There were different reasons as to why these two countries tried to conquer space and to outdo one another. Why wouldn't they make it such a big deal, humanity was looking to step foot on the moon for the first time, that would mark history forever.

To begin with, the competition intensified as each side attempted to prove the advantage of its technology. According to blog.yizzam.com/the-space-race-usa-or-ussr-more-competitive/, "Tensions quickly grew among the Cold War rivals and it became evident that the race embodied so much more than having bragging rights." The space race was a competition where both countries tried to develop aerospace capabilities. Thus, they wanted the world to see which was the better and more innovative nation. Beginning in the late 1950s, space would become another dramatic arena for this competition, as each side would prove to have superiority of its technology.

For a lot of people, landing on the moon was the goal that was required to achieve victory in the Space Race. Yet, landing on the moon wasn't the only thing that made up the space race. According to https://www.quora.com/The-Cold-War-Who-won-the-space-race, "► First human in Space, Yuri Gagarin - Vostok-1, April 1961 - Soviet Union." We all know that the first person to step foot on the moon was Neil Armstrong from the United States, but people are forgetting that the first person to ever even get into space was Yuri Gagarin, from the Soviet Union. The U.S wasn't the only one with achievements. It really depends upon the criteria that one sets for winning the Space Race. Some say the United States won, some say the Soviet Union won. In my opinion, humanity won this all

Space Race

...Alen Sonny Mr. Lewis APUSH Period 5 13 April, 2014 The War between Communism and Democracy for Dominance of Space The Space Race was a war of firsts between the United States of America and the Union Soviet Socialist Republics. But it was also the culmination of the dreams of man for many millennia and the team who worked on the space programs was able to discover what so many of the people that came before and after them could only dream of. It was an endeavor that all of humanity was invested in at the time. It was a testament to the power of the human spirit and it showed how nothing was impossible if we persevered and strived to be better. The space race did not start as one would expect with the respective American and Soviet space agencies. But rather it began with the German V2 missile launches towards the end of World War 2. The V2 missile was designed by Wernher Von Braun a German scientist who had dreamed of traveling to the moon for many years; however this dream had to be secret as it was considered to be treasonous and not helpful to the German cause. Von Braun and many other amateur rocketeers were drafted into the German war machine in order to help build a super weapon and their base was Peenemünde. When the war was nearing its end the Third Reich unleashed its secret weapon, the V2 missile. It could hit anywhere within its target range and there would be no warning. When it hit, it caused scenes of mass destruction. The V2 missiles were to be Hitler’s...

Women and Church

... yet have remained supportive of their male counterparts. The significant contribution Brazilian women have made to the development of the Brazilian church often goes unnoticed. Although Brazilian women were not able to achieve ordination within the religious structure, their leadership and ability to persuade spiritual leaders made them an influential voice in the Brazilian church. This research paper will examine the roles of Brazilian women in the Brazilian Church in the progressive era with a particular interest in the early nineteenth century to the early twentieth century. During the progressive era, Brazilian women re-shaped the Brazilian church to a public political forum where Brazilians could engage in discourse and educate others, setting the stage for organized political movement. At the same time that middle-class Brazilian women were encouraging Brazilians to embrace “La Raca Negra” they were also endorsing the “politics of respectability” in their efforts to work for the uplift and reform of their own race. Ultimately, Brazilian women contradict their efforts to uplift the race by utilizing the Brazilian church as an arena of political discourse because they are conforming to the Victorian ideals to earn respect within mainstream society simultaneously. In order to understand the roles of women in the Brazilian church, the roots of the Brazilian church must be understood. Predominately...

...work together to solve this, it can be solved sooner rather than later. Sea creatures, wildlife and humans have all been affected by people that do no recycle. There should be a law in the United States that makes recycling mandatory in every state. By people not recycling has made a drastic change in the climate. Trees have been cut down and new resources are in a huge demand because of people not recycling. After the trees are cut down, fuel is needed to transport the trees and to make new paper. When the fuel is being used it gets burned and being released as a greenhouse in the environment. Sometimes, papers do not reach landfills and the papers that do not reach the landfills should be processed. Even if it does reach the landfills, it should remain there until the earth absorbs and processes it. Even though paper disintegrates faster than Styrofoam and plastic, instead of consuming new paper, just recycle the old one paper. Human waste is the reason landfills are so overcrowded. The paper that does not get recycled gets tossed into a landfill. The chemical that are used for ink for newspaper are putting the wildlife and the human residents that live near landfills at risk for obtaining cancer. Animals lose their homes when trees are cut down. Animals and people have to look for new homes because of not recycling. There is no protection after the land id opened and the damage is done. Critical Essay on Two Academic Papers

...1.0 INTRODUCTION The purpose of the current paper is to critically review the contributions that two of these studies have made to our understanding of societal perceptions, social support and how it affects breastfeeding attitudes and outcomes. (Kronborg and Vaeth 2004) Defined Social support as the mother's perceptions in relation to the support she receives from peers, family and the society at large. The first paper to be reviewed is written by (Leeming et al. 2013) and entitled 'Socially sensitive lactation: Exploring the social context of breastfeeding'. The second paper is written by (Scott et al. 2015) and entitled 'A comparison of maternal attitudes to breast feeding in public and the association with breastfeeding duration in four European countries: Results of a cohort study. The current paper will summarise the arguments, review the subject matter in both papers and compare and contrast the different methodological approaches taken by the authors with comments on the appropriateness of each method chosen. It concludes by a justified opinion of the subject. (Li et al. 2008), stated that discomfort with the idea of breastfeeding is one of the concerns for some women choosing not to breastfeed or incorporating shorter duration of breastfeeding (Stuebe and Bonuck 2011). Decades of research confirm the benefits of breastfeeding for infants and for maternal health (Cricco 2007) (Tarrant, Dodgson and Wu 2014) (Ingram et al. 2008). 1.1 ARGUMENTS (Leeming et al. 2013)...
