DEFINITION:

Linear correlation coefficient r : measures the strength of the linear relationship between the paired x and y – quantitative data in a sample. Its value is computed using formula 10-1.

Example : Using the sample data below, find the value of the linear coefficient r.

| |x |y |x•y |x2 |y2 |
| |3 |5 | | | |
| |1 |8 | | | |
| |3 |6 | | | |
| |5 |4 | | | |

#### Son of Satan

...Analysis and interpretation of Charles Bukowski’s short story “Son of Satan”. Rebellious behavior of today’s youth and vulgar vocabulary in early age can be developed by domestic violence, economic hardship and the loneliness caused by paternal indifference. This short story shows how important a good parenting and upbringing is and to maintain an image in front of your child, because the fact is that you become like your parents. The short story takes place in America and the reader gets the impression that the event takes place some sort of suburbs a day which seems like a nice hot summer day: “…and it was summer, no school, and we sat on the grass in the sun behind my father’s garage…”(1 line2) The short story starts in media res and as reader you are thrown into the middle of things without previous introduction to the characters and events. You only get a very short introduction to the three boys, the protagonist, Hass and Morgan, who are the main characters of the story and to the settings which makes it easier for the reader to paint a mental picture of the three. The short story is build chronologically and probably stretches from the middle of the day until early evening. It could take place at any time. It is written in 1st person narrator and is told in past tense. It makes you get into the head of an 11-year-old boy who is also the protagonist. #### Cuban Son

...John Gibson Latin Rhythms and Dance Cuban Son The Cuban Son, both a dancing and singing style, combines both African and Cuban elements and serves as the foundation for salsa music today. The term ‘Son’ literally means sound and traces its roots back to the 16th century. However, the more contemporary version of the Son did not appear until the late 19th century in Cuba. Historically, the Son played an important role in detailing different news events from the countryside, so its societal function was undoubtedly significant. Although the modern form of the Cuban Son dates back to the mid-19th century, it was not until the early 20th century when the Son was enthusiastically accepted by Cuban society. Prior to this acceptance, the “Danzon” was the most popular type of dance in Cuba and could be found virtually everywhere in Cuba, widely accepted by all social classes. However, the appearance of the Son in Cuba during the early 1900’s quickly overtook the Danzon as the most popular national music. And although the Son had many of the same elements present in the Danzon, it varied distinctly in form and instruments. Nonetheless, the Son’s popularity was clearly defined by the formation and success of the Sexteto Habanero, the many prizes they received, their trips abroad, their recordings, their famous Sons and their participation in many popular films. The Son orchestra was initially composed of only claves, maracas, and guitar but later expanded to include tres and......

#### How to Be a Good Son or Daughter

...or some people are good sons or daughters even though their parents are bad. A good son or daughter should have certain qualities. Being hard working, sympathetic, and respectful of parents are the most important qualities of a good son or daughter. First of all, a good son or daughter should be a hard working person. A good child usually makes parents happy, and parents are happy when their children do what they are supposed to do. For example, if a child is a student, she is supposed to study hard. If she studies hard, whether she gets good grade or not, her parents are pleased with her. In addition, in Vietnam we value children as good sons or daughters when they do not make their parents worry about them. For instance, a boy after graduation from a university got a job and worked hard. Although he did not get a good—paying job, he earned enough to take care of himself. That boy is a good son because he is self—reliant and his parents don’t have to worry about him. Being hard working has remained the same over time in my culture. Additionally, to be sympathetic is one of the most important qualities of a good child. Parents who have to work hard to feed their children are usually tired after a long day. As a result, they sometimes get angry easily and may overreact with their children very small mistakes. If their children were sympathetic, they would understand and would not hate or think that parents don’t love them. Moreover, if sons or daughters understand......

The Sons of Liberty was an organization of American colonists that was created to protect the rights of the colonist and to fight taxation that was coming from the British. One of their biggest contributions was that they protested against the Stamp Act which was created to tax printed materials. The name of the site that I will be using is http://www.bostonteapartyship.com/sons-of-liberty. This website that I am using on my assignment is associated with both a virtual and physical museum located in Boston Massachusetts. After doing some research on the website, I could not find any information that related to any missions or purposes but it did mention who the provider of the site was. On the website, it says “this page was developed with the help of one of our great cast members here at the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum.” On the bottom of the page, there is a picture of another contributor to the website. That is MCCA, which stands for Massachusetts Convention Center Authority. On the main page of the website I am writing about, there is no audio or video material but there are other links that can be clicked on and are accessible to watch learning videos on the Sons of Liberty and other events around that period in time. #### Sons of Liberty

...4/12/2012 By: Derek Putnam | | The Sons of Liberty | | The Sons of Liberty | The Sons of Liberty used their power and influence to manipulate popular opinion, thereby inciting the public to act against the laws and control of England. They were one of the most influential groups behind the American Revolution. The start of the Sons of Liberty is something of a mystery. The group always met in secret and it is disputed where it all began. Some say it started in New York and some will say under the leadership of Samuel Adams the Boston chapter was first. One thing is certain though, they all had the same goal, to organize public opinion and coordinate patriotic actions against Great Britain. The Sons of Liberty met at night so not to attract the British soldiers and to keep their activities secret until they felt it was time to make them public. One of the main reasons the groups were started was to protest and campaign against the Stamp Act. That was just the start of what the group would protest against and continue to fight for liberty against Britain. The Sons of Liberty name actually came from a speech given to parliament by Colonel Isaac Barre, “the behavior of Britain’s officials toward Americans on many occasions has caused the blood of those Sons of Liberty to recoil within them”, which wasn’t intended to imply disloyalty towards the crown but when word got back to the colonies and they saw his words they used them to their benefit. ......

#### Examples Of Father Son Relationship In The Odyssey

...Sierra Seibold Miss Orians English 9 8 February 2016 Like Father Like Son Nishan Panwar said, “Son needs his father at every situation he face in present and father needs his son at every situation he face for his son in past.” The quote shows that fathers need and will need help from their sons, the same way sons need help of their fathers. Fathers, like Laertes and Poseidon helped their sons, just like Telemachus helped his father, Odysseus. Father son relationships in the Odyssey are used for helping each other. Telemachus helped his father take his palace back and ridded of suitors. #### The Prodigal Son

...“THE PRODIGAL SON Luke 15:11-32 In the New Testament, there is a parable entitled “the lost son”. In this passage we begin to learn and understand the compassion and care that the Father feels for us, his sheep. We also get insight on the awakening that happens with the son. The parable of “the lost son” was written in the book of Luke. Although we don’t officially know who wrote this book it is believed to have been written by Luke which was a friend and close follower of Paul. The book of Luke gives us different details on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Included are numerous places he traveled and parables he used in which to get a lesson learned. It is also believed that Luke was written in the latter part of the first century, somewhere around Ephesus or Smyrna. This is important because it allows us to know the culture and geographical location in which Luke may have been influenced by in his writings and or interpretations of the teachings. There are a couple of words that are significant in this particular passage. These are lost and found. The denotation of the word lost is no longer in possession of; or the one I like to use is beyond reach, communication, or influence. This is important because it makes us aware of the state in which his son had been in for the last few years. The other is found, and its meaning is to bring into being, set up...
