The following statistics start with per person averages for Johnson County, KS, then to a middle of the road potential, and then ends with overall averages. The reason they are organized in this fashion is that very high income earners in a county can artificially skew the averages to be unrealistic. Thus avoiding a demographic fallacy. The three numbers together make a lot of number crunching, but gives a more realistic perspective. Johnson County averages per adult personal income of $39,447 compared to $28,555 nationwide. Johnson County middle of the road household income is $75,017 compared to $53,482 nationwide. Johnson County average household income $99,787 compared to $74,596 nationwide. There has always been a rivalry that exists between the generations. One comical example of that rivalry is when Socrates called the youth of Athens "good-for-nothings." Included in that group of “good for nothing” youth, one of the most prolific of ancient authors, Aristotle. One generation is unwise to define another by the perceived youthfulness of another. Even Jesus Christ said, a prophet has no honor in his own hometown. These negative stereotypes unnecessarily limit a person’s future influence or capacity to change. This is true of current generations as well. The collective capacity of Millennials to change the world for the best is limitless. Maturity happens over a lifetime. Becoming an adult with adult responsibly and parenthood changes a person and their values. For instance, 12.5 percent of single Millennials are engaged in civic organizations. Married Millennials are 41.6 times less likely to be involved in civic organizations. What changed that? Their time? Their priorities? Their circumstances? All the above. Stein and Evans have Millennial children. Youngberg would have Generation X children. Most had some teaching exposure with Millennials as teacher, designer, and home life. Between the four previous teachers and designers of the curriculum there was a unique mix of a Certified Public Accountant, Engineer, Masters in Business Administration, Pastor, and average guy. The ability of those members of the teaching team and the design phase to handle most questions and provide a balanced approach was the genius of the group. Both Evans and Youngberg expressed frustration that Millennials need to step up more assertively and own the ministry and financial responsibility of the church and keep their person financial houses in order.
