Stages of the Research Process For this particular assignment, I will be researching two very important topics, bullying and the No Child Left Behind Act. I chose these two topics to write about as they are very close to my heart with having young kids in the school system. Our young kids deserve to have the best opportunities and to have all learning advantages that they can get. The no child left behind act defiantly helps to make sure every child is given a fair shake. Bullying in the school systems and elsewhere is something that the adults in the young kids lives need to make certain is being monitored and controlled. This is a very serious problem that can have a very negative impact to young kids. I beg the question as I research these two topics of are we doing enough? If there are measures currently in place are they doing all that they were designed to do? The truth that was found within research done by Educational Equity Concepts (EEC) was quite alarming! "A stunning (and probably stunned) 71% of teachers stay out of or ignore teasing and bullying of students, according to a recent study of elementary-school bullying and teasing by Educational Equity Concepts (EEC), a national nonprofit organization that promotes bias-free learning" (Schroeder, 1999). There are many training and developmental tools being introduced to both teachers and the students. These tools are teaching the children how to ward off the bullying and is teaching teachers how to detect it and put a stop to it. The independent variable within this article would be how much training will it take on both the part of teachers and students to put a stop to bullying? The dependent variable here is by what margin is the bullying minimized after the training? The No Child Left Behind Act is where our research will now go. “The No Child Left Behind (NCLR) Act of 2001, signed into law by President George W. Bush on January 8, 2002, is the most noteworthy of recent congressional attempts to improve student achievement and otherwise reform elementary and secondary educational programs in the United States” (Simpson & LaCava, 2004). This act in its full intended scope is designing the level of teaching among all young students to receive an education that will allow them to perform with superb proficiency levels regardless of their skill levels. The students that are disabled or the students that are high achieving are all given the full efforts of educators to make sure that no child is left behind. Some of the means that have been mandated by the NCLB initiative are the highly regulated school performances. Schools that do not report high test scores are in some cases reprimanded and are at risk for a governmental takeover or reform. The schools that shows high test scores are rewarded and recognized and often given extra funding. These are both things that drive the performance of all schools to provide the top-notch education to the students. The variable within this article resides within the high achieving versus low scoring schools and the effect that both of those results have on the students. Is the act indeed making sure that no child is left behind? It takes the efforts of both schools and parents to see to it that no child is bullied and that no child is left behind. The research and tools that have been implemented are great tools to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our children, but it cannot stop there. We must all do our part to educate children, teachers and parents on how to help properly kids whether it be with knowing how to avoid bullying or how to study properly and excel in testing. It all lies within knowledge and understanding of how to properly help the children and each other.
