In today's time businesses are changing and adapting to an ever changing culture. Some major examples are Starbucks coffee shops and airports. Starbucks has changed to a place that is not just for coffee but a place to discover and find new interests. They have started to sell music CD's, promote movies and there is talk about selling books in the future. Airports have also started to change the types of shops and stores that are in them. Shops such as fireworks, which sells gift type items, boarders books, and the life is good store, which clothing and gifts have been moving to airports to help boost their sales. Both the airport and Starbucks have flourished and evolved out of a world that has become increasingly globalized over the last few years
Starbucks first shop opened on March 30,1970 in Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington. This was the only location for 17 years until in 1874 three new stores were opened. Over time they have opened shops all over the world until it has became a household name. Today Starbucks is in 55 different countries with over 17,000 stores. Starbucks has gradually added and changed the items that they are selling in their coffee shops to cope with the cultural changes that have happened in the last few decades. The way Starbucks are set up it is an experience now. “Starbucks has created a new lifestyle for people. The Starbucks stores don't just sell coffee; they sell an atmosphere. An atmosphere of people gathered together and talking and making small talk and catching up on old times or the activities during the day.”(Rein, 2007) Music is a big part of the Starbucks experience. Most of the music that is played in Starbucks today is not mainstream and some of which is from upcoming artists. “Mr. Schultz said the company was eager to offer customers products that are 'out of the mainstream.'”(Dominus, 2006) The reason most of
