The text (2013) identifies a job as being “a series of tasks or activities that are performed within the scope of what we call work.” Those tasks are done in exchange for payment; however there it lacks a sense of stability and security. Many individuals maintain jobs when they need income for everyday living expenses. A person that has a passion to work in the field of psychology can work as a cashier at a McDonald’s restaurant. A career is defined as “the integration of our personality with our job activities.” (Sukiennik, Raufman, & Bendat, 2013, p. 9)
The differentiation between what a job and a career is relates to my own career plans because I would definitely like to have a career in the future. I would appreciate for which ever career field that I become integrated into to be an area that I can utilize all of my skills and attributes in. I am currently pursuing a career in professional counseling specializing in adolescent counseling, and I believe that the skills that I have would allow me to be extremely effective. I am ready and willing to continue my pursuit in advancing my education in attempt to land where I am working towards. I want the long term stability that a career has the potential to provide.
After reading about Donald Super’s self-concept theory, I began to think more deeply about how I view myself as an individual, my own personal skills and characteristics, and what my true position in life could be. I soon realized that many of my traits could be quite helpful in the professional counseling field. I have gone through the career selection stages of growth and exploration, and I am currently at the establishment stage. (Sukiennik, Raufman, & Bendat, 2013) I am attending college and working as a teacher’s assistant. I have done some volunteer work as well in an attempt to earn experience for more growth in the field. The values that I believe to be the most important for my overall career satisfactory are; security, stability, education, structure, independence, family, helping others, and relationships.
My MBTI type is INFP; which stands for introvert, intuition, feeling judgment, and perception. (Sukiennik, Raufman, & Bendat, 2013) This type relates to my career because I am the kind of individual that enjoys working one on one with people, pay attention to the factual information, am aware of other people’s feelings, and deal easily with unplanned and unexpected happenings. All of these different qualities can be very useful in the career of counseling. My Holland type is social, and this relates to my career because it describes social individuals as being “sociable, responsible, and concerned with the welfare of others. They have little interest in machinery or physical skills.” (Sukiennik, Raufman, & Bendat, 2013, p. 67) To work efficiently in the field of counseling a professional needs to have those specific qualities to be operative.
The skills that I would like to use in my future career are good communication, active listening skills, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making. I need to develop my critical thinking and decision making skills more thoroughly. I will develop these skills by using my logic and reasoning more often than going off of feelings and emotions. This would assist me in recognizing better approaches to solutions for problems. Making good decisions is what a leader does unconsciously. I need to balance out the different factors more consistently to make the best decision possible under any circumstances.
On the “World-of-Work” map the area that seems to meet my interests, abilities, and values is the social service area. I feel a strong sense of enjoyment when I work with people with a primary goal of helping them. The areas that I have identified for future exploration and research are arts and science and technology. I would like to learn more about those career areas because it would give me more insight in those subject areas; which could possibly have the potential to help me in my career choice. I believe that having knowledge in many different areas helps people succeed more than just knowing a lot about one subject.
At this point in the class, my current thoughts about work and a career are that I need to know my best abilities and apply them to everything that I do. I know now that it is very necessary to use my skills and qualities to not only land a career; however it is extremely important to continue to use and develop them. It is very essential for all employees to integrate their personality traits and strong interests into their work. Every career requires individuals to possess certain personalities in order to appropriately complete their duties.

...WK 9 Expository Essay Final Project Bridget Sherman COM/150 September 9, 2012 Elliot Courtright Social Networks and Teens Essay As a single parent with a pre-teen, it is often hard to make the right decisions in knowing how to keep them safe. It is the hope that the information provided in this paper, will inform the reader of the pros and cons of what it is to have a teen using a social network. As parents, it is a never-ending duty to ensure the safety of the lives that have been given to them as parents. One must ask themselves is this environment a safe place to be in and who will their teen be interacting with. Frequently children in 4th-6th grade levels engage in social networking activities. In the process they post personal, potentially exploitable, information about themselves online. (Social Networking Statistics, 2012) Social networking sites provide many opportunities for adults, but leave adolescents vulnerable to predators, addiction, and lack of social interaction. The beginning of social networking started with a site call BBS (Bulletin Board System). This was a site that allowed user to use text only exchange. This was a popular thing in the 1980s and late 1990s. (Nickson, 2009) The Internet was still new at this stage and did not catch on until AOL (America Online) ventured around in the mid-1990s. Soon sites such as Yahoo and Amazon came alone catching the eyes of the young generation. In August......

2010 Ford F-150

...Nathan Jacquin UI355 2/9/2010 2010 Ford F-150 Review: http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/Ford_F-150/ "Yes, Dearborn has its troubles but this is the best pickup truck on God's little acre. Yes, the Japanese have beaten up on the domestics, but Toyota and Nissan only wish they knew how to build a full-sizer as tight, as tough, as well-sorted, as keen and mean as the thing behind the Blue Oval. I mean, people, it isn't even close. My Car of the Year is a truck." According to the Los Angeles Times, the new 2010 Ford F-150 ranked the top vehicle of the year. The Auto Press actually proclaims the F-150 number 1 against the other 8 competitors who make full size pickup trucks. Based on the numbers from performance, exterior, interior, safety, and reliability the U.S. News scores the Ford at a 9.0. For all of you Ford haters out there, I would take a look at this review and think twice before you say “Found On Road Dead” or “Fix Or Repair Daily.” The review is not saying that the 2010 Ford is not the only option it just ranks as the top for trucks. The 2010 Ford F-150 has numerous features stretching from heated seats to a Platinum trim package. It offers many options to truck buyers, but the basic version is an automatic two-wheel drive regular cab with a 6 ½ foot bed XL priced at MSRP $21,820. The fuel economy is great on the new 2010’s with a MPG of 15 city and 21 highway. These are the basic specs if you go to a Ford Dealership and buy this right off...

...the early revolution of the planets, and the scientists who discovered what we know today. Formation Scientists have been studying the origin of our solar system for hundreds of years. Some findings are well supported while others are not as well received. The best news is we are not done concluding the formation of our solar system just yet. In 2006, the distant ice-covered body known as Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf and changed the model of our solar system from nine planets to eight. Today a planet is defined as, “A full-fledged planet is an object that orbits the sun and is large enough to have become round due to the force of its gravity. In addition, the planet has to dominate the neighborhood around its orbit” (Mason, 2006). So how did the planets get here? The best theory we have today to answer this question is called the Nebula Hypothesis. Our sun and our planets were formed from a rotating cloud of cosmic gas. This cloud was most likely created from a supernova explosion. This cloud contained numerous minerals and materials like hydrogen, helium, oxygen, carbon, iron and silica. Like a giant blender the mixing action was occurring because of the non-stop motion creating friction, energy and heat. As everything came into contact like properties accumulated and the elements fuzzed together. This formed what we know as our solar system today over millions of years. Our solar system is truly amazing. Did you know it is made up of 88 objects total: ▪ 1......

...Can too Much Knowledge be a Bad Thing? There is a saying that states that knowledge is power. Knowledge is one of the greatest things a person can have when critically thinking. There are many aspects of knowing something. In this case, having the correct answer is only part of this delicate process. Also involved in this process is reaching the realization that the correct answer has been obtained. The only downside to this would be having the wrong answer and believing it to be true. When someone has been taught a certain method or idea their entire life, it is nearly impossible to abandon those beliefs. But to a critical thinker who can view other opinions with an open mindset, this sudden shift in knowledge might not be so traumatizing. Along with being knowledgeable of a subject is the expectation of the ability to express what is known and the methods used to obtain such knowledge. This is where knowing something begins to become difficult because it can be very challenging to explain how knowledge was obtained. In a situation such as this is when answers like: "I know because I know", and "I just know, that's all" come into play. Another common problem with knowledge is realizing what information is suitable for the current audience. An age old example is a child asking their parents where babies come from. This is the time when the parents must decide if their child is old enough to know the true details of childbirth or whether they should find a simple answer that...

English 150

...Alex Darga English 150 9/8/15 When the phrase critical thinking has appeared throughout my high school and college career several things come to my mind. One of the things I think of the most when the phrase appears is sitting in a silent room and being forced to brainstorm. While in high school there were several times where we had critical thinking time, where we had to sit and think of in depth context for a future paper. This was usually at the beginning of a new paper as the teacher wanted us to get all of our ideas onto paper whether it be in note or paragraph form. This helped us start on our paper instead of being thrown into something blindfolded. While teachers would make us use our critical thinking skills I always thought of it as more then just a demand. I believed critical thinking also means to think outside the box. Writing is more than just looking something up in a book or on the internet and putting it into content, I believe its using your own words and own mindset on things. This helps broaden our thoughts to what we put on paper and helps us become a better writer. While critical thinking may be tougher for some, everyone has the ability to think deeper into different topics. Furthermore if it weren’t for critical thinking the world would be a boring place to live in. It would be like no matter whom you would talk to they would all speak the same and would have the same thoughts. So in other words critical thinking means change, different and......

Anthro 150

...Anthro 150 Extra Credit Assignment Archeological and anthropological data and theories have supported the idea that all human societies have developed along a universal “evolutionary” trajectory. Human societies started as small and egalitarian, then transitioned to large and socially complex. This evolution from “foragers” to “states” has paved the way for various theories about the progression of the human race. In Yoffee’s article, “Too Many Chiefs?” he discussed the idea of neo-evolutionism. He describes neo-evolutionism as being a stepladder model of bands turning into tribes, then chiefdoms, and finally states (Yoffee 1993). This model has been used for the past three decades, and has helped archeologists research the early states. Despite its benefits when investigating the rise of early states, this model has been rejected and critiqued by many people. Some anthropologists reject this theory due to their inability to see evolution on one trajectory. Those who reject neo-evolutionism allow for more informative theories of social change and evolution. The idea that all human societies develop along a universal “evolutionary” trajectory can be proved using a new social evolutionary theory discussed in Yoffee’s article, “Too Many Cheifs?” Yoffee breaks down the key components of the new social evolutionary theory and relates them to neoevolutionism. He shows that while taking the idea of a trajectory into account, the new social evolutionary theory does not rest......

Variable Cost: A cost that increases when the firm increases its output and decreases when the firm reduces its output. 7. If marginal product is increasing at an increasing rate, what is happening to marginal cost? Why? Marginal product is the increase in output from having an additional worker. So, if the marginal product is decreasing, that would mean that the firm is adding new workers. Therefore, the marginal cost would also be increasing. 8. If the marginal product is decreasing but positive, what is happening to the marginal cost? Why? Marginal product is the increase in output from having an additional worker. ...Analyze, Critique, and Discuss The Gladiator HUM/150 It has been said that a gladiator is a warrior, one who was a slave or prisoner, who competed in different gladiator events. Gladiators would fight in rings and be pit up against animals, or other gladiators. These fight usually would consist of fighting to the death. The fate of the gladiators lives was often derived from the unanimous decision of the crowd. (The Roman Gladiator) Usually if a Gladiator was victorious and took the lives of many men, he would be awarded a wooden sword that would signify their freedom. How iconic was it for director Ridley Scott to direct a film by David Franzoni, to depict exactly what it was to be a gladiator. From the infamous fights that took place in the Roman Coluseum, to the melancholy dramatic feeling that overcame Maximus (Russell Crowe) as his family were killed through the treacherous actions of his rival Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). Gladiator begins with the battle with Romanian Army under the leadership of Emperor Marcus Aurelius against the Barbarian Tribe of Germania. This scene showed many striking points. For instance take the scene and where it takes place. Both armies are dressed in the traditional Armor helmets with steal chest plates and large shields. The uniforms are made with immaculate detail. The swords the bows, axes, and all the other weapons look as real as the weapons that were used in real life. The ash and corps infested battlefield......
