Title: How different springs behave under the influence of same mass depending on the spring constant (k) and connection types (parallel or series)?

Summary: This experiment will be carried out to investigate spring constants of different springs by measuring the length of springs under the influence of same mass and different masses, and observe how overall spring constant changes depending on connection types of springs by measuring amount of extension when springs are connected in series and parallel. Different springs with different constant, different masses, weighing machine and a measuring ruler will be used.

Research: The course textbook and different textbooks (S.Beichner, Fizik1, Ankara: Palme Yayınevi, 2002.), some laboratory experiments, which retrieved from the Internet, some lectures and videos comprise sources for the theoretical analysis of the experiment.

Description of the experiment: This experiment, which will be conducted, involves two different parts.
The first part will be the observation of different springs’ extensions under the influence of same mass and different masses. Hooke’s Law asserts that when a force applied to a spring, the extension of the spring from its rest position is proportional to the force, which is applied to the spring. In brief, this law shows the connection among applied force to the spring, extension and spring constant.
That is: where ‘F’ signifies the applied force, ‘k’ symbolizes the spring constant, which depends on the spring’s stiffness, and ‘x’ is the amount of stretch. Extensions of different springs under the influence of same mass will be measured and weight of the mass, which forms the applied force to springs, will be computed. Following this, same measurements will be performed for different masses. Consequently, springs’constants will be obtained by F=-k.x
In the second part, different springs will be connected in series and parallel. The theory predicts that the overall k constant of two combined springs in parallel will be the sum of their constants. Symbolically, The overall k constant of two combined springs in series will be . K1 is the constant of first spring and k2 is constant of the second spring. Again, amount of extensions will be measured in two different spring systems (parallel and series). Overall stiffness of the spring (k), which are obtained from these measurements by F= -k.x, will be compared according to combination types.

After the experimental procedure, data which will be obtained from these measurements will be used to create data tables and draw the graph of ‘F’ versus ‘x’. A graph with a straight line whose slope is ‘k’ spring constant will be obtained, according to theory.

However, the actual graph is anticipated to be different because of expected errors arising from the elastic limits of the springs.

Summary on Nestle

...Company has operated a plant in Michigan, which manage by Brendan O’Rourke. Currently, they are producing Ice Mountain bottled-water. To add to this, Nestle wants to increase the amount of water pump so that they can create a bigger market of bottled-water. However, Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation (MCWC), a Mecosta local resident group, worry that the over pumping groundwater will have an effect towards the environment, and consequently, they wanted to stop the Ice Mountain bottled-water plant. Therefore, the main issues for Nestle can be summarized as listed below: • The Nestle company pumps groundwater, but the ownership of groundwater is controversial. However, there were many arguments regarding Nestle pumping the water from the spring, yet a MCWC’s (Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation) lawyer – Jim Olson agree and explain it under the doctrine of reasonable use which states” the owners of a stream can use its water as long as it’s in connection with their land”. In addition, David K. Ladd argues that the water that was put in the product is no longer water; it is considered a food and is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. • In 2003, Nestle was ordered by Michigan state court judge – Lawrence Root to turn off the pumps due to Michigan climate began to change. In addition, a year after Jennifer M. Granholm (the new governor for Michigan, who stopped the expansion of new bottled-water plants) proposed the Water Legacy Act (to protect all state’s groundwater)...

...Ballet 2 In the video clip, the ballerina performs a variation as the spring fairy in Cinderella. This is a allegro piece with springy and quick steps. The dancer executes each movement with incredible grace and control. She really captivates her audience and draws them in emotionally. She incorporates ballet incredible technique that is strong but at the same time she makes it look effortless. Her musicality adds to the drama of the piece and shows her true talent. Her port a bras are perfect, the way that they move with each step and add to the complexity of this variation. The port a bras also add to the lines of her body and I like how her hands, in a way, are presenting her feet.. Her legs reach and point while she's in the air in such a graceful way. She also has a great sense of her center, which helps her in her turns and jumps while she moves in a circle. The piece also goes from fast movements to slow and even incorporates isolated movements, which allows time to show cases her talent. She performs one arabesque position into another with out coming off point, then does it again without taking a molecule of sharpness off of her skill level. Overall I think that the ballerina's performance in this piece was incredible. Its inspiring to watch, for someone like me who its trying gain more knowledge and skill in ballet and dance in general. She performs with such ease and grace that really just adds to the beauty of her talent and make it even more awe inspiring...

Springtime Sexism

...Nico deveber Professor Gabrielle Houle DRST 2617 10 October 2014 Springtime by María Irene Fornés is a play that follows the lives of Rainbow and Greta, two lovers living in a small city in 1958. Springtime brings up many issues on love, power, and desperation; especially in regards to poverty and sexism. Through a close reading of the text, it will become clear that this play requires its audience to understand how poverty and sexism intersect in regards to oppression and privilege in society. Poverty is a clear topic in Springtime, it is first presented in the second scene wherein Greta is ill, and Rainbow is forced to steal in order to afford her treatments: “I must do it. You’re ill and we must take care of you.” (83). In this scene Greta begs Rainbow not to do something that could endanger her, and Rainbow insists that she must to be able to afford her treatments. This is the first of many scenes in which the issue of poverty is presented to the audience. In another scene, Greta tries to get Rainbow to throw away the watch she has stolen, and again Rainbow cannot oblige because, “We need the money. For you. To make you well.” (83). Rainbow and Greta are struck with a terrifying reality in which they must choose between Greta’s health, with the cost of sin (and real-world consequences, as displayed through later scenes) and letting Greta fall ill. Rainbow is driven to blackmail and prostitution, taking nude photos with men in desperation to pay for Greta’s treatments. While...

When I move them in the same direction they are even/on top of each other. This happens because the velocity or direction and speed are constant making the acceleration constant. 5) What happens to the vectors when you jerk the ball rapidly back and forth across the screen? Explain why this happens. The blue arrow goes with the green the shoots in the opposite direction shortly after. This happens because of the ball decelerating rapidly before traveling in the other direction and repeating the process 6) Now click on ‘Circular’ on the bottom. ...has been brought to my attention that during the unionized strike one or more employees have sabotaged a machine within the bottling plant. The infraction came from an unknown chemical, which was put into the machine. This has now contaminated 120,000 bottles of our spring water. From what we have found the chemical is very minute and will cause no harm to consumers unless the water is drank in excess. This has caused a huge dilemma for us as a company on the financial end. Recalling 120,000 bottles of natural spring water will be costly as well as desterilizing the machine again. However, we have built our pride and reputation on having pure natural spring water and in my opinion I would say we have to recall the contaminated water no matter how minute the contamination is. If even only one person got sick or suffered a long term illness due to this it could close us down all together. With that being said, I would advise that we get the recall notice out in a rush, and a cleaning crew in to clean that machine and check the others before we resume daily operations of production. I understand this putting us in a financial crunch and may take a while to recover from. The fact is, we sell only pure natural spring water and this is not pure so we cannot sell it or we cannot claim to sell pure water. Not to mention, if there is any risk of someone becoming ill from our negligence, OSHA can fine us much more then we will lose from the recall if not shut our doors completely. I highly...

Consumer Prefrences

...consumer’s preferences on a particular good. In addition, it can relate to one of the determinants of demand that cause a shift in the demand curve. For example, in winter, people are highly interested to wear or buy very warm clothes than in summer. Therefore, when people feel cold, the demand for warm cloths is increasing, which mean that the demand curve is going to shift out. However, in Summer, people feel hot so their interests in warm cloths is going to decrease , which leads to a shift in of the demand curve. Another example of the impact of weather changing on consumer preferences is the use of means of transportation. In very snowy days, people are demanding more to ride a bus or a car than to walk, but in nice weather such as in late spring, people are less interested in using means of transportation.so the demand for the use of means of transportation increases in snowy days that make the demand curve to shift out. While in very nice weather, people take advantage of the weather so they prefer to walk. With that, the demand for using means of transportation is going to decrease and leads to a shift out of the demand...
