Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?

There were only three minutes left in the game. The score was tied and we were determined to score the winning goal of the tournament. Tension was building up when I heard the referee blow his whistle; the other team had fouled and it was our free kick. This was the perfect chance for us as we had practiced similar plays multiple times. My teammate would kick the soccer ball towards the right post of the goal and that would be my opportunity. With a strategic little body fake, I avoided a defender and ran towards the goal, just as she took the kick. As I was running, I could envision the play; the ball would hit the ground and I would be standing right there, ready to send it flying into the goal.
As the ball bounced in front of me, I tuned out everything around me, and kept my focus on nothing but the ball and the goal. All I had to do was wait for the right moment. I carefully lifted up my leg and swung it towards the ball. In that moment, it felt so natural to make contact with the ball. It flew unstoppably into the goal, sending ripples though the net. Barely a moment passed before the crowd went wild! Their roars, cheers and chants filled the air as they stood on their toes to see the reactions on the field. At that moment, I knew I had the biggest smile on my face. My teammates ran and jumped on top of me. I heard my friends in the crowd chanting my name, I felt my sweat drip down my forehead, I saw the look of happiness on my coach’s face and I was overwhelmed with a feeling of belonging.
Moving to India eight years ago, it was not easy adapting to the multitude of changes after having been raised in California. I often longed for my friends

...Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. It may not seem like it because football is most popular in North America but soccer is the most popular sport in the world. My perspective is that if there were more soccer stadiums, more federations, and more soccer associations in the United States it might be more popular than football is in North America. Soccer is probably very popular because it is the first team sport a kid will probably play in their life because football and baseball are for kids a little older as they are more dangerous sports. Because soccer is as popular as it is all other brands are trying to get in on the sales of shin-guards, cleats, socks, and soccer balls. Adidas was originally the first major brand for soccer, now Nike is trying to get a piece of the sales, and also Underarmour is starting to make its way into soccer merchandise. Soccer is a very easily understood and exciting sport. A soccer game can change in a matter of 30 seconds. When in a football game it can take some time. Soccer is an easily likable sport and it is easily understood. Soccer is more exciting than any other sport as there are no boundaries on what you could do. The only boundary is fouling and that you can’t use your hands. Soccer is an attention-grabbing sport and it can be easily played. All you need are shoes and a soccer ball. Other sports you would need a hoop or a field and soccer is more easily played. There are hundreds of soccer stadiums in Europe and other...

USccer: The History Of US Soccer

...How Technology Has Revolutionized US Soccer: The History of US Soccer Imagine 100 years ago part-time players who were not dedicated to soccer representing the United States, compared to present day where some of the best players in the world extensively travel the world and compete exclusively for the United States. One of the main reasons the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) performance has changed is due to advances in technology. One-hundred years ago soccer was almost non-existent in the United States. There were no youth soccer leagues, much less a professional one. The predominant youth sport in the US was baseball. There are youth soccer leagues all over the United States now because soccer has become much more popular. With...

...the ball curve: Soccer players can make the ball curve by applying a Force, kicking, to the ball that is not in the center of the ball itself. When the ball is struck on the side by a player the ball spins while it is moving forward. In the case of the picture below, the soccer ball was struck on the right side of the ball and is spinning counter-clockwise. What causes the ball to actually curve in the air is a difference in the pressures on either side of the soccer ball. On the left side of this soccer ball, the air is moving faster, than the right side, relative to the center of the ball. This causes a lower pressure to develop on the left side of the ball, while on the right side there is a higher pressure because the air flow is moving slower relative to the center of the ball. This difference in air pressure causes the ball to curve to the left during its flight path. This curve is known as the Magnus Effect after the physicist Gustav Magnus. The shape of the soccer ball is…round! But in mathematical terms, the soccer ball is usually in the shape of an Archimedean Solid. This solid has 32 faces, 12 are pentagons and 20 are hexagons. On the Apollo 17 mission astronauts played soccer with a 200 pound moon rock. Just imagine playing any sport with something that heavy…ouch! There are many different soccer balls in use today. ...differences but there is one thing that links us all. This is what we all know as 'sports'. Sports are a way of life in many nationalities and cultures. Sports are a way to get away from the everyday works and hassles of life. There are numerous varieties in sport but there is one sport that is known in every corner of the world...and this sport is 'soccer'. Soccer is a sport that is played in every continent in the world, it is the one and only sport without borders. This is so, because soccer is a sport which all can participate and enjoy in, all can be as one. Soccer is also a sport that doesn't really need many components. One may get a couple of people together and a round ball and start kicking it around and that may be considered soccer. Cost efficiency is one of the major reasons soccer has grown and still is growing throughout the world. Soccer is the most exciting sport because its action is non-stop, because its skills are impressive and because it demands such high loyalty. Firstly, in this entertaining game the action is continuous and never ending. The game consists of 90 minutes in total or two halves of 45 minutes. In soccer, the time always keeps on ticking and it isn't affected by the blowing of a whistle or by the call of a penalty. Even when there is an injury, the time keeps on ticking and the only person that prolongs the match is the referee himself, who has his own watch and can add 'injury' time to the 90 minute match. This helps a lot in keeping the action...

The match ended in a 1-0 victory to the Ireland, but France had won the away much by the same result which meant extra time was needed to decide a winner. In over time Henry involuntary handled the ball cleverly before playing a square ball across for Gallas who headed the ball home for the goal. ...Soccer Essay Soccer is the number one sport in the world, people do not realize this, because they do not think of the third world countries that do not necessarily have enough money to have more then something simple as a soccer ball. In this essay I will talk about the rules of offside, the game of soccer, and the rule of slide tackling. First, there are many rules in soccer, because it is a very complex game. One of the most important rules is offside. Offiside is the rule that comes into play when the Ball is kicked by and offensive player. If the other offensive player is past the last defender on there half of the field. Then the AR will throw up his flag signaling to the center ref. that there has been an offside offense. In this time the opposing team will get a free kick. Next, the game of soccer is played in most countries around the world. Whether or not these countries are poor or stable it is still a big sport. There are two sides to soccer, the offence and the defense. The offence is trying to get down the filed, and put the ball past the keeper into the opposing teams net. The defenses side is to try and prevent the offence from netting the ball. Finally, one of the biggest, and most important ways of tackling is slide tackling. There is an illegal way of slide tackling, which is when you either do not touch the ball, or you slide in with your cleat facing up. Slide tackling in this form will resort in a red card, which suspends you from the present...

...configurations during the 1980s. This type of stadium is associated with an era of suburbanization, in which many sports teams followed their fans out of large cities into areas with cheaper, plentiful land. They were usually built near highways and had large parking lots but were rarely connected to public transit. As multi-purpose stadiums were rarely ideal for both sports usually housed in them, they had fallen out of favor by the 1990s. With the completion of the Truman Sports Complex in Kansas City in 1973, a model for purpose-built stadiums was laid down. Since Oriole Park at Camden Yards opened in 1992, most major league sports stadiums have been built specifically for one sport. Outside North America, the term is rarely used, since soccer is the only major outdoor team sport in many countries; in...

...ball. I have lost sight of it in the sun. I close my eyes and hear the ball sliding on the side net. I glanced up and I start cheering. Jumping up and down, I just won the game for the team. I love soccer because, it involves a lot of running and skill, I have been playing soccer since I was a wee lad, and it involves team effort. Soccer I think is the most energetic sport ever. Soccer is amazing to me. People call us field fairies but it takes a lot more skill than you think. I love running, it’s my obsession. I run outside of school almost every day. About 6 miles a day. But enough about running. That’s what makes soccer the greatest sport ever to me. The skill in soccer takes along time to master. I don’t even think you can master soccer. There are so many new things I learn at practice every day. The skill you need to play soccer it just over the top. When you first play soccer, like first ever in your life your thinking wow, this is a lot more tricky than I thought it would be. I know that’s what I was thinking when I first played. Since I was five I have been playing soccer and I first started I played with the YMCA. After that I played with a youth soccer club and that is for anybody who wants to try soccer or maybe just keep playing soccer. Ever since I played soccer I have loved it and when I was little I had no clue what I was doing at the time. Now I have progressed a lot and know what I’m doing. My first year I played, I had a goal and it was a very good goal...

...The various codes of football share certain common elements. Players in American football, Canadian football, rugby union and rugby league take-up positions in a limited area of the field at the start of the game.[7] They tend to use throwing and running as the main ways of moving the ball, and only kick on certain limited occasions. Body tackling is a major skill, and games typically involve short passages of play of 5–90 seconds.[7] Association football, Australian rules football and Gaelic football tend to use kicking to move the ball around the pitch, with handling more limited. Body tackles are less central to game, and players are more free to move around the field (offside laws are typically less strict).[7] Common rules among the sports include:[citation needed] Two teams of usually between 11 and 18 players; some variations that have fewer players (five or more per team) are also popular. A clearly defined area in which to play the game. Scoring goals or points, by moving the ball to an opposing team's end of the field and either into a goal area, or over a line. Goals or points resulting from players putting the ball between two goalposts. The goal or line being defended by the opposing team. Players being required to move the ball—depending on the code—by kicking, carrying, or hand-passing the ball. Players using only their body to move the ball. In all codes, common skills include passing, tackling, evasion of tackles, catching and kicking.[7] In most codes...
