...Sample Statement of Purpose: MBA The term “globalism” has become overused, and often misused. In fact, we might say that it has actually been devalued to the level of the everyday language of buzzword-brandishing marketing pundits. Such freewheeling usage has perhaps prompted many a CEO (or future CEO) to launch into a global plan or strategy without proper consideration of the demands and dynamics of the international marketplace. Many would-be globetrotters neglect the acquisition of language skills, knowledge of foreign trade and tax laws, accounting standards, etc., all of which are necessary to effectively “go global.” Superficial knowledge only leads to failure. This has, indeed, happened, and while there is no doubt that neglecting to capture the gains achievable in overseas markets is equally suicidal, misguided attempts at competing globally (along with rapidly developing opportunities in the global marketplace) have placed a dramatic premium on individuals who take the time to properly train themselves in international business. For me, the Columbia MBA is a significant component of this training. I foresee my own career moving in the direction of European/American business, initially from an advisory perspective (i.e. investment banking or consulting) and ultimately from a leadership role within a manufacturing entity, preferably a start-up venture....

Statement of Purpose

...STATEMENT OF PURPOSE I could not escape the influence of my surroundings as it gradually dawned on me that I was destined to be part of the business and economics world. Seeing my father as a successful business owner with real estate portfolios had a decisive impact on my life. He introduced me to a world of finance, accounting and banks through his business and helped me to develop constructively. I realized that understanding the interplay of business and related aspects of economics can be critical. Russia experienced a financial crisis in the year 1998, where there was a total collapse of the banking system declaring bankruptcy, devaluation of the currency. Businesses of many families suffered, including mine. As a result there was a strong necessity for a stable economic market. The common theory of how the legal framework exacerbate the crisis and why financial regulations which failed to execute did not put the right checks and balances failed to convince me. Behind these events lay a principle that, in turn, fueled and increased my interest in economics and reinforced my conviction to pursue a degree in management. During my undergraduate program I gained significant understanding of micro and macroeconomics, global financial systems and market structures. I became proficient in credit management, banking systems, monetary and economic policies....

...John Smith Statement of Purpose I have chosen to apply to the department of journalism at Kent State University, because I wish to accomplish what has long been my dream - become a fully-fledged journalist. Here is what led me to this aspiration. All my achievements so far have been driven by example. Back at high school I admired my Physics teacher, who was an exceptional person. He turned every class into a spectacular event with a mesmerizing scenario. Outside school, I revered my tennis instructor, whose tutoring in no way limited itself to game practice but was instilling a handier skill - the skill of living. Although I devoted a large share of my time to sports and eventually studied to be a teacher of Physical Education, I felt my academic background would be incomplete without devoting more time to mind after spending several years training the body. Yet, long before that I was fascinated by Vladimir Pozner, the journalist who then hosted the so-called "TV bridges" with the United States. Ever since then he has dominated the Russian TV-scape. I marveled at the mastery that he demonstrated leading the discussion and ease, with which he switched from Russian into English and back. This was the first time when I became interested in learning the language and started to fantasize about a career in journalism....

...During my bachelor’s telecommunication engineering, each semester I was delighted to embark on subjects amalgamating engineering with diverse physical sciences. Engineering Economics, Mathematical Modeling, Antenna and Propagation, Entrepreneurship Managing are such examples that taught me of engineering being an intellectual understanding of social needs rather than a rigorous exercise of scary mathematics. My viewpoint of engineering further revolutionized while working in the editorial team of my university’s annual magazine, Synergy. I did my final year project on FPGA based implementation of TF-RDLMS FIR filter using VHDL. It was the same year when I took over as Editor-in-Chief of Synergy. The worth of management in both challenging and noncompetitive milieus was the most valuable implication I learnt that year. During my apprenticeships at SIEMENS, Islamabad and Commissioner’s Office, Rawalpindi I realized that no matter what discipline of life one follows, one’s practices can’t remain isolated. Troubleshooting a fault in networking or coordinating hierarchical communication in an office, I found I was congruently dealing with technology and management. These experiences provided me the opportunity to rethink of my future ambitions. I was tempted to experiment. Combining Engineering and Management in one degree, there couldn’t have been a more innovative and exciting deal. I went through the proposed curriculum of Engineering Systems and whereas I was......

Statement of Purpose

...“All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their mind, awake to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers by day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.” These words from British Army Officer, T.E Lawrence, have guided the creation of my own personal mantra: “Live your dreams with open eyes”. This mantra has been affirmed in my life as it drives me to actively pursue my passions – and there are many - with fervour and an undaunted determination. When one door closes, a mere crack of a window is enough to encourage me towards my goals, whether they be emotional, physical, academic or spiritual. I have always been told that I am an anomaly. Though I am artistic by nature with a natural talent for singing, writing and the visual arts, I always had a love for the sciences, specifically medicine. This love affair grew from watching the many medical dramas which drew me into ‘diagnosing’ and taking care of relatives, tending to sick pets, even nursing a plant back to health. As I grew older and began to see the world from a more mature perspective, I realized that I what I really wanted to do was help. Help people, animals – anyone and anything that suffered in some way. Sadly or perhaps decidedly, I was not able to pursue medicine due to financial circumstances. Instead, I pursued an undergraduate degree in Environmental Science. This honed...

...We are living in a world where a good education and work experience are key factors to be successful. Self-knowledge, understanding of the world around you and be up to date with the latest technological advances are essential aspects for any professional. There are also other qualities that we can add to the equation, such as: discipline, ambition, setting short and long term goals, consistency and focus. From a young age I always knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I always wanted to be a successful man! I think if you are successful in your professional life you could be happier in your personal life and fairer to everyone around you. I started my career in Los Angeles, CA in 2003. Back then I was very attracted to new technologies in computing, so I embarked on the abstract world of "zeros and ones". But it was not until I came to this country and started working in the banking industry that I met my true passion for business management and development. I began to work closely with Financial Advisors and Business Bankers to assist business clients. It was a very exciting moment in my career because I was entering in a totally new, demanding and challenging world. I decided to finish my undergraduate studies that I started a few years ago at Polytechnic Institute. My Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, from UCLA, has given me a strong foundation to my analytical and deductive reasoning skills since software development involves a lot of long, complex......

...Motivation I cannot trace back the moment when I first heard this statement that the more energy from sunlight strikes the earth in an hour than all of the energy consumed on the planet in one year but I wondered at that time, why are we having energy problems on earth. This was the start of fascination to look keenly into the problem of making alternate energy sources more practical. This fascination about renewable energy made me think more and more with open mind about the available large amount of energy which is gift of the nature to us. If we have made our life worse by not taking care of the nature then to use nature positively is the only way for us to save our planet. But I always wondered why we could not still use these sources for all our needs. But I knew if I had to go into the root of this thing, my aspiration should be coupled with the strong technical base and other necessary dependent aspects. In my third year I took course on “Renewable Energy” that gave me knowledge about different kinds of renewable energy systems. The course structure covered major part of it - Solar Energy, Wind Energy and Bio-Energy etc. And it was more like the base for my future endeavor. Fortunately having centre of Excellence in Energy in our college (Indian Institute of Technology Rajasthan) gave me several opportunities to get exposure of Energy field....

...“What are your career objectives and how will an MBA contribute to accomplishing these objectives?” I used to think that my income would never really matter. Then, I finished my undergraduate degree and entered the so called real world. As a golf professional fresh out of college, my opportunities for making sufficient money were limited. I took a job in Portland, Oregon as a full time golf instructor for the largest golf instruction company in the world, GolfTEC. I loved helping people and am grateful for the sales experience that I gained in the competitive environment at GolfTEC. However, I decided in September of 2013 that I would be changing career paths. I will always have a passion for golf, but I know the golf business is not where I want to be in ten years. The employment outlook in the golf industry is not great, and I want more out of a career than teaching golf. I would like to become a certified financial planner. The ultimate goal for me is to run a small investment firm where I can utilize my particular skill set. During my time at GolfTEC, I was top 9% nationwide in new client acquisition. I believe my ability to create rapport with potential clients and drive referrals through excellent client management will help me succeed in the financial world. Why do I want to pursue a career in finance? Einstein once said, “The most powerful force in the Universe is compound interest.” Since my sixth grade teacher explained the concept, I have been......
