For my site visit, I decided to go to the Burlington Baptist Temple. As I walked inside I came to the quick realization that it was not actually temple, but it was a Southern Baptist Church. I sat in one of the back pews and decided to just observe instead of really participate in what was going on. When the mass started there were a few different speakers before the actual pastor came to the microphone. First there was a gentleman that came to the front to talk about announcements for what was going to be taking place during the upcoming week. After that, another man came up and started singing the opening hymn, which after feeling that I needed to participate I decided to sing along with because I really wanted to get a feel for what was happening around me. From what I was able to grasp the main messages were respecting elders, getting children to connect with one another and the difference between right and wrong. It seemed to be more of the pastor’s interpretation about the readings and his own feelings about what was going on in the world than the actual bible passages. But to my surprise everyone else in the “temple” agreed with what he had been saying. This comes back to the idea of like-mindedness that we discussed in class and about what is going on from the outside world because this is a group of people feels they need a place to express their feeling. While there, a considerable amount of time was talking about what would happen if Hillary Clinton becomes the first women president. The majority of that talk was to express the downsides to what would change in terms of punishment and health care. This seems to me a lot like what was happening with Malcolm X and his
