Short Paper #1:
Ethical dilemmas and decision making is one of the most important aspects in business. Business owners will be confronted with situations where they must make a decision that could affect their company or individuals in your company. Most of the time there is no right or wrong answers, and most of the time they will be stuck in the middle. What makes ethical dilemmas particularly difficult is that they often involve conflicts between two or more deeply held beliefs. Employers and employees have a responsibility in every ethical situation, it should always start with the organization and how the conduct themselves. Let’s go over an example of an ethical dilemma and how they should deal with this dilemma.
Angela’s is faced with an ethical dilemma. She was very helpful to her friend Carla and her nephew by helping him get a position with WellCare USA. Carla is very grateful, and Jaden is as well. Jaden is very happy with his current situation him and his wife are about to put a down payment on their first house. Angela is aware that a decision has been made to transfer that same position that Jaden is hoping to get. This accounting position will likely be moved to Chicago and this position will more than likely be given to someone else due to seniority. As Carla is expressing her appreciation and telling her about Jaden and his wife, she’s starting to feel a bit uneasy. Although she feels this way she should not divulge the information that she knows. This is called conflicts of loyalty (Saylor pg. 67). It is easy to make an unethical decision some of these factors can by money, loyalty with friends, or just to get ahead of someone else. When faced with these situations there are a few things she can do to...

Writing About Literature: Documentation

...materials from while writing a research paper. The source might be a primary one when the paper is dealing with a specific literary work or works be a certain author or it might be a secondary source when the materials referred to are of other authors who wrote on the same subject/author that the writer is writing his/her paper on. This documentation is important for two reasons: (a) to give the readers an opportunity of checking any information that he may doubt of been misinterpreted, (b) to avoid plagiarism by announcing the statements that are not of his own and are taken from other people. Documentation could be done through one of the following ways: • Textual documentation Almost all the literary papers by nature are dealing with one or more literary works which means certain text or texts are been studied. Titles like "Symbolism in William Blake's Tiger" indicate that the material that is used in the paper will a poem with the mentioned title. Essays and most of the newspaper articles that deal with one single short work without suing secondary sources are using this kind of documentation which is also called informal documentation. The name of the author and the title of the work on which the paper focus on are mentioned near the beginning of the essay as well as some other references like " in the opening scene"," in act 2…"or" in the end of the play…". Think of this paper as a short literature review. Note 1: Your research papers must be your own original work!  Be sure to give proper credit when you borrow or use someone else's words and ideas, including your own previously written works. See the sixth edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association pages 15-16 for specific information on Plagiarism and Self-Plagiarism. If proper credit is not given to the work of others, the paper will be assigned a grade of 0. Note 2: If you choose to use the same topic for Paper 1 and for Paper 2, remember that your review of related literature for Paper 1 will be part of the research design you develop in Paper 2. Choose sources for Paper 1 that will fit well with the research design you plan to develop in Paper 2. Note 3: Write your paper in third person. Scholarly works such as Paper 1 generally are written in third person to avoid reader concern about bias in an empirical study. 2. Use APA formatting. A large portion of your grade will be based on formatting. The items below provide basic APA formatting information that will help you as you begin the formatting process. Alignment should be flush left, or aligned to the left creating uneven right margin. * Running Head and Short Title. Running heads are short titles located at the top of each of the pages of your article. Short Titles on the other hand are two to three-word derivation of the title of your paper. Running heads should not be confused with Short Titles. Running heads are typed flush left at the top of all pages while Short Titles are typed flush right. ...firm can invest in marketable securities to increase its liquidity. However, such a policy involves committing the firm’s funds to a relatively low-yielding (in comparison to fixed assets) investment. II. Managing the firm’s use of current liabilities A. The greater the firm’s use of current liabilities, other things being the same, the less will be the firm’s liquidity. B. There are a number of advantages associated with the use of current liabilities for financing the firm’s asset investments. 1. Flexibility. Current liabilities can be used to match the timing of a firm’s short-term financing needs exactly. 2. Interest cost. Historically, the interest cost on short-term debt has been lower than that on long-term debt. C. Following are the disadvantages commonly associated with the use of short-term debt: 1. Short-term debt exposes the firm to an increased risk of illiquidity because short-term debt matures sooner and in greater frequency, by definition, than does long-term debt. 2. Since short-term debt agreements must be renegotiated from year to year, the interest cost of each year’s financing is uncertain. III. Determining the appropriate level of...

Re: Discussion

...CHAPTER 18 Working-Capital Management and Short-Term Financing CHAPTER ORIENTATION In this chapter we introduce working-capital management in terms of managing the firm's liquidity. Specifically, net working capital is defined as the difference in current assets and current liabilities. The hedging principle is offered as one approach to addressing the firm's liquidity problems. In addition, this chapter deals with the sources of short-term financing that must be repaid within 1 year. CHAPTER OUTLINE I. Managing current assets A. Like fixed assets, the firm's investment in current assets is determined by the marginal benefits derived from investing in them compared with their acquisition cost. B. However, the mix of current and fixed assets of the firm's investment in total assets is an important determinant of the firm's liquidity. That is, the greater the firm's investment in current assets, other things remaining the same, the greater the firm's liquidity. This is generally true since current assets are usually more easily converted into cash. C. The firm can invest in marketable securities to increase its liquidity. However, such a policy involves committing the firm's funds to a relatively low-yielding (in comparison to fixed assets) investment. II. Managing the firm's use of current liabilities A. The greater the firm's use of current liabilities, other things being the same, the less will be the......
