Many people believe that schools should not allow sports programs after school hours. According to numerous parents and teachers, schools should eliminate sports for a variety of important, crucial reasons. Therefore, schools should eliminate sports to help cut costs for equipment, give students more time to focus on grades, and allow kids to focus on work instead of games.

As many sports coaches know, equipment can cost schools plenty of money. To find out how much schools actually spend, Amanda Ripley interviewed Superintendent Ernest Singleton of the Premont Independent School District who stated that, “By suspending sports, he realized, the district could save $150,000 in one year” (11). More specifically, “bleachers can cost half a million …show more content…
According to Ripley, “50% of students passed their classes earlier in the fall, compared to when sports were cancelled, 80% of students passed later in the year (11). More specifically, “160 people attended parent-teacher night, compared with six the year before” (Ripley 11). This is important because student’s grades are dropping dramatically, and this must change as soon as possible. As a result, students are spending more time worrying about their grades instead of a sports games.

Although it is clear that grades are dropping dramatically, districts must address a problem that many kids are facing; students need more time to focus on academics. “The district has a lot of work to do before its students can feel the same kind of pride in their academics that they once felt in their sports teams” (RIpley 11). “But students have proved their ability to adapt” (Ripley 11). It may be easy to adapt, but getting back to what their hard working school days should be like is a little difficult to undergo. As a result, students are working harder to get back on track with important class

Should School Uniforms Be Paid?

...week, seven hours a day. Schools have turned to making their students wear expensive and uncomfortable clothes just because it keeps them more “safe”. Schools have had uniforms for a long time, but now schools are taking it to far by forcing families to spend hard earned money on clothes their kids only wear to school. Keeping kids from being themselves at school. Schools should not have dress codes because it limits students’ self-expression they’re expensive. Wearing a uniform limits self-expression and personal style. Students need to learn to be themselves and standout from the rest of the crowd. For example, “Children are always taught to break free and standout. But with uniforms, the schools are actually lobbying the opposite” (Listland 1). If uniforms are teaching kids the opposite of what they were taught while growing up then clearly...

Should Students Get Paid at School

...Should Students Get Paid at School? Would you like to get paid at school? The idea of students getting paid at school is very important to think about. My personal opinion is that students should get paid at school because it gives the student a real world experience. I think students should get paid at school because students will learn to be independent. If students get good marks they will earn money. Since the students will earn money, they will rely on themselves to buy supplies, clothes, games and more for themselves. Students will not have to go to their parents to ask for money to buy things. Students won’t have to go their parents to ask for money when there are fundraisers at school or any trips. Since the students have money they will learn to spend money wisely. They won’t spend money on things they If students start to get paid at school they will experience having a job. They will learn that if they do well they will get paid more which is what happens at a job. When you do a good job at work your boss pays your more. Also students will learn to handle money. When students start to earn money they will know how to use and spend the money. They won’t spend the money on useless things as much as they would when they don’t get paid at school. Students don’t understand how much work it takes to earn money and so they keep on spending money. When they start earning money they will understand how to use and...

Argumentative Essay: Should School Sports Be Paid?

...Do you believe school sports can affect a student's grades, or that sports may cause unnecessary injuries to a student-athlete? I believe that sports should not be removed from schools because they have a positive impact on students. Sports give students something to look forward to, a lot of health benefits, and a chance to improve their social lives. Without sports, many students would have more stress and have less social skills to help them communicate in the future. The most important reason school sports should stay is that it gives stressed-out students a relief from their school related responsibilities. It also gives them something for them to look forward to during the long school day. Doctors and specialists are saying that physical...

They filed this petition because they believed that due to the amount of time and work that they put in towards their football program they should be compensated for it. However, getting the opportunity to play a sport in college should be a privilege rather than a job, seeing as the sport is almost always one which you love to compete in and enjoy. After all, the only reason that these people are on a team is because their school and coaches offered them the chance to play, so why should they have the opportunity to get paid for it? Because of this, I believe that college athletes should...

Football

...My topic is on whether or not college football players should get paid to play football. I feel like this is a topic that a lot of football players that is transitioning from high school to college discuss frequently. There has been a few controversies on if college football players have been paid under the table. When you hear that they have been paid under the table, it means that either the college they have chosen has given them money secretively, the head football coach paid them out of their own pockets, or even someone they know personally has paid them to play for that school. College football players should not be paid to play football. There are many reasons on why they should not get paid. When you hear a certain college name, the first thing you hear come out of someone’s mouth is something about how good or bad their football team is. Football players are shown a lot of attention. On their campuses they are very well known, whether or not if they play in the games or sit on the sidelines. Most college football players end up getting a full ride to school because they play football. If they are not paying for school out of pocket, they shouldn’t get paid to do something they are supposed to do. Another reason why they shouldn’t get paid to play football is the fact that other teams that play sports on the campus don’t get paid. Why out of all teams, football should be the one to get paid. For example, a baseball team on the campus might be better than the football...
