Straight Out Of Compton “Any publicity is good publicity. “Aspiring rapper Eric “Eazy-E” Wright states to the rest of his fellow N.W.A brothers as they sit to discuss the police and F.B.I threats that they have been receiving in the mall. The movie Straight Out of Compton is based on the true story about six troubled some young black men residing in Compton, California who rise unexpectedly to fame, using their viciously honest rhymes, die hard beats, and frustrations about their lifestyle in the streets of the hood. Active from 1986 to 1991 these six men Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Arabian Prince, MC Ren, and DJ Yella have endured enormous controversy owning to their explicit lyrics that many people have view as being disrespectful to women, drugs and crime, police, and gang violence. It’s hard to actively hate Straight Out of Compton, a movie so realistic that is based seemly on the true story of six black rappers whose lyrics and rhymes had left a lasting legacy and impression on the hip-hop culture. O’Shea Jackson Jr and Jason Mitchell are spectacular as Ice Cube and Easy-E who are best friends that come to gloves with one another when Eazy-E receives more money and love from their fans then Ice Cube. Their outstanding performance acting over the edge and showing actions of ruthlessness towards each other as both men spit disrespectful lyrics at each other to become the best rap artist in the industry at that time. In every moment throughout the movie the audience gets to learn, see, and understand the point of view of each member in the group. Especially the notorious rapper and music producer Drew. Dre, played by Jason Mitchell. Dr. Dre’s seriousness and discipline of trying to achieve his dreams of becoming the biggest rap star in the history of music is filled with emotion of hardships, trials,

Response to Rview

...Response to Review (Straight Out of Compton} I first want to start off saying that Straight Out of Compton was a good movie. I was actually shocked by how good the acting was, and how believable the characters were. The movie does a great job of revealing the reason for NWA's breakup and acts as a precautionary tale about staying true to your ideals. I actually disagree with the grade ew.com is giving Straight out of Compton that is a B plus. I would have thought giving the movie Straight Out of Compton at least an A minus. I liked how the review first started off showing the history of N.W.A when it first started in 1988 and where the music first originated from. I enjoyed the part where it said N.W.A was a gang but it wasn’t a traditional gang, just a tight knitted group of guys that lived in poverty and were often harassed by police officials. The part in the review which I thought was my favorite and that I one hundred percent agreed on was when ew.com mentioned that the best part of the film was “N.W.A’s origin story: their aspirations, assembly, and earliest recordings that lead them to put their faith in a seemingly paternal manager.” The reason why I agreed with this part being the best of the film was because it was the rising action to the climax where they find out that the manger they put their faith on actually backs stabs them by cheating everybody except Eazy- E of their share of the money and also their credit to the music. Eventually the manger does cheat...

Hip Hop Music

...Hip Hop Culture and its effects on today’s society Ebony Lee COM/220 Research Writing 12/14/2011 Jessica Bryan Hip Hop music has influenced many things in American culture. According to a survey done in 2002-2011, many Americans believed that hip hop music promoted violence, demeaned women and condoned drug use. Although some people say that the lyrics in some hip hop music is violent and promote the wrong values, Hip hop “has positively affected” the way people think act and dress. In a recently taken survey, I found that many people think that rap or Hip Hop music lyrics promote violence. Do you think that Hip-Hop condones violence among its listeners? | [Writing suggestion: Unless in a quote or a title, avoid rhetorical questions in academic writing. Personal Responsibility

...Personal Responsibility Ryan Compton GEN/201 June 2, 2014 Michael Williams Personal Responsibility to me is acknowledging and taking responsibility for the choices you make. As stated by President Barrack Obama "we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents and the best schools in the world - and none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities." Everyone is responsible for themselves and their actions, although some like to place the blame of some of their actions and life choices on others, in the end you and you alone are responsible for the choices and actions you take. Too many people today blame the others for the situations they end up in, instead of having integrity and realizing that only you can make decisions for yourself. If there is one thing I learned while serving in the United States Army is integrity and personal responsibility. Every solider is responsible for themselves and the actions they take. In the Army you have to learn what is right and what’s wrong and have to be able to make precise and instant decisions for the actions you take. When your leader orders you to do something and you know that what you are about to do is wrong, simply stating you were following orders is not acceptable, you are held responsible for your actions no matter the reason or on who’s orders lead you to those choices. To be successful in college you have to have a determination and personal responsibility. If you go...

Hip Hop History

...aspiring artists, their physical images, the ever-changing sound of hip hop, and other elements that relate to the hip hop culture. A lot of people claim that hip hop and rap can only be about violence, aggression, sex, and money in order to sell or be popular. Another view on hip hop and rap is that it’s too violent, and inappropriate to audiences. That it’s not even music but just a bunch of crap, when in reality, it’s like poetry. The lyrics that artists write come from personal experiences, and perceptions of what they see in the world they live in. Hip hop and rap is more than just music. One of the primary sources I found is a review/article published in “The New York Times” called “The Uncluttered Hip-hop of De La Soul”, written by Peter Watrous, in which Watrous critiques the performance and the group De La Soul at a show. This review of Del La Soul is relevant to the history of hip hop course because it makes a point in which gives an argument for positive recognition of not only De La Soul, but other hip hop groups with similar style of music. These groups don’t write about sex, killing, and being the “top dog” in their music, but instead write about politics, peace, harmony, inner city problems. Another primary source I found is an article called “Striking Tales of Black Frustration and Pride Shake the Pop Mainstream”, written by a “staff writer” and published in “The LA Times”. This article is relevant to the course because it talks about the...

Vannevar Bush

...Vannevar Bush (/væˈniːvɑr/ van-NEE-var; March 11, 1890 – June 28, 1974) was an American engineer, inventor and science administrator, who during World War II headed the U.S. Office of Scientific Research and Development (OSRD), through which almost all wartime military R&D was carried out, including initiation and early administration of the Manhattan Project. He is also known in engineering for his work on analog computers, for founding Raytheon, and for the memex, a hypothetical adjustable microfilm viewer with a structure analogous to that of hypertext. In 1945, Bush published As We May Think in which he predicted that "wholly new forms of encyclopedias will appear, ready made with a mesh of associative trails running through them, ready to be dropped into the memex and there amplified".[1] The memex influenced generations of computer scientists, who drew inspiration from its vision of the future. For his master's thesis, Bush invented and patented a "profile tracer", a mapping device for assisting surveyors. It was the first of a string of inventions. He joined the Department of Electrical Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1919, and founded the company now known as Raytheon in 1922. Starting in 1927, Bush constructed a differential analyzer, an analog computer with some digital components that could solve differential equations with as many as 18 independent variables. An offshoot of the work at MIT by Bush and others was the beginning of digital...

Pros And Cons Of Venture Capital

...was providing financial and technical assistance to new ventures and, in 1940, the New England Industrial Development Corporation was launched to provide a similar kind of assistance. Boston was also the hometown of the first venture capital company in the US. The idea of venture capital came from Ralph Flanders, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, who was concerned about the lack of new company formation and the inability of institutional investors to finance new ventures. Flanders suggested iduciary funds, which would enable institutional investors to invest up to 5% of their assets in equity in new ventures. The proposal was supported by General Georges Doriot (professor at Harvard Business School) and together with Carl Compton (president of MIT) and some local business leaders. Doriot has established American Research and Development (ARD) in 1946. ARD made investments in young firms with a basis in technologies developed for World War II, often with close ties to the Harvard and MIT communities. Its first investment was in the High Voltage Engineering Corporation, which was founded by engineers from MIT and which later became the first venture capital-backed firm listed on the New York Stock Exchange. However, not all investments were successful, almost half of ARD’s profit during its 26-year existence came from its $70 000 investment in the Digital Equipment Company in 1957, which had increased in value to $355 million by 1971. In Silicon Valley, San Francisco...

Marketing - Chanel, Nike, Hot Topic

...1. Within the United States, especially in Southern California, an individual's appearance is crucial because it is used to make a first impression. A person is judged by what they wear and how they look. For example, it is probable that many people would perceive a person wearing ratty clothes as uneducated and irresponsible while a person looking pristine in a designer ensemble is assumed to be intelligent and successful. In every city, there are multiple fashion brands with different styles and ranges of apparel and accessories. Every season, new styles and designs are created which influence society. It appears as if more types of clothing exist than the actual number of people. With so many different alternatives of fashion, the fashion industry is trying to please too many customers with variety. There are currently various styles to choose from, and the clothes people wear categorize or label them long before they realize it. The three fashion brands that will be analyzed extensively are Chanel, Nike, and Hot Topic. These brands have apparel but are completely different in their target audience. Chanel is a prestigious high-fashion brand; Nike is a popular athletic line; Hot Topic is musically and artistically edgier with a smaller target audience between the three. With these apparel brands, a person wearing each would be labeled or even stereotyped. One wearing a Chanel’s 2012 Spring/Summer ready-to-wear designer outfit with a white jacket, lambskin dress with pearls...

Ethical Issues

...Chapter One Strategy and Competition Chapter Overview Purpose The purpose of this chapter is to introduce the student to a variety of strategic issues that arise in the manufacturing function of the firm. Key Points 1. Manufacturing matters. This writer contends that the loss of the manufacturing base in the U.S. economy is not healthy and will eventually lead to an overall loss in the standard of living and quality of life in this country. It counters the argument that our evolution into a service economy is a natural and healthy thing. 2. Strategic dimensions. Along with cost and/or product differentiation, other dimensions along which firms distinguish themselves include (a) quality, (b) delivery speed, (c) delivery reliability, and (d) flexibility. 3. Classical view. The classical literature on manufacturing strategy indicates that strategy should be viewed in relation to one or more of the following issues: (a) time horizon, (b) focus, (c) evaluation, and (d) consistency. 4. Global competition. How do we measure our success and economic health on a global scale? One way is to examine classical measures of relative economic strength, which include (a) balance of trade, (b) share of world exports, (c) creation of jobs, and (d) cost of labor. However, such macro measures do not adequately explain why certain countries dominate certain industries. National competitive advantage is a consequence of several factors (factor conditions, demand conditions, related and supporting...
