After hearing the details, at least as well as Estua was able to explain them, of how she had been able to mend some of the dragon's wounds, Ernst had an idea. He didn't know if it would work or not, but he had an idea anyway. They built a makeshift litter and Corny pulled the dragon back to the site of the battle with the brumble beasts. George and Ernst drove away the scavengers and went to work on the most intact brumble beast. Estua watched in fascinated horror as Ernst and George sawed away at it with their combat knives. The dragon remained unconscious and she wanted to work on his wounds some more, but Ernst had insisted that she reserve her power for what he had in mind. She was skeptical, but Ernst thought it would work, so when the two men had made their adjustments and were finally ready, she began. At first she had trouble even getting started, but bit by bit the magic began to take hold. Ernst made her stop and rest twice, he didn't want her passing out halfway through the procedure.
