...Smartphone Good afternoon to Mr. Frankie and all my friends. Before I get started with my topic, I would like to share a story on how important it is to have a smartphone. The story begins when Ali and Abu went to the zoo. As they passed by the dolphin park, Ali asked Abu, “which animal group dolphins in?”. Then, Abu said he was not sure about that. Ali replied “its okay, I bring along my smartphone.” However, Ali did not search about the animal group. Instead he threatened Abu; he will beat Abu using his smartphone if Abu did not answer his question. My topic for today is the Smartphone. What do you know about smartphones? Actually a smartphone is a type of mobile phone that can perform many of the operations that a computer does, such as accessing internet. You may access the internet, wherever or you are, you still can connect to the internet through the smartphone. Let me tell you some of the benefits if I or you or we have a smartphone. First, I can have any information that I need at your fingertips. Just press a few buttons, then as quick as lightning I will get what you want. I can access to the map, television transmission with news coverage, weather reports and also traffic information. Now, more and more services are being made available on smartphone. With these kind of services, you will be ahead of what’s going on. Next, by having a smartphone I will be organized. Beside, smartphone handsets can function as personal organizers with electronic diaries...

...NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT On Apple’s New Product Development Strategy Posted on January 1st, 2010 by daniel Michael Malone from ABC News wrote an interesting article on Apple’s iPhone and its overall new product development strategy, with interesting strategic lessons for new product development and business in general. Google Nexus Offers Little Competition to Apple iPhone Why Google’s New Smartphone Won’t Knock Apple Off Its iPhone Throne COLUMN By MICHAEL S. MALONE, ABC News Jan. 1, 2010 Whether the marketplace is ready or not, the Big Guns in consumer electronics are about to make their move at the dawn of the New Year. Next Tuesday, Google is expected to announce its long-rumored Nexus One smartphone. It is undoubtedly designed to run the Google Android operating system for cellphones, which the search giant introduced more than a year ago. Android was envisioned as a major breakthrough in cellphones because it offered an "open" operating system i.e., one that other companies could use and design applications for. At the time, this strategy was compared to that of Microsoft Windows, which broke the market hegemony of Apple’s decidedly non-open OS in the mid-1980s and within a decade, turned Apple into a niche company. This time around, the new Android phones were supposed to break the hegemony of the Apple iPhone. So far, it hasn’t quite worked out that way with Android. A number of cell phone companies notably Motorola, HTC, and Samsung have adopted Android...

...Smartphones and Younger Generation In 2011, Tim Pike discussed the increasing amount of younger generation using smartphones nowadays in the article “How smartphones technology affects society.” (Pike, 2011). Pike wrote: “The advantage of a smartphone is the advent of fastest connection and a transfer speed, which means; potentially children can always be instantly connected”. In other words, smartphones help parents be aware of what children do, tighten the connection between parents and children, and increase their safeness wherever they are. Personally, I disagree with the author’s point that with the common of smartphones using, children could be safer with a smartphone and could be connected immediately. It is true to say that smartphones help people communicate instantly, no matter where you are. However, it is not necessary for a child to own a smartphone. In fact, it is not safe at all to have a child separated from their parents, go on their own and have a smartphone to contact to their parents. They always need to have adults with them if their parents busy and couldn’t take care of their children. Following a recent survey lead by mobile service provider Zact found that 56% of 10-to-13-year-old children own a smartphone, 25% of 2-to-5-year-old children also have a smartphone. It’s not reasonable and sensible to give children a smartphone in that age if they are accompanied by the adult. Smartphone will disrupt the bond between children and parents more than help...

What these owners many not know are the security risks that surround the raving technology. Most of the unawareness starts at companies and customers not placing more significance on security as smartphones get smarter. Although a smartphone may not be at greater risk than a PC, some security issues and risks are still present with PDA’s and smartphones. In the United Kingdom, a whooping 800,000 people were the victim of mobile phone theft in 2006. Even though 90 percent of these phones deactivated within 48 hours, what happened to the other 10% of users that lost data to the crime. Smartphones are linked to the corporate network and are as vital as a laptop on the company network. Also, you cannot stop your employees from having accidents by underestimating these devices. Mobile phone operators can stop SIM cards and stop expensive calls from being made. However, a smartphone differs from regular mobile phones. Executives carry all kinds of information on the device, from confidential announcements, to financial results and business in progress. If any of these were ever lost, it could result in the lost of business and trust within company IT infrastructures. It is important to recognize the dangers before permitting a full mobile device network within the company. When sending emails, texts, and...

Smartphones

...A smartphone is a high-end mobile phone[1][2][3] that combines the functions of a personal digital assistant (PDA) and a mobile phone. Today's models typically also serve as portable media players and camera phones with high-resolution touchscreens, web browsers that can access and properly display standard web pages rather than only mobile-optimized sites, GPS navigation, Wi-Fi and mobile broadband access. The term smartphone is usually used to describe phones with more advanced computing ability and connectivity than a contemporary feature phone, although the distinction can be vague and there is no official definition for what constitutes the difference between them. The definitions also shift over time since many phones that are considered feature phones today can have capabilities that exceed those of phones that had been promoted as smartphones in the past. Smartphones run mobile operating systems such as Apple's iOS, Google's Android, Microsoft's Windows Phone 7, Nokia's Symbian, RIM's BlackBerry OS, and embedded Linux distributions such as Maemo and MeeGo. Such systems can be installed on many different phone models, and typically each device can receive multiple OS software updates over its lifetime. Smartphones run third-party applications using advanced application programming interfaces (APIs),[4] which can allow those applications to have better integration with the phone's OS and hardware than is typical with feature phones. In comparison, feature phones more...

...The Dependence of People on Smartphones. The excessive use of smartphones has not only changed the way we see technology but also the way we live our lives. In the year 2000, the first touch screen phone was introduced and people who loved technology were amazed by this cellphone technology that did not required a physical keypad to work or access the cellphone main menu, although not that many special features were added to this cellphone besides the digital touch screen tech lovers fell in love with this device almost instantly because of the futuristic idea of replacing buttons with a digital touchscreen. Even though this cellphone was a pioneer in a new era revolutionizing the idea of a physical keypad to enter numbers did not become so popular after people got bored from just the digital screen and that did not do anything else but to dial numbers to make a phone call. In the year 2007 a new cellphone was introduced, a cellphone that not only looked very elegant and extremely different than any other cellphone at the moment or made before, but was able to perform tasks those of a desktop computer, for example; internet web browsing, agenda managing, picture taking and video making at very good quality, email access, music playing, electronic book access, just to mention a few. Comparing Smartphones

...Case: Comparing Smartphones The two attributes that I find most important in a smartphone are the CPU speed and the internal storage. I believe CPU speed is highly important for a smartphone because that is how fast it will function. The CPU speed is basically the brains in electronics and allows programs to run and operate. Having a fast phone will allow you to carry out your tasks in a timely manner and be able to look up things without crashing. The internal storage is important in a smartphone because it will allow a person to have a lot of data on their phone. It will allow a person to have many files, photos, and videos that all can be stored right on their phone. The iPhone 5 ranks the lowest, according to the selected attributes for smartphones. It is the most expensive and in every attribute is the lowest except one attribute which is the weight, so it is the lightest smartphone. It is the most expensive at $649 in comparison to the other smartphones being priced ranging from $449 to $579. That makes the iPhone 5 about $100 more expensive, yet it is basically the lowest ranked with respect to the selected attributes. In some attributes like CPU speed and the megapixels of the camera it is close to the other phones listed. According to the table given with attributes of smartphones I believe that iPhone 5 is not well positioned compared to the competitors. The iPhone 5 is the lowest ranking in every category listed except for the weight of the phone itself...

...Smartphone Technology on United States Economy AP Economics/ Period 4 Mr. Dolgin November 14, 2013 As a country now surrounded by many devices and companies associated with technology, probably the first piece of that technology that has launched America to where it is now is the Smartphone. But what has it done for us since it first came out? With the recent increase in technological innovation among phones, consumers have been buying and upgrading their cell phones whenever they please. This has led to the Smartphone-producing companies’ stocks to increase. It has also led to a big rise in jobs in the job economy. The Smartphone has also made itself very valuable and wanted by consumers. Since Smartphone technology is prominent in the daily lives of everyone, I see the tech-device having a positive effect on the United States Economy by increasing growth and welfare on the companies and consumers. Since the time the Smartphone was introduced, many stock values for technology-savvy companies have risen. According to The Denver Post, Apple’s success from the iPhone since its launch in 2007 has made the company get the title of “the most valuable company in American History” due to Apple’s stocks and what the company is worth. With the iPhone constantly upgrading and consumers buying the product, the value of Apple continues to accelerate. The stock market as a whole has definitely risen since 2007. According to Bryan Borzykowski from BBC, since...
