and during the season.
The final reason why Shannon is my hero is because the amount of hard work she has.

Far & Away

...young farmer named Joseph Donnelly. Joseph is angry with his landlord Daniel Christie who had the Donnellys’ farm burned down due to the lack of rental. He goes to the Christie family’s estate with the intention of killing his landlord. Here he meets the beautiful daughter Shannon Christie. She is dissatisfied with the “old way of living” she is with her parents and longs after a modern lifestyle. With Joseph facing eviction and Shannon longing for a modern world, they run away towards America together. They start in Boston where they struggle and work hard to live and save money. Joseph works as a barehanded boxer, which brings him lots of positive attention, but when he is beaten their money is taken away and they are left homeless on the streets, while they are dreaming of owning their own land. When Shannon later gets reunited with her family they go separate ways. At last they meet again at the Oklahoma race in 1893 and conquer their own land together. Review: Far & Away is both historical and humorous and contains a lot of American values. We are given a clear picture of how “The new world” was appealing to European citizens and how the shaping of America took place. When Joseph and Shannon first arrive at Boston, they have nothing and they have no other solution than to start working their way up. This is a good example on the strong American belief that says; to gain material wealth you need to work hard before you deserve it. Also you can get the expression...

The Carpenter's Wife - a Critical Essay

...The Carpenter’s Wife During the telling of “The Miller's Tale” within The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer goes to great lengths to describe the character of Alison, the carpenter's wife. This is done not only so readers will have a detailed physical portrayal of her in their minds, but also so they can make inferences as to her character by the way she chooses to presents herself. The vivid depiction of Alison implies that she has very little value except as an object to be used for sexual gain by men. Furthermore, the lengthy, highly descriptive examination of her character when weighed against the almost nonexistent description of her husband creates such a contrast that the reader feels as if it is wrong for the two to be together. Chaucer begins by very briefly detailing the aspects of herself that she has no control over: she is 18 years old, fair, slender, and delicate. He follows this with a description of each article of clothing she wears. It quickly becomes clear to the reader that Alison is fully aware of how physically attractive she is, and she dresses to show off her finer attributes. She wears highly decorative clothing of embroidered silk rather than a more practical linen or wool. Even her purse, an object that only has to carry belongings, is decorated with silk tassels and “perled with latoun” (line 143). The apron she wears at first suggests some sense of practicality, as she does not want to dirty the clothes beneath it, but it is described as “whit...

Fall of Asclepius

...Fall of Asclepius By Harm 1 and Icrick Prologue Where should I begin? The apocalypse happened so fast. In less than a month, monsters infested every part of this world. People panicked, people died. They clawed at each other just to get out of all the infested areas around the world. There was problem about fleeing from infested areas. Everywhere was infested. There was no where anyone could go without encountering the walking plague. You know that phrase "War is Hell"? Well... it's dead wrong. War at least has some organization to it. What was faced in the last days... by last days I mean the last days of civilization not life; itself. What was faced was hell. Everyone went ape shit insane. Everyone was killing and raping each other into oblivion, because we were under attack by creatures that was so beyond our understanding! Geez, there were many names given to these undead. Some called them demons, others called them lost souls. With all these names, I found only one that was truly worthy; Zombies. It was a simple word. At the same time it was the most complicated word to enter any human language. I mean just think about it... You say that word to anyone before the outbreak and what would they think of? They would, think of those horror movies or comic books where, for no reason what so ever, zombies appear all around the globe in an instance. That's not how it happened for us. There were signs for over two months. It's just that no one took the time to put the...

PREFACE Rationale We agreed to produce the instructor’s manual for the sixth edition of A First Look at Communication Theory because it’s a first-rate book and because we enjoy talking and writing about pedagogy. Yet when we recall the discussions we’ve had with colleagues about instructor’s manuals over the years, two unnerving comments stick with us: “I don’t find them much help”; and (even worse) “I never look at them.” And, if the truth be told, we were often the people making such points! With these statements in mind, we have done some serious soul-searching about the texts that so many teachers—ourselves...

North Korea War

...Korean War Korean War The Korean War (25 June 1950 - armistice signed 27 July 1953[1] ) was a military conflict between the Republic of Korea, supported by the United Nations, and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, supported by the People's Republic of China (PRC), with military material aid from the Soviet Union. The war was a result of the physical division of Korea by an agreement of the victorious Allies at the conclusion of the Pacific War at the end of World War II. The Korean peninsula was ruled by Japan from 1910 until the end of World War II. Following the surrender of Japan in 1945, American administrators divided the peninsula along the 38th Parallel, with United States troops occupying the southern part and Soviet troops occupying the northern part.[2] The failure to hold free elections throughout the Korean Peninsula in 1948 deepened the division between the two sides, and the North established a Communist government. The 38th Parallel increasingly became a political border between the two Koreas. Although reunification negotiations continued in the months preceding the war, tension intensified. Cross-border skirmishes and raids at the 38th Parallel persisted. The situation escalated into open warfare when North Korean forces invaded South Korea on 25 June 1950.[3] It was the first significant armed conflict of the Cold War.[4] The United Nations, particularly the United States, came to the aid of South Korea in repelling the invasion.
