The two passages by Northup and Frederick compare and contrast in many ways. Many similarities are, one, they both explain that the slaves are waken up by horn and have to get to the field or there are consequences; “An hour before daylight the horn is blown. Then the slaves arouse...and hurry to the field again. However, the passage by Frederick Douglass, is more this is what happens, rules, and being more observant to what everyone else is going through as well, it goes into depth (being that Frederick douglass was born a slave and Northup was kidnapped into slavery as an adult).
