The Americanization meant a lot for Stephen Austin, he seemed to be loved by the Mexican government, when he first migrated to Texas. He was giving land and was honored highly from the Mexican government. "Mexican government gave Austin a total of 239,628.38 acres (TGLO-SMTT:7–9). In return for the government’s generosity, Austin became a political broker and a close friend of many Mexican officials. He proved his loyalty by becoming a naturalized citizen and encouraging others to follow his example. " (pg.198) However, Stephen Austin would be arrested for proposing a idea for Texas to be independent and "Austin at first attempted to dissuade his compatriots from revolting by pushing the agenda to make Texas a state independent from Coahuila"
