Lobsters being a mobile species and all of their movements are highly analogous to the biological and ecological aspects (Filiciotto et al 2014). Locomotor behavioral states that have high implications for the growth, reproduction and survival in decapod crustaceans are territoriality, nomadism and migration (Filiciotto et al 2014). The results in the study emphasized that when the lobsters were exposed to boast noises it increased their locomotor activity, such as mobile states (Filiciotto et al 2014). Lobsters that were in groups increased the distance moved and their velocity in respect to the control lobsters (Filiciotto et al 2014). No study has been done on the relationship between locomotor activity of lobsters and acoustic stress conditions …show more content…
In another study they observed an increase in escape behaviors such as tail flipping and swimming which was in response to the ground gear component of a trawl (Newland et al 1989). With that in consideration in this current study of spiny lobsters the high value of locomotor activities indicates a disturbance response which was due to the increase in ambient noise (Filiciotto et al 2014).
The increased swimming activity in spiny lobsters depletes a large part of their energy budget (Filiciotto et al 2014). The associated metabolic costs may compromise other biological activities such as reproductive activities, food acquisition and regulation due to the perturbation and migration in the environment (Filiciotto et al 2014). Spiny lobsters just so happen to be an affable species which shares shelters and aggregates in formations that are coordinates which then senses olfactory alarm signals (Filiciotto et al 2014). Its affableness is evolutionarily favored because of the benefits that are gained by
