The game starts like many other Star Wars games and movies with the famous introduction, “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away”. However, just the namesake of Star Wars and the unique introduction to this game don’t make the game good. Usually it’s the quality of the game that makes it fun to play and great to enjoy, and throughout the game Star Wars: The Old Republic, one will be constantly amazed by the witty dialogue, the immersive gameplay, and the incredible storyline that can suck hundreds of hours out of the player’s life in just one playthrough. The dialogue in this game is absolutely amazing. From witty remarks from both the player’s companion (who is a computer-controlled character in the game that assists the player throughout …show more content…
With the choices presented to players throughout the game, the player becomes closely aligned with the light or dark side or not aligned at all. This allows players to feel great power and control over how their character is turning out. One might just want to be in it for the money and make their character one that doesn’t care for the light or dark side of things as long as they get extremely rich, or one might be in it for their alliance, such as the empire or republic and only choose paths that expressly help the player’s alliance. In the beginning of the game, the player is allowed to choose their alliance, race, physical attributes, gender, and class (of which there are eight with about twenty-four subclasses after you get to a certain point through the game). This allows the player to feel as if they are more a part of the game, further enhancing the immersion they feel. Whether male or female, in the game the player comes across those who ask to be the player’s companions. These companions (that there is a set group of for each class) include male and female humanoids as well as creatures such as ewoks, jawas, and more. Throughout the game, the player has the opportunity to build romantic relationships with these companions (that is, if male the player would be able to form romantic relationships with the female companions and vice versa for female players), and these romantic relationships …show more content…
It takes the player from being a new recruit all the way to being one of the galaxy’s most feared villain or most loved savior. The player has in total eight storylines to play through that coincide with the eight character classes. Each storyline is unique in its own way, giving the player a new experience with every storyline. Even if playing the same storyline multiple times, it is possible to have multiple outcomes, for the player’s choices have a great impact in the storyline. For instance, in one part of the game, there could be one outcome if you align yourself to the light, and a completely different one if aligned with the dark. Throughout the main story of the game, the player gains power, faces obstacles, deals with love and hate and betrayal, and much more that just makes the game’s storyline all that much better. On top of the main storyline, there are many side missions that can increase your presence in the galaxy. From nothing the player rises into godlike power which few can defeat, the epic champion of the galaxy. From nothing the player becomes known by all as the most

The first Star Wars movie spawned forth a universe in which fans dreamed they could become a part of. Despite all of its box office success, the greatest accomplishment of the Star Wars universe, was the change it caused to cultures worldwide. Star Wars pioneered modern cinema, brought upon us a new age of thinking, and created fans whose passion knows no bounds. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope was the first film to be released in what is now known as “The Original Trilogy.” Along with its successors Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, A New Hope showed film studios and filmmakers around the world that movie trilogies can be extremely successful. With such an elaborate and lengthy storyline that spans across the three movies, it kept audiences entertained for years to come. Antebellum Texas

...ANTEBELLUM TEXAS. In the drama of Texas history the period of early statehood, from 1846 to 1861, appears largely as an interlude between two great adventures-the Republic of Texas and the Civil War.qqv These fifteen years did indeed lack the excitement and romance of the experiment in nationhood and the "Lost Cause" of the Confederacy. Events and developments during the period, however, were critical in shaping the Lone Star State as part of the antebellum South. By 1861 Texas was so like the other Southern states economically, socially, and politically that it joined them in secessionqv and war. Antebellum Texans cast their lot with the Old South and in the process gave their state an indelibly Southern heritage. When President Anson Jonesqv lowered the flag of the republic for the last time in February 1846, the framework for the development of Texas over the next fifteen years was already constructed. The great majority of the new state's approximately 100,000 white inhabitants were natives of the South, who, as they settled in the eastern timberlands and south central plains, had built a life as similar as possible to that experienced in their home states. Their economy, dependent on agriculture, was concentrated first on subsistence farming and herding and then on production of cotton as a cash crop. This meant the introduction of what southerners called their "Peculiar Institution"-slavery.qv In 1846 Texas had more than 30,000 black slaves and produced an even larger number...

Democratic Stability in Western Europe

...stability of a democracy is formulated vis-à-vis it’s institutional factors. (Magagna 2/18). As actors, states are indeed rational and thus adhere to cost-benefit analyses in terms of bargaining power. In this analysis of political instability, it is evident that the sources are as follows: the potential benefits of transition exceed the costs of bargaining, fragmented party support creates a democratic deficit, linkage between democracy and redistribution, and the integration of violence unravels the social peace democracy needs to survive. These aspects of the degradation of democracy and consequential transition are most observable in post-war Germany and the modern world. In 1918, Germany was a strong world power in the midst of a war-torn Europe, ravaged by a period of great instability and a destabilization of empires of old. In this atmosphere, Germany had formerly reigned supreme, leading to a schism of power...

Terrisom and Patriotism

...The connection between war and patriotism-or better yet, between war and the making of patriots-is evident, maybe even self-evident. But, is a war really required? The answer is no, not as long as we remember past wars, and use those memories to meet current challenges. To help us remember, we have a Memorial Day (Decoration Day when I was young), and the Lincoln, Vietnam, Korean, and (eventually) World War II memorials. To the same end, we have national cemeteries filled with the graves of patriots, and a national anthem composed during a long-past war. This nation was born in a war, and Abraham Lincoln referred to those who fought it as "the patriots of '76." We were "one people" then-we said so. We were made one because King George III and "our British bretheren [were] deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity." What those foes did to rally patriotism in 1776, the terrorists did on Sept. 11. The signs of this upsurge are everywhere. The grass-roots response of the American people has been phenomenal, a display of bottom-up public patriotism unseen in this nation in at least half a century, slicing across boundaries of race, class, age, and gender. American flags fly from the antennas of battered pickup trucks, from stately Victorian porches, from office windows. An Indiana flag company reports it has never had this many orders, 25 times the norm, in its century-long existence. The flag is everywhere, and so is the need of the people to display their love...

The Plough and the Stars - Liberation

...Consider how the ideas of liberation (in terms of labour and nation) are explored in The Plough and the Stars. Sean O’Casey has long been feted as one of Irelands great literary playwrights. This has not always been the case however, as he endured severe criticism of his works particularly The Plough and the Stars, which sparked a riot when staged in the Abbey theatre in 1926, because of it’s “representation of the 1916 rebels as cowards principally motivated by vanity and self-love” (Pilkington 2001 P101). Within this play, the final in a trilogy of plays, O’Casey explores many areas of interest to the people of Dublin at the time of its setting in around the Easter 1916 rising. Within the play certain themes are explored: poverty, religion, class, sex, morality, as well as the themes of nationhood and social identity. There is a recurring topic of the struggle for liberation, portrayed through the nationalistic Jack and of the labour struggle through the ‘learned’ Covey. This essay hopes to further explore the idea of liberation found within the play with emphasis on the nationalism and socialism themes. O’Casey began life in a Northside Dublin tenement, a last son of a large Protestant lower middle class Unionist family. O’Casey suffered much during his childhood years, particularly with his eyes, which stalled his learning process as he had to spend much time away from school. However he had a thirst for knowledge and taught himself to read by the age of thirteen....

Adaptations are among the most prominent adaptations are passages from Weber’s Der Freischutz, Suppe’s Light Calvary Overture, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 (the storm), and Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyrie. The last of these serve as a spirited leitmotif for the ride of the KKK. The arrangements of well-known melodies are used primarily to arouse emotions and set moods. Southern tunes, such as “Dixie,” “Maryland, My Maryland”, and “Old Folks at Home” express stirring patriotism for the South while reminding the viewer of the story’s setting. Other patriotic melodies include “The Star-Spangled Banner”, “America the Beautiful,” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic.” When the Southerner Cameron seeks refuge in a cabin with the former Union soldiers, their acceptance of each other is suggested by the playing of “Auld Lang Syne,” a song associated with reconciliation after the Civil War. ...Identification. The name Yugoslavia previously designated six republics (Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzogovia, Croatia, and Slovenia), but now includes just Serbia and Montenegro. The word means "land of the southern Slavs." Montenegro, which means "black mountain," takes its name from its rugged terrain. Within Serbia there are several national cultures. In addition to the dominant Serb tradition, there is a large Hungarian population in the northern province of Vojvodina, where Hungarian is the common language and the culture is highly influenced by Hungary (which borders the province to the north).
