SOC 300 Week 10 Discussion 09/08/2014

"Act Local" Please respond to the following: * Based on the lecture and Webtext materials, address the following: * Select one developing country, and discuss the fundamental actions that the leadership of the selected country is—or is not—taking to improve the living standards of its people. Next, using this same country, cite one specific example of progress or regress that its government is making in terms of the economy, the political system, and the environment.
India is a developing third world country with poor leadership. Although the same leadership has been in place for years, the people of India welfare is not government’s primary concern. There is a great disparity between the rich and poor. India’s government is not providing enough measures to insure that proper education and jobs are available to the people of India. Because the government is corrupt, the people of India are suffering and poverty will always be a never ending cycle.
Some of India has experienced political, economic and environment advancements. There has been tremendous growth in the literacy rates. The Chief Master Gujarat has implemented steps to advance industrialization. Delhi’s government has also taken measures to make the Capitol is a cultural attraction. Government has also taken steps to reduce traffic which reduces pollution by urging its citizens to use the metro or the monorails. Retail has also increase with the building of malls. This will produce jobs which stimulates the economy as well.

Effect of Npk (15:15:15) on Tomato

...Emir. J. Food Agric. 2009. 21 (1): 10-20 http://cfa.uaeu.ac.ae/ejfa.shtml 10 Growth and yield of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill) as influenced by poultry manure and NPK fertilizer A. O. Adekiya1 and T. M. Agbede2 1Department of Crop, Soil and Pest Management, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria; 2Department of Agricultural Engineering Technology, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, Nigeria Abstract: Four field trials were conducted during the years 2006 and 2007 at Owo, the forest- savanna transition zone in southwest Nigeria, to study the effect of poultry manure (PM), NPK 15-15-15 fertilizer and NPK 15-15-15 fertilizer + poultry manure on the growth and yield of tomato. Seven treatments were applied to the soil: 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 t ha-1 poultry manure , 300 kg ha-1 NPK 15-15-15 fertilizer and 150 kg ha-1 NPK 15-15-15 fertilizer + 10 t ha-1 poultry manure. These were laid out in a randomized complete block design and replicated three times. The treatments were compared on the basis of their effect on soil chemical properties, leaf nutrient content, growth and yield of tomato. All levels of poultry manure and NPK 15-15-15 fertilizer + poultry manure increased leaf N, P, K, Ca and Mg levels. The soil chemical properties except pH increased with amount of poultry manure. NPK 15-15-15 fertilizer alone did not increase the soil and leaf Ca and Mg. All levels of poultry manure, NPK 15-15-15 fertilizer alone and NPK 15-15-15 fertilizer + poultry manure...

Lipoic Acid

...Lipoic acid, or more technically alpha-lipoic acid, is an increasingly recognized dietary supplement that has demonstrated a variety of beneficial effects. Lipoic acid occurs naturally in small amounts in the body where it is involved in a variety of processes but is primarily important in aerobic metabolism and various enzymatic actions. Lipoic acid is known to be involved in the energy-producing processes in cells. Lipoic acid is found in many foods, including liver, kidney, and heart meat and in broccoli, spinach, beets, yeast, yams, carrots, and potatoes. Scientists discovered lipoic acid in the 1950s, but the importance of this compound and its critical role as an antioxidant in the body was not defined until 1988. Lipoic acid is readily converted in the body to another compound called dihydrolipoic acid. Dihydrolipoic acid, or R-Dihydrolipoic acid, is the reduced form of lipoic acid that has more immediate effects than lipoic acid and has even more significant antioxidant effects than lipoic acid. Both of these antioxidants are particularly effective in destroying free radicals known as peroxynitrite radicals. These damaging compounds contain both oxygen and nitrogen and have been implicated in the development of chronic inflammation, nervous system diseases, pulmonary diseases, and arteriosclerosis. Lipoic acid acts as an antioxidant in the body and has been shown to have protective effects against nerve damage in diabetics, among other beneficial effects. Lipoic acid...

(1967) A retrospective view of An introduction to weather and climate derivatives John E. Thornes University of Birmingham The weather derivatives market has grown from being virtually non-existent in 1997 (Price Waterhouse Coopers 2001) to an estimated $10 billion global market by 2002. The market in Europe is just beginning to take off, as indicated by the establishment of the Met Office and London-based Umbrella Brokers’ joint venture WeatherXchange (www.weather xchange.com) in June 2001 and the Londonbased Liffe (www.liffeweather.com) weather futures market and European weather index in July 2001. These two Internet sites give a good introduction to the basic concepts of weather derivatives. Since the early 1980s, derivatives have been used by companies to manage their exposure to risk, be it due to currency exchanges or a host of other financial uncertainties. The financial derivatives markets are by far the biggest trading markets in the world, and derivatives are the most...

Sociology

...Karl Heinrich Marx Week 10 Final Assignment Strayer University SOC 300 Sociology of Developing Countries Professor Muhammad Terry Cheek 6/13/2013 I have decided to write a paper on Karl Marx because I think some of his views were interesting and had some truth to it but only to a certain degree. I am just voicing my opinion on his views and I think when reading about his ideals and philosophies you have to keep in mind that the world was a different place at that time also. I do believe he was a brilliant man and had a huge amount of courage to continue to write what he believed in even though it brought a great deal of hardships into his life. I will briefly discuss his upbringings, his education, philosophies, and some of the literature he wrote. I urge anyone to read his works and learn more about him as a person before passing judgment on him. Karl Heinrich Marx was one of nine children born to Heinrich and Henrietta Marx in Trier, Prussia. His father was a successful lawyer who revered Kant and Voltaire, and was a passionate activist for Prussian reform. Although both parents were Jewish with rabbinical ancestry, Karl’s father converted to Christianity in 1816 at the age of 35. This was likely a professional concession in response to an 1815 law banning Jews from high society. He was baptized a Lutheran, rather than a Catholic, which was the predominant faith in Trier, because he “equated Protestantism with intellectual freedom.” When he was 6, Karl was baptized...

Hedonic Shopping Motivations

...The current issue and full text archive of this journal is available at www.emeraldinsight.com/1355-5855.htm Hedonic shopping motivations, supermarket attributes, and shopper loyalty in transitional markets Evidence from Vietnam Trang T.M. Nguyen Hedonic shopping motivations 227 Received February 2006 Revised July 2006 Accepted August 2006 Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Tho D. Nguyen and Nigel J. Barrett School of Marketing, University of Technology, Sydney, Australia Abstract Purpose – This study aims to explore the impact of hedonic shopping motivations (HSM) and supermarket attributes (SMA) on shopper loyalty (SLO). Design/methodology/approach – A sample of 608 supermarket shoppers in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam was surveyed to test the model. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data. Findings – It was found that SMA and HSM had positive effects on SLO. It was also found that the impact of hedonic motivations on SLO was different between the younger and older, as well as lower and higher income groups of customers. However, no such difference was found between female and male shoppers. Research limitations/implications – A major limitation of this study was the use of a sample drawn from one transitional market. Cross-national samples will be a direction for further research. Also, the study focuses on attitudinal loyalty. Behavioral loyalty should be taken into account in future research. Practical...
