Are Video Games A Sport?
Should video games be considered a school sport? In many schools, video games a considered a sport. There is a large debate over if this is a good decision to consider it a sport. I strongly believe that video games should not be considered a sport because they don’t require physical exertion and they don’t make you any healthier or stronger. Many people think kids tend to increase in skill and strategy when playing video games. They also believe that this helps them learn to solve problems. These same people believe that this is also a very entertaining sport for others to watch. They seem to like it. They believe that because he League of Legends Playoff got 11.2 million

First of all, like any other sports or games that have been organized and invested for...

Should Video Gaming Be Classed as a Sport

...Should Video Games be Classified as Sports? As the title says, chess is a sport. It requires strategy, is played worldwide, and is a competitive game. Those same principals can, and are - applied to video games. In my personal opinion, gaming takes much more mental prowess than say chess. You have to learn how your opponents play, you have to practice, and you have to understand the rules of each game - and how each game works. Unlike other sports, such as football, soccer, basketball, and etc. - gaming is not focused on one specific game. There are hundreds upon hundreds of individual games, all with completely different styles and methods of playing. From FPS' to RTS', both that are almost completely unalike - but they all go under the name of 'gaming'. Although some may not like it, and I am not sure why - gaming is now the most popular form of entertainment in the United States, going ahead of the movie and music industry. That's quite a feat to accomplish, and both the movie and music industry have been around for well over a decade - while gaming has only been around for around half of that. The difference between movies, television, and music - is that you aren't experiencing something that someone else is doing, but rather - you are the one interacting in a world where everyone is sharing the same experience with you. If we take all of this in, and add in the facts that there are formal teams, holding formal championships, and with monetary stakes and titles at hand...

...defined by a person who is trained in or above average at sports, games, or exercises that require physical skill. A professional gamer doesn’t necessarily fit into the definition of an athlete, but they truly have so many similarities that a professional gamer could also be also seen as a professional athlete. Hard work, dedication, and skill are all necessary to make it in either profession, and although they require different types of physical ability, both require an above ordinary physical ability to achieve their status. In addition, they both have sponsors, are known by many, and get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for playing their sport or game exceptionally well. The similarity that makes professional athletes and professional gamers most alike is that both require an incredible amount of skill and dedication. Not any average person can pick up a video game controller and play at the level of a top pro gamer just like not any average person can pick up a basketball and be the next Michael Jordan. People argue that gamers don’t work as hard, but they have to put just as many hours of work that traditional athletes put in training. Some athletes push their body to the utmost limit and put out tons of work controlling and improving their diet. So playing a video game for hours a day equates to completely changing your diet and hours of rigorous physical training? No, it does not, but we are not comparing the sports, just like golf doesn’t require as much physical abilities...

The Bad Habit

...test during the school year. I, however, was focusing on mastering video games or doing physical activities such as play a pickup game of football or basketball. This is why I sometimes struggle with understanding a book or taking a test. When I was around the age of 10, a new video game came out, making me very excited. All I could think about was how great it would be to have it. The game was a football game called Madden NFL 2006, and not a day went by without me thinking about playing it. My mother was very supportive of me throughout my childhood years and often asked me what I wanted for my birthdays and Christmas. When the question came out, “What would you like for your birthday”, I knew exactly what to say. Without hesitating I told her Madden NFL 2006. Looking back now I should have asked for a more interesting product, such as a dirt bike, but being ridiculous, I choose this game instead. Once I received it, I couldn’t wait to play it, not even the birthday cake or the homemade ice cream my aunt made could stop me. Taking the plastic off of the case was the biggest problem; I mean it was like the producers wanted you to struggle before you experienced the greatness. After I had taken the plastic off, I slipped the game in the system and explored through the many new features of the game. Everything from playing exhibition games to playing a career with a created player was on this game. I couldn’t get off of it; I was playing it while everyone else...

Strategic Plan Netflix

...umbrella of the movies and home entertainment industry. The company has been part of the wave that is taking this industry into the future in terms of how consumers are interacting with home video entertainment in particular. In general, we can observe that consumers are increasingly demanding more instant and personalized experiences when watching video entertainment as well as more mobile availability. There seems to be a “when I want it, how I want it” type of movement among consumers with declining interest in DVD’s and scheduled television programming and increasing use of online streaming or rental alternatives. Netflix is catering to these trends with its streaming service and seems to be well positioned, at least for now, to be successful in the future if it can manage to avoid more strategic “missteps” along the way. It is important to note how the public perceives and values films as an entertainment source here in the United States, something that directly affects Netflix’s business. Standard & Poor’s industry research for 2013 noted that “movies remain a cornerstone of the U.S. entertainment industry.” In 2012, about 1.36 billion movie tickets were sold in North America, adding up to about $10.8 billion in box office revenues. Consumers also spent about $18 billion on various home video formats in...

Millions of people attend big tournaments and exhibition games on the regular basis. Sports are no longer fun and games; it’s a business. Universities make an ample amount of money due to the praise college sports receive. Yes, some players on the team do go to school with a free scholarship, but is that it? People would be truly grateful to obtain a scholarship for an expensive university, but the situation that college athletes are in has to be examined closely. You can even compare the college athletes to your local prostitute. They are using their bodies for the income growth of huge universities, which will be the pimp. The school receives money from ticket sales, television contracts, sport-related merchandise, and many other sport-related revenue builders. The income that the universities obtain compared to what the athletes earn is nothing, a ratio of 1:0. Student athletes should be paid because they risk their health, it’s not fair financially, and it leads to students doing illegal acts. During the act of playing a competitive and physical sport, there are health risks that each player takes. Basketball players become injured all the time during playing their sport. Newlandish

...Rivalry in Video Game Industry  Introduction  The video games industry faces an entirely new rivalry situation. After 11 years of leadership, Sony has nearly lost its strong positions on the market, which gives the other two players – Microsoft and Nintendo - the chance to compete for the leadership. While the goal of Nintendo is to stay in the industry, Sony and Microsoft aim to strengthen their positions on the home entertainment market, which is constantly growing. The key factors, the companies need to consider in order to gain a competitive advantage, are good marketing and well developed distribution, as well as providing a huge range of games with recognizable characters. As the market segmentation increases, it is of crucial importance to put an emphasis upon the new target groups and reqruit as many new players as possible. However, there are also a lot of factors outside and inside the industry, which play a major role and have to be considered in order to become a better idea of the state of the industry, and to estimate its profitability and tendency of growing.  Summary of macro-environmental analysis  Stricter legislation both advantageous and disadvantageous for the video games industry is expected. As governments become more concerned about the increasing violence among teenagers the control of video games content is strengthened.
