I searched for the socioeconomic status at the school website and the district website and could not find the information I was looking for. The socioeconomic status that I researched and could find was from Campbell county website. The last time it was updated was 2005, Family income at this time was per capita personal income $27,979, Median Household income $53,050. In 2007 last update 27,446 were employed and 866 where unemployed. I even spoke to the principal at ................. elementary and she was unsure where I could find this information. The information that I found for student achievement tests for ............ is in 2010-2011. School population is 665 this testing year and the school made AYP status. In 2009-2010 out of 100 students 85 passed the all testing. This is the only information that I could find on the schools website. For Leesville alone there was no information provided for actual student achievement scores. I did find in an article from 2010 scores where down county wide over 22 percent. Of course there is a hope that testing scores would be high and they should. But I am sure there are a lot of factors to this decline. Three research hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The study was correlational because the study sought to establish extend of relationship between broken homes and academic achievement. Reliable and validated questionnaires which were designed to elicit information on the hypotheses of study were used. Six senior secondary schools were randomly selected for the study. One hundred and fifty respondents from single parent homes were used for the study. 25 respondents were randomly selected from six schools. Results showed a significant relationship between broken homes and academic achievement of students. Learning to read is of course anything but a race, but getting a good start is as vital in learning to read as it is in any race. Children who fall behind in school at an early age seldom catch up. Studies have found that children who were classified as poor readers at the end of first grade had an 88% chance of being poor readers at the end of fourth grade (Jenkins & Vadasy, 2000). Countless studies have been conducted to determine the effect of parental involvement on students reading achievement. Observations and interviews suggested that parental activity increased children’s reading skill acquisition or enthusiasm, which, resulted in success in reading. All results indicated that parental involvement in reading has a considerable impact on students reading achievement. The sample consists of 102 males and 98 females in age range of 15 to 19 from five higher secondary schools of Lucknow city Uttar Pradesh (India).Socio economic status scale developed by R.L.Bharadwaj (2005) was used for data collection, while the total mark obtained by the students in the previous class i.e. standard X was used as an achievement criteria. Mean(M),Standard Deviation(S.D),Standard Error of the mean(S.E.M),t-test were used. This study shows that gender does not influence the achievement in science at higher secondary school (Standard -XI) level. Also the result of this study showed the difference between high and low socio-economic status groups. It is found that the academic achievement was influenced by the socio-economic status and those who belonged to high socio-economic status showed better performance. School Facility Conditions and Student Academic Achievement Abstract This paper shows that the condition of school facilities has an important impact on student performance and teacher effectiveness. In particular, research demonstrates that comfortable classroom temperature and noise level are very important to efficient student performance. The age of school buildings is a useful proxy in this regard, since older facilities often have problems with thermal environment and noise level. A number of studies have measured overall building condition and its connection to student performance; these have consistently shown that students attending schools in better condition outperform students in substandard buildings by several percentage points. School building conditions also influence teacher effectiveness. Teachers report that physical improvements greatly enhance the teaching environment. Finally, school overcrowding also makes it harder for students to learn; this effect is greater for students from families of low socioeconomic status.
