The first three years of my post academic career were spent sourcing consultants for boutique agencies whose client lists were made up of fortune 500 companies; key players in their individual industries. Although many of the professionals that I placed in their positions were high level software engineers, web developers, or security analysts, one particular job description consistently caught my attention; Project Management.
When I was faced with the opportunity to choose the Master’s program that I would like to pursue; I took my time considering the various options. After reviewing my day to day responsibilities, short and long term goals, and where my overall passions lie, it was clear to me that I was looking for a program that would develop my key competencies regardless of the circumstance, position, or industry that my future may hold. The Project Management Institute states, “PMI credentials certify your knowledge and experience in project management so you can be more confident at work and more competitive in the job market”, a statement that touches the core components that I am looking for in a Master’s program.
My current position as an Admission’s Recruiter at Northeastern University’s College of Professional Studies enables me to take on many Project Management responsibilities within our Admission’s team. I am expected to develop project plans and timelines while taking into consideration each program’s priorities, deadlines, and budget. Because my position is brand new, I am consistently developing matrices and reporting project and campaign performance, managing multiple projects at one time, and implementing project plans based on the Admission team’s strategic plan- responsibilities that directly align with the Project Management’s program objectives.
