Consider the following for background: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uXu3kE6wks A frequent criticism of the H1-B1 worker program is that it takes technical jobs from U.S. employees. Do you agree or disagree or sorta agree/disagree and why?
I either need to read more about this subject or the prescribed way dude explained the process was not informative enough. From his description, the non-citizens are only here for a short period of time, they are limited to what they and their families can do, and ……… So I don’t see them really taking away many technical jobs. I’m on the fence because I believe in the concept of America being the land of opportunity for all who are qualified, not just some.

What kinds of things can we learn from these two statistical procedures? How do you think you might use them in you work environment? Be specific and give examples to support your response.
A. If we could develop estimates, then we could possibly predict the outcome of an event or ensure that it would be successful. Sample size is very important to ensure that an experiment yields statistically significant results. If the sample size is too small, the results will not give actionable results because the variation will not be large enough to conclude that the result wasn't due to chance.
B. Estimation refers to the process by which one makes judgments about a population,

...attended reproduce puppies that are not desired and so, are assaulted through the neglect that they are left to suffer alone within the cruel world of the road. The tough conditions that street animals endure are major issues in animal welfare these days. Nearly seventy five million dogs are out on the road. The injuries suffered from fending for food are typically never treated. Tumors, infection of skin and open wounds are usually found on the animals that go untreated and cause nice suffering for the bruised and unattended animal. Nearly seventy five percent of households with kids over the age of six have at least one pet. Animal abuse and force usually occur in cycle(Animal Cruelty Facts and Statistics). In studies, women are abused less than animals. Within the words of Jordan Valerie, the President of Restate Animal, a volunteer organization that rescues stray dogs and cats, what many of us do not absolutely perceive is that animal abuse is not restricted to our households and streets. Another example of animal abuse is the agriculture. Agriculture could be a large-scale industrial web site wherever animals are rose for the food trade. Abuse happens in their restricted orbit, typically indoors; and it happens after they are injected and/or fed prescription drugs to maximize their growth and prevent problems. The animals live short and painful lives. Works farms are related to varied environmental hazards like water and pollution (Pickert). . The bulk of stock these...

...CHAPTER 5 AN INTEGRATED SYSTEMS APPROACH TO CROP IMPROVEMENT G.L. HAMMER# AND D.R. JORDAN## # Agricultural Production Systems Research Unit (APSRU), School of Land and Food Sciences, The University of Queensland, Brisbane, QLD 4072, Australia. ## Hermitage Research Station, Queensland Department of Primary Industries, Warwick, QLD 4370, Australia. E-mail: g.hammer@uq.edu.au Abstract. Progress in crop improvement is limited by the ability to identify favourable combinations of genotypes (G) and management practices (M) given the resources available to search among possible combinations in the target population of environments (E). Crop improvement can be viewed as a search strategy on a complex G×M×E adaptation or fitness landscape. Here we consider design of an integrated systems approach to crop improvement that incorporates advanced technologies in molecular markers, statistics, bio-informatics, and crop physiology and modelling. We suggest that such an approach can enhance the efficiency of crop improvement relative to conventional phenotypic selection by changing the focus from the paradigm of identifying superior varieties to a focus on identifying superior combinations of genetic regions and management systems. A comprehensive information system to support decisions on identifying target combinations is the critical core of the approach. We discuss the role of ecophysiology and modelling in this integrated systems approach by reviewing (i) applications in environmental...

...9-708-486 REV: NOVEMBER 14, 2008 JORDAN SIEGEL Global Talent Management at Novartis Introduction Novartis CEO Daniel Vasella, M.D., was sitting in his first-floor office in 2007 in Basel, Switzerland, reflecting to an outside researcher about the path that had led to his becoming CEO, and the origins of his (and his company’s) philosophy around global talent management. In presentations Vasella gave to Novartis employees around the world, he continually emphasized that talent identification, the use of systematic talent development, and strong pay-for-performance were central tasks and responsibilities for the company and every manager. With regard to his and the company’s philosophy on accountability and incentive pay-for-performance, Vasella noted: “The best time to form views about management is before you come to the top. You see how the real world works and how bureaucracy works, and what people believe and never dare to challenge.” Vasella had spent five years in the U.S. as a manager for one of the predecessor companies to Novartis, and during that time he had learned about and embraced new models of incentive pay-for-performance that were being pioneered at General Electric: I was listening to what Jack Welch had to say in 1988/89 and I saw that they had a far better human resource and incentive system than we did in my company. I transferred back to home base in Switzerland in 1992, just after we had introduced variable incentive compensation in my U.S. operation...

...topicmodels: An R Package for Fitting Topic Models Bettina Grun ¨ Johannes Kepler Universit¨t Linz a Kurt Hornik WU Wirtschaftsuniversit¨t Wien a Abstract This article is a (slightly) modified and shortened version of Gr¨n and Hornik (2011), u published in the Journal of Statistical Software. Topic models allow the probabilistic modeling of term frequency occurrences in documents. The fitted model can be used to estimate the similarity between documents as well as between a set of specified keywords using an additional layer of latent variables which are referred to as topics. The R package topicmodels provides basic infrastructure for fitting topic models based on data structures from the text mining package tm. The package includes interfaces to two algorithms for fitting topic models: the variational expectation-maximization algorithm provided by David M. Blei and co-authors and an algorithm using Gibbs sampling by Xuan-Hieu Phan and co-authors. Keywords: Gibbs sampling, R, text analysis, topic model, variational EM. 1. Introduction In machine learning and natural language processing topic models are generative models which provide a probabilistic framework for the term frequency occurrences in documents in a given corpus. Using only the term frequencies assumes that the information in which order the words occur in a document is negligible. This assumption is also referred to as the exchangeability assumption for the words in a document and this assumption leads...
