INTRODUCTION
The infantry soldier of tomorrow promises to be one of the most technologically advanced modern warfare has ever seen. Around the world various research programs are currently being conducted, such as the United States future force warrior (FFW) and the United Kingdom’s future infantry soldier technology (FIST), with the aim of creating fully integrated combat systems. Alongside vast improvements in protective and weaponry subsystems, another major aspect of this technology will be thee ability to provide information superiority at the operational edge of military networks by equipping the dismounted soldier with advanced visual, voice and data communications. Helmet mounted visors, capable of displaying , maps and real-time video from other squad members, ranges of physiological sensors monitoring heart rate, core body temperature etc. these devices will improve situational awareness, not only for the host, but also for collocated military personnel who will exchange information using wireless networks. The challenge was to integrate these piecemeal components into a lightweight package that could achieve the desired result without being too bulky and cumbersome or requiring too much power. One of the fundamental challenges in military operations lays that the soldiers are not able to communicate with control room station. In addition, the proper navigation between soldier organizations plays important role for careful planning and coordination. So in this paper we focus on tracking the location of soldier from GPS, which is useful for control room station to know the exact location of soldier and accordingly they will guide them. Also high speed, short range, soldier to soldier wireless communication to relay information on situational

...Chapter 3 Question 2 Some risks involved in a systems analysis and design project are critical resource availability, the potential of new technology and unfamiliarity of use, user resistance to change and regulatory constraints. A project manager copes with as well as prepares for the risk with good communication, detailed assessments and supporting information to show the concerns have been addressed. Question 4 An inventory tracking system for jewelry is a very challenging one and has its own complexities because jewelers usually adopt the system of tracking inventory based on traditions that have been followed for years together very successfully. These are generally very common sense based approaches and the owner of the store has his own special ways of tracking inventory. With technology in use there are many ways on which inventory can be tracked. The traditional systems are quite good and have been held to be in perfect order and jewelers are used to that old system of tracking for inventory. My initial approach to the project would be to speak with management about their wants regarding the inventory tracking system to determine what their likes and dislikes are of their current system as well as discuss with them future needs and expectations of the new system. My first activity would be to then review the current system specifications. Chapter 4 Question 1 I believe that current resources available is important for first phase because this can save you...

Aircraft Tracking Technology

...The decision on whether to build or purchase the software system we currently need revolved around several factors. The first factor considered is, what we need the system to do for us. We need a system that will track training flights, ground and simulator events, maintain instructor comments and recommendations for each student, and provide a comprehensive overview for tracking student progress. With the needs of the system recognized we can now develop a build vs buy comparison. If the system were to be built in-house it would require a dedicated IT department, and those human resources are not currently available. This would require us to hire additional people to support this project making this a time consuming and expensive endeavor. With the option of building the system in-house proving to have a high risk factor and expense we researched the purchase option. After conducting research we found there is an abundant amount of software already on the market that can be customized to fit the size and complexity of almost any organization in the aviation market. With the cost of developing our own system, and the vast availability of software that is readily available on the market, I think it would be a prudent choice to go with the buy option to remedy this issue. We are prepared to send letters, such as the following, to companies requesting information, demonstration, and estimates for instruction, installation and service of their software which fit our needs. ...

Sales Inventory System

... 1.1 Introduction Sales inventory systems are often standardised i.e. A business will adopt a general model for their own use. This means that they are able to track sales of a product and match it against their existing inventory to regulate how much stock they keep to hand and how much it costs them to do so. Obviously this is necessary for any business in order to run efficiently. Sales and Inventory Control is an inventory tracking system that gives you up-to-the-minute detailed information on each item in your inventory. You'll know exactly how much inventory comes in, how much is on-hand now, and where it goes. While manual methods may have their place, most entrepreneurs these days find that computerizing gives them a far wider range of information with far less effort. Sales and inventory programs now on the market let you track usage, monitor changes in unit costs, calculate when you need to reorder, and analyze inventory levels on an item-by-item basis. Indeed, automation process or electronic-based operations have invaded every work place. It is being employed into operational activities to be able to simplify all related activities and operations. Every business owner wants to know which product sells the most, which customer’s or client’s buys frequently, how much inventory is on hand, and what method is preferred by customer when paying and how much did they actually sell on a particular day. The sales and Inventory system is software that manages incoming and...

...What are the inputs, processing, and outputs of UPS’s package tracking system? The goal is to have detailed information about the sender, destination and when the package should arrive. Even before the package is picked up, information from the "smart" label is transmitted to one of the UPS computer centers and then sent to the closest center for the destination, they even download it and create the most efficient delivery route. The first thing a UPS driver picks up each day is a handheld computer called a Delivery Information Acquisition Device (DIAD), which they can log into and download the route, it's then uploaded for storage that takes less than a minute and processing and can be accessed worldwide for proof or customer queries. Because of these things what UPS has done is made the delivery as efficient as possible and highly monitored by both them and their customers. Basically storing all different information such as the destination, the time it should arrive as well as the customers information. What technologies are used by UPS? How are these technologies related to UPS’s business strategy? Now the second question asks how the technology relates to their business strategy, and the only thing i could find regarding their business strategy is one quote from 1907 that promised: “The best service and lowest rates.” So with that in mind lets start with the scannable bar-coded label. It attached to a package which we already mentioned contains important...

Google and Apple Know Where You Are, Maybe

...Introduction We live in a society where it is simply impossible to live without your smartphone tracking your location. There are various ways that location-based tracking is utilized on smartphones for good purposes; but what about the not so good purposes? People make very good use of the tracking software located on smartphone from looking up directions to a hotel to checking the local traffic updates while in route to work. And when completing these tasks, they may not know that those locations are actually being stored in the smart phone. The stored list of locations can be used to send out local ads or be used to target that individual. One must be aware of location-based tracking software located on smartphones. Location-based Tracking Apps There are many different applications that use location-based tracking. However, I only use two on my Android. The two that I use is GPS Navigator and Point. I only use GPS Navigator when I need directions to a particular place or need traffic updates when I am out of town. I use Point to find local restaurants, shops, movies, and businesses when I travel out of town. I do not use them very often. However, after using those applications, I un-install any updates for those apps and clear all cache on my phone. This will delete any saved information that was logged. Adventure

...carefully examined the outcomes of the JAD session that focused on defining the system structure of the WebStore. From this analysis, he identified six highlevel processes that would become the foundation of the level-0 DFD. These processes, listed in Table 6-4, were the “work” or “action” parts of the Web site; note that these processes correspond to the major processing items listed in the system structure. Next, Jim determined that it would be most efficient if the WebStore system exchanged information with existing PVF systems rather than capturing and storing redundant information. This analysis concluded that the Web- Store should exchange information with the Purchasing Fulfillment System—a system for tracking orders (discussed in Chapter 3)—and the Customer Tracking System (discussed in Chapter 4). These two existing systems will be “sources” (providers) and “sinks” (receivers) of information for the WebStore system. When a customer opens an account, his or her information will be passed from the WebStore system to the Customer Tracking System. When an order is placed (or when a customer requests status information on a prior order), information will be stored in and retrieved from the Purchasing Fulfillment System. Finally, Jim found that the system would need to access two additional data sources. First, in order to produce an online product catalog, the system would need to access the inventory database. Second, to store the items a customer wants...

Management Information Systems - Ups Case Study

...package tracking system? There are two sides to UPS's package tracking system: the external, customer-oriented side, and the internal company and employee oriented side. The input starts with customer with the creation of a scannable bar-coded “smart” label which can be done from the UPS website or using a special software provided by UPS, both accessible via the internet. These labels will contain data about the sender, the destination, and package arrival times. This data is received by UPS's central computer for processing and the information is then forwarded to one of their distribution centers where logistical planning will occur. UPS drivers are given a handheld Delivery Information Acquisition Device (DIAD) which can immediately record and upload pickup and delivery information and pictures of recipient signature to the UPS network, called UPSnet, for storing and processing. The data being sent from the DIAD is gathered from the scannable label on packages, recipient signatures captured, time card info, satellite feed of traffic patterns and changing schedules. Finally, all this information's outputs will include the UPS intranet available company-wide to distribution centers, customer service centers, etc., and the internet via UPS's website or embedded UPS functions within corporate customer's own websites. What technologies are used by UPS? How are these technologies related to UPS's business strategy? The technologies at UPS include bar code scanning systems, wireless...

Riordan Manufacturing

...corporation are plastics and containers. Currently, their Inventory tracking systems, Network, communications line, and Green Initiatives are the only areas of improvement we currently track for Riordan Manufacturing. As a whole, their operation is in complete working order, although certain enhancements will smooth the flow of information and the ability to track parts and raw materials. Network enhancements will be required to accept the new systems. Communications lines will be enhanced to offer VTC (Video Teleconferencing) in order to prevent the need for physical travel between manufacturing plants. These enhancements will cut down on the need for personnel and travel compensation. Our overall goal is to provide Riordan with a system not only capable of making a series of tedious operations easier and faster to accomplish, but enhance communication ability for management between work sites. Currently Riordan has a decent setup for their day to day operations. Our proposed enhancements will only require an additional server to act as a permanent database operator, bar code scanners and printers to keep track of incoming and outgoing inventories. The barcode scanners we have chosen come with tracking software for inventory management (WASP). It also has the capability of communicating with our database software in order to make reports available from VPN anywhere in the world. Understandably, the systems will need enhanced security with the large amounts of information...

Innovation Increases Plumbers Productivity and Efficiency

...INTRODUCTION, BACKGROUND, PROBLEM The purpose of this report was to provide a review of current tracking alternatives. INTRODUCTION Companies in the plumbing industry may use a unique service or product that will help differentiate them from competitors. Technology, nowadays, has become a ubiquitous tool that can be tailored to a company and help thrive in customer intimacy, product leadership, or operational excellence. As a result, plumbing companies can deliver services more efficient and effective. Companies that have taken leadership positions in their industries have done so by focusing on delivering superior customer value in line with one of the three value disciplines-operational excellence, customer intimacy, or product leadership (Treacy, M, 1993). Innovation can be a critical success factor for Roto Plumber by bringing valuable assets to the company. For example, adopting tracking devices such as GPS to track vehicle location and displaying employee’s estimated time to complete job. Indeed, all plumbing companies are being forced to adapt to innovation (The Pipeline, 2013, p.4). Although not all efforts in innovation will succeed, it helps attract young people who in turn bring fresh ideas and opportunities to the company. The effective use of tracking devices will help increase plumber’s productivity and efficiency.
