Special Blend Concert Report

I attended a small concert on Friday October 13th in Fullerton California at a bar named the Slidebar. The bands that performed were Livication, Special Blend, and the main performance was by Brewfish. These bands are all of the reggae/rock genre with Brewfish also containing a little alternative and pop as well. The Slidebar’s setup is very organized having a stage down a hall in the back room separated from the bar, which makes for a decently spacious event for a bar. The Slidebar’s purpose was and is to provide local college students that make up a big part of the area in downtown Fullerton with good music and a hyped, yet still relaxing environment. I feel that the Slidebar as well as the bands did a fine job bringing a good environment and in turn making the whole venue a big success. I believe the event was effective because of the bands that were chosen to play for the type of crowd that usually attends at this particular bar. This bar typically features rock and punk style bands …show more content…
The band Special Blend also included a bongo drum and a modern trumpet in their musical instrument line up. Those two instruments really created a strong reggae feeling more so than the other two bands. All three of the bands are clearly rooted in reggae music. The 4-style beat was the beat I most heard during the show from all of the bands. Although all the bands are rooted in reggae, differences in all three were also clear to hear. Special Blend was the band more so strictly a reggae band. Brewfish had clear sounds of rock with a more up tempo rhythm as well as pop and funk. From what I heard, Brewfish was heavy with the bass and brought out a lot of percussion. Livication sounded like a reggae band mixed with blues. For me, the lyrics told more of a story like that can also be heard in blues music. Livications electric guitar also was played more with a blues sound than the other two

After graduation he went to study with the Boston Symphon Orchestra’s summer institute, where he was the conducting assistant to Serge Koussevitsky. In 1943 he was placed in his first permanent conducting position with The New York Philharmonic, during his lifetime over 200 of his recordingings were made with the Philharmonic. In 1943 he was also asked to be a guest conductor at Carnegie Hall. This led to him being sought out as a guest conductor. He had his share of critics because of his dance-like style as a conductor. (Gottlieb) In 1945 he was named director of New York City Symphony. He held other positions from 1945 until 1969, conducting more concerts than any previous conductor. He spent a great deal of his time teaching and composing for non-classical gneres. Although it was known by family and friends a great regret was not being able to compose more music, however, the music he did compose was so invigorating and memorable. He brought jazz to the concert hall and syphonies to Broadway. His concert works was said to “revel the influence of many composers – Hindmith, Britten, Shostakovich, Brahms, and Rachmaninoff, to name...

...Firms strive for sustainable competitive advantage, financial performance that consistently outperforms their industry peers. The world is so dynamic, with new products and new competitors rise seemingly overnight, that truly sustainable advantage might seem like impossibility, but there are winners and the Zara chain is one of them. The Zara fashion chain, founded in 1975 in Arteixo, is perhaps the world's most successful clothing chain. Zara has helped its parent, the Spanish firm Inditex, grow from obscurity in the mid. 90’s to the world's third largest pure-play fashion retailer after the Swedish H&M and US-based Gap Inc. with financial performance well ahead of these rivals. With 1021 shops, at 13.04.2007, in 55 countries, Zara appears to have found the formula for success: Give the public what it wants, at the lowest possible price, in the shortest time possible. In order to think about how the firms achieve sustainable advantage, it's useful to start with two concepts defined by Michael Porter: operational effectiveness and strategic positioning. (I) OPERATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS According to Porter, the reason so many firms suffer aggressive, margin eroding competition, is because they've defined themselves according to operational effectiveness rather than strategic positioning. Operational effectiveness refers to performing the same tasks better than rivals perform them. Everyone wants to be better, but the danger in operational effectiveness is in "sameness". At its...

Tourism in the Maltese Islands has grown accordingly, with it being one of the main drivers of the Maltese economy. In this report, I will focus on the impact tourism has on Victoria, the capital city of Gozo, in terms of economy, environment, society and culture. Tourism Tourism deals with tourists, which represent the demand side and the tourist product, which represents the supply side. Tourism also interacts with different environments such as social, cultural, political, natural, economic and technological. Such impacts can be negative, positive or both.
