The book Steps to Christ was written by Ellen G. white, in the year 1892. It contains thirteen (13) chapters all of which provide a deeper understanding and meaning of Christ and the way in which we can use the bible to get to know him on a much more intimate level. In order for an individual to properly accomplish anything in life inclusive of a meaningful relationship with another they must invite Christ in their lives, and since many of us have difficulties doing so, this small book written by Mrs. White provides us with a step by step tutorial so to speak on how to accomplish this. Chapter one is entitled “God’s love for man”. This chapter speaks about God’s undying love for us, despite the factor that we disobey him daily, he still protects us and cares for us. Many times people only look at the things that they ask God for and don’t receive or the bad things that are allowed to happen to them. Rarely ever do people genuinely take the time to think about the evil things that God is protecting them from that they cannot see, or how much care he puts into us. Without him we would have no life, we wouldn’t be able to eat or do any of the things that keep us alive. The only reason we are alive today and have the hope of salvation is because God sacrificed his son so that through him we might be saved. Therefore step one is to view the intensity of God’s immeasurable love for us in the light of Jesus’ life and death”. Chapter two is entitled “The sinner’s need of Christ”. This chapter goes into depth about how much each of us need the Love of Christ. Since the fall of Adam and eve we have not been able to be in perfect communion with God because sin still resides in us. Therefore Jesus came and died

Steps to Christ

...STEPS TO CHRIST SUMMARY. The Son of God came from Heaven to make manifest the Father. God, the Father, sent His only begotten Son, so that whosoever believes in Him should have eternal life. Jesus `earthly mission was to preach the gospel to the poor, heal the brokenhearted, preach deliverance to the captives and recovering the sight of the blind. Love, mercy and compassion were revealed in every act of His life. He became a man of sorrow. Before sin, man held a joyful communion with God but after sin he could no longer find joy in holiness. There must be a power working from within before a man can be changed from sin to holiness. That power is before a man can be changed from sin to holiness. That power is Christ. Through Christ, the earth is given again connected to Heaven and the only way to God is through Christ. True repentance is a gift from God. We must ask God to renew us a heart that longs for purity and righteousness. Only Jesus can make us free from our sins. He is ready to set us free from our sins and guilt. Suppose you have confessed our sins and chose to put them out of your life. Now you need to go to Jesus and ask Him to wash away your sins. Over and over again God reminds us of the beautiful things He wants us to believe. His promise to forgive our sins is for real and true. If we are truly Christ`s, we think often about Him. We want to be like Him and have His spirit in us. We may fall but God does not go away from us nor leave us alone. One benefit of belonging...

Steps to Christ a Summary

...Introduction The book Steps to Christ discusses our relationship with God. The author Ellen White describes thirteen steps we must take to enable us to have a loving and committed relationship with our Heavenly Father. In this essay I discuss each of the thirteen steps. In Steps to Christ, Ellen White discusses our relationship goals with Christ. The metaphor of the “steps to Christ” in the title can be understood as the steps in our relationship with Christ, which is equivalent to the rungs of a ladder. The author begins with God’s love for man, our need for Christ as sinners, repentance, confession, consecration, faith and acceptance, test of discipleship, growing up in Christ, the work and the life, a knowledge of God, the privilege of prayer, what to do with doubt, and rejoicing in the Lord. Ellen White covers the plan for developing an intimate relationship with Christ from the beginning to the end. In the following section I summarize some of the potent and interesting steps applicable to my personal relationship with Christ. Step 1: The Sinner's Need of Christ Sin causes separation from God like adultery causes separation in a marriage. Adam and Eve could not enjoy communion with God unless their hearts were renewed. In God’s mercy, the unchanged heart is not invited into heaven, as it would be torture to anyone in whom sin still resides. However, it is impossible for each person to renew their own hearts or cleanse him or herself in preparation for that reunion...

Discipleship Counseling

...Discipleship Counseling Sharon Drexler Liberty University Abstract Neil Anderson’s book, entitled Discipleship Counseling is a complete guide to teach how to help those who are hurting. This book is a useful resource to counselors, pastors, church leaders, or anyone who needs a step by step guide to biblical counseling. Dr. Anderson gives readers a very strong foundation of counseling through Christ, the work of the Holy Spirit, truth, the counselee’s faith, and the support of the church and Christian community. He discusses the encourager’s role in discipleship counseling as well as the role of the person being counseled. Anderson makes it clear that both parties must be open to the Holy Spirit and his truth if one wishes to reach the road to recovery, and the healing and peace that can only be found through Jesus Christ. The book is broken into three distinct sections to help the reader better understand how to reach these goals. The first section gives a description of mental health. In the second section Dr. Anderson describes root issues and how to counsel the spiritually oppressed and in the third section he takes the reader step-by-step through the freedom appointment and the Steps to Freedom. Discipleship Counseling Christians who choose psychology as a career are often challenged with claims that are a direct contradiction to their own worldviews, doctrines, and theology. In their search to resolve these issues and to achieve the goal of integrating...

...Master Guides Summaries Desire of Ages Summary – Christopher Pennerman The book The Desire of Ages was a book about the life and death of Jesus Christ written by Ellen G. White. It contains 87 chapters in total. Chapter 1 “God With Us”, talks about The Father and Son covenanted‖ together to save fallen mankind, and answers the question was their plan conceived before or after the fall of man. It then goes on to talk about the importance that Christ had in becoming human. Next in chapter 2 “The Chosen People”, is based on Genesis 12:1-3, where it talks about Israel failing to be a blessing to the nations. It then goes on to explain about how you can be a blessing to your community. Chapters 10-12 go on to talk about Christ Baptism straight to his Temptations. Two chapters that caught my attention were Chapter 7 “As a child” and Chapter 8 “Passover Visit”. Chapter 7 talks about the growth of Jesus Christ. Jesus did not have the privilege of going to school but his mother was his first teacher, he also studied the law of God. He had powers and he never abused the power to ease his work as a carpenter. He glorified God in all circumstances; Jesus lived a holy life even though he dwelt in Nazareth a place filled with temptation and other vices. He learnt from nature. He acknowledge God as his father, he also knew that they was time was everything “he said, "I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.”. He is the perfect...

...largest painting in the gallery. The artist depicts a scene of the Virgin Mary holding Christ, the child, surrounded by angels. The artist uses a mixture of color, dimensions, and composition to put an emphasis on the story that lies behind this piece of work. Dimensions refer to the different sizes of characters that are the focus of the painting or even the overall size of the painting. As mentioned before, the Nuestra Senora is the largest painting in the “Re-envisioning the Virgin Mary” gallery in the Blanton Museum. In order to really notice and appreciate the minute details in the Nuestra Senora, one needs to stand about 5 feet away from the painting. From this distance some details still appear diminutive but add a lot of character to the painting. The characters themselves do not occupy the entire painting. The angels make up a small portion of the paining all together. Mary and Christ occupy the very middle and do not fill up the oval shape in the center. What occupy most of the space are darkness and the steps that are beneath Mary. Each character in their own has different dimensions. The shadows, light, and different hues produce an illusion of layering throughout the painting. The painting clearly shows the Virgin Mary holding the child by the way lines are created even though we cannot see that part of her. This painting is a colorful portrait of the Virgin Mary and Christ as a child. Behind the Mother and Child is an oval background of what seems to appear...

Paul was imprisoned, but still giving them the sight to see beyond sight that they too will live as Jesus lives. The church was founded by Epaphras (Col.1:7). He was a native of the Colossian church and, an evangelist (fellow servant, disciple) in nearby Laodicea and Hierapolis. They informed Paul people was getting saved at the church only to see false teaching were being stirred among the people, Idolatry, rituals . So Paul writes back telling them they are Christ’s people not the worlds. (Col.2:20-23). Paul is telling them the Colossians that they should live for Christ daily. Dedicate everyday to him and press to the mark of a higher calling which is in Christ Jesus. (Phil.3:14) KJV. Step-2 Measure the width of the river to cross There aren’t many differences between us of today and the Christians in the Colossian church. ...People misunderstand Christianity because they encounter hypocritical Christians. A new convert in Christ can join a local church and may come across some members who may not act like Christians outside of the church. For example, they may come across a co-worker who never talks about God at work and whose actions are far from those of Christ, therefore they form an opinion about the church as a whole. Salvation begins as a relationship with God and it should be expressed in one’s relationships with others. When Salvation is received some people just treat it as “fire insurance” from hell, just doing enough to get by. Salvation should reflect the personal relationship you have with God. When people don’t make a true commitment to live a life of holiness then they give Christians a bad reputation. It is important as Christians to daily be refreshed by the Holy Spirit and being cleansed of all unrighteousness. Spend time in prayer with God so that we can be an effective witness for Christ. New believers are accepted for who they are, but they soon feel the pressure to hold the attitudes of others in church, to live the way others are living, and to prize the things that others value. We often hear that Christians may be the only Bible that people may read (our lifestyle). For the new believer when they join the church they are looking for examples (people who are souled out for Christ) to follow. If the majority of the church is double-minded (hypocritical), then as a result the...

...currently a Chaplain with the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency and a host of the radio show, “Let’s Go”. He evangelizes by sharing his testimony and loving people with simple, basic methods of sharing the gospel. Content Summary Fay begins his book by describing the state of evangelism in churches today. In the brief first two chapters, Fay explains that Christians can not fail if they will just share their faith. It is the sharing itself that is our success, not the expected outcome (Fay, 3). Fay describes the vast majority of Christians that are guilty of committing what he calls the sin of silence. He expresses the need for Christians to be excited about their relationship with Christ and to share their faith (Fay, 7). In one story that Fay tells, a woman who is in adultery, surrenders her life to Christ and goes back to her husband asking for forgiveness. Two days later the woman’s husband contacts Fay to tell him something was different about his wife and that he wanted what she had (Fay, 10-11). Mindful that not everyone will receive...

Truth About Psychology

...self-focused journey of behavior modification, which comes with self-help and psychology based solutions. You have been healed not with rules, steps, behavior modifications, accountability, and fear, but with peace and the power that comes from being fully hidden in Christ and completely filled with the Holy Spirit. You were reborn as a new creation; a race of people never before seen on this Earth. Over and over again, throughout the New Testament, you are given permission to be healed. Jesus died and with Him, your sinful nature died. You are no longer broken, weak or struggling, you have been fully restored and healed. Jesus came to Earth and was the beginning of a new creation. A new being. A race of people that would live for eternity, equipped with the same power, ability and inheritance as Jesus. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10) Verse after verse Jesus explains our new placement in the Kingdom and our new status. (John 10:25-30) Jesus promises us the Holy Spirit to equip us for the same power and good works that he had access to and experienced here on Earth. Once you were placed in Christ and filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus says in John 14:15-27 that you will keep his commands, you know him, anyone who loves Christ will obey and you are commanded not to be troubled or afraid. At this time I am presently in my 10th year as pastor of a church in an urban area of Brooklyn, N.Y, My first 8 years very little in the way of discipleship was accomplished as our building was old and the congregation was already small and began diminishing though relocation and death. Our efforts at discipleship were further hampered after in my 3rd year we experienced a major collapse in part of our building. Christ in Discipleship

...LIBERTY UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF DIVINITY Writing Assignment 1 – Christ in Discipleship Submitted to Dr. Gary Waller in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the completion of DSMN 500 – B03 Discipleship Ministries by David J. Miller May 29, 2016 Centrality of Christ in Christian discipleship Christian discipleship is to follow Jesus, to be his disciple, doesn’t mean community involvement and the veneer of tolerance. It means, mainly, first and central, to worship him — with joy at the heart. Making disciples of Jesus means gathering his worshipers. Discipleship starts with the heart, it is to have Christ at the center, to have His love, His Holy Spirit fill you, and guide you. To have Christ as the centrality of Christian Discipleship is the most important thing. The Apostle Paul describes it best in Colossians 3:1-11. “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath...

...of the Spirit are against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you would. But if you are led by the Spirit you are not under the law." The following illustrates the four steps of the Interpretive Journey for New Testament Letters in Duvall and Hays Journey into God's Word: Your Guide to Understanding and Applying the Bible found on pages 100-102: Step 1: Grasp the text in their town The body of the churches in Galatia consisted mostly of converted Jews and Gentiles. A group of converted Jews called Judaizers infiltrated the church and began teaching that in order to be saved, a person must keep the Law of Moses. This is what was called heresy (a false message), and one of the primary reasons for Paul writing this letter. Circumcision was the way of the law at the time and the Judaizers promoted it as the only way to salvation. Galatians 5: 1-12 tells us how to maintain Christian liberty. In Galatians 5: 16-18, Paul discusses how to walk by the Spirit and declares that the only way to salvation is not by following the Law of Moses but through faith in Jesus Christ, alone. This practical section of this chapter goes on to describe the works of the flesh vs. the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5: 19-24). Step 2: Measure the width of the river to cross The difference between the people for whom this letter was written and us is that they believed that through following the rules of the Law of Moses...

The information in this book also provides counselors with the information to help free people from their emotional pain and spiritual conflicts and guide them to a more complete understanding of who they are in Christ. Starting with presenting an understanding of the theological issues in counseling and what discipleship counseling is all about, Dr. Anderson shows the steps to make it most effective. “The Steps to Freedom in Christ” is a tool that counselors can use to help people resolve root problems (Anderson, 2003, p. 15).
