The Rapture series is Shirin Neshat’s thirteen-minute video installations that were shot in black and white (Whitney Museum). For this specific analysis, we are looking at a horizontal gelatin silver print of a scene in this series. Since the photo is taken from Neshat’s original video installation, it also appear in black and white. When looking at this image, we can see the environment that everything took place in, which is an ocean scenery. There are around forty women in traditional black chadors walking towards the waves. The group turns their backs against the viewers and they are all identically dressed. Moreover, they are also in shadow, which makes it even more difficult to distinguish one individual from another.
