Community development is a way of stregnthening civil society by prioritising the actions of communities and their perspective in development of social, economic and environmental policy:(scdc.org.uk). Community development is all about changes and growth, its work involves communities and also industries that concerns them, The centre focus of community development is to work with people inorder to help improve their quality of life in regards to decision making with the things that concerns them and bringing people together to find ways of solving problems and identify their own needs and aspirations; As Gilchrist and Taylor (2011;9) points out that the fundamental aim of community development is to boost the effective of community participation and capacity.
This assignment will focus on different ways that community development work can be translated in the community inorder to improve on how individuals can work and learn together also ways in which equality and anti-discrimination can be practised more so that it can be more effectives within the lives of the community. There are five key principles of Community Development National Occupational Standard (CD NOS); theres are Equality and Anti-discrimination, Social justice, Collective action, Community empowerment and Working and learning together. Within these qualities two will be the centre focus, it will highlight ways of progresstion and different actions which can help to imput change and ideas for the community to a better place for all individuals involved.
Equality and and anti-discrimination: The aim of a practitioner is to stand against opression and exclusion individuals and groups from any walk of life. Inequality and discrimination happens all over, It could be the community one lives, a work environment even education institutes. There are many ways of challegnging such issues from becoming a major factor that will continue to divide communities, the first thing is to identify who is who in the surrounding that you work; this can only be done by engaging with the community, when you give time to get to know the people, understand the way in which they operate and conduct their lives which will identify why they may be outcasts and discriminated against within the community. Community engagement helps to make sure that: public services reflect and respond to the views and concerns of local people; Everyone within the community feel involved in and responsible for improving their quality of life; and solutions work over a long term.
A community development practition ought to be able to spot out those who are excluded and singled out and refuse the treatments by supporting anti-oppressive policies and practice, this can be performed as in a case where a teenager in a mix secondary school is gay however he has not come out due to being afraid of how the other pupils will treat him worse than they already do because of the way in which he acts, hang around with females and his conducts himself get many people to suspect him and bully him for it, this is discrimination at first hand also unequality towards his choice of life. In this case a practitioner should inflict on promoting respect and a sense of value of all types of people in assemblys so that these young pupils learn how to respect and value diversity and difference even if they come from a back groung that those not believe in homosexuals this allows the pupils to accept the which are differnt to them and there is less bullying happening rather building more confident individuals. Maintaing a good working partnership and nurturing positive relations between people builds a foundation for community developmet, it helps to have a better relationship with the people of the community by helping highlight the different natures of society such as religious beliefs come together and build a solidarity amoungst themselves through socializing and relating to one another. Collective action is traditionally defined as any action aiming to improve the group’s conditions, which is enacted by a representative of the group. (wikipedia.com), Inorder to support and respect the rights of others when planing colletive action it is essential for a community developer to consider everyone by first informing them of the project that he or she plans to do then ask if it would effect anyone in a negative way which can offend them in anyway possible. For example in this situation in a community that people lives such as an housing estste and one plans to do a local carnival party for the neighbourhood which will include topless male, women in reavealing clothing, knowing that the area includes people from different religious belief inorder to respect the rights of others, Everyone in the neighbourhood should be informed in advance of what will happen and if the community is not in agreement of the party, then their views should be considered either the change the theme of the carnival or by instructed all who would be involved to wear appropriate clothing so that everyone is comfortable as it would be at their door step; this is respecting others rights in collective actions. The main purpose of community development is to enable people to work together in eqalitarian and domestic ways to develop collective solutions to shared problems; This is why community workers are often instrumental in helping an informal network to elove into something more open, which is strucured to ensure access for all those who might benefit from the community, Gilchrist (1995;4).

Community work is a very challenging role as you have to study the community of choice, find out their needs and come to conclusion on how to assist and meet their various needs. This is where reflective practice plays a big role, it can help you understand you own intentions, values and visions and support you to work in a challenging field where your ethics and morals may be tested, where power relations may be decidedly unequal, and where you may be working in emotionally and physically demanding environments.
