My Japankoi Inn as well as any other major hotel or resort establishment must abide by many hospitality laws, legal and regulatory documents. Laws may include hotel and inn contracts, documents, real estate, zoning and many others things. Our strengths will be that we are an ethical team of workers that are law-abiding. Some weaknesses may be that without hiring a full time lawyer, we may face a lawsuit, because people are sue-crazed nowadays. With this design and concept, we have the capability to expand globally and internationally. Economically speaking, we are a fair inn, we charge $130 per day, and whether the economy is bad or good, we will have reasonable booking fees. Technologically speaking, this Japankoi Inn will be state of the art and very futuristic (especially considering the fact that it’s just a bed and breakfast). Our strength is that this luxury bed and breakfast will be highly advanced with all the latest technological innovations. My innovation will not only be in the fact that this is a luxury Japanese bed and breakfast, I will also be inventing an application that controls appliances in the rooms, and it can be used to communicate with the entire Japankoi Inn staff. The only weakness is that handing every customer a tablet will be too costly, so I will have to find another way for everyone to use our app. A solution may be to mount tablets which run the app on the wall that cannot be removed by a customer. I want my Japankoi Inn to be socially connected like other businesses. For example, Mcdonalds, Macys, Walmart, Target and many more all have forms of social media. My Japankoi Inn will have a Twitter, YouTube channel and Facebook account to help guests and fans stay connected with us so they can see special events, news and future details about our luxury bed and breakfast. The only weakness is using social media is not the most effective marketing strategy for the hospitality industry, travel hotel booking sites such as Expedia, Hotwire and Travelocity are the best way of attracting customers to a hotel or resort. Environmentally, this will be a green luxury inn, we have a very luxurious back area with fancy fountains, Koi ponds, Bonsai trees, pools and ways to conserve energy. We will have sunroofs and technology in the Inn to help conserve electricity and make it an efficient inn. The weakness may be that a sunroof will not completely cut down on electric monthly bills, it may only help a little due to the fact that we have multiple guests and lights will be on 24/7. We might invest in solar panels as a solution to handle this issue.

As far as our processes and systems, we have the capability of checking in guests more efficiently, a weakness being that some guests like a personal experience (with human interaction) than being checked in too quickly. The goals, values and unique model that we are using are a major breakthrough for us. With our luxurious design and elegant aspects we are positive we will attract many guests and regulars. Our threats and weaknesses again are that other bed and breakfasts may have different themes that other guests may prefer over ours, because every customer is different and has different tastes. Our innovation is the whole model and uniform for this inn, with our application, luxurious Japanese design and elegant charm we will have a unique inn that will attract many guests. The only problem we can think of is handing out tablets to every guest in order to use our application, but that may be too costly, so we had a better idea of mounting them into the walls. With this, guests can still have access to them at any time whether they’re in their rooms or not. As a brand, our JapanKoi Inn of course will have to follow laws and regulations. As far as our zoning, pools and safety precautions, we have to be on top of our game at all times. Having our own bed and breakfast, economically speaking, we want to have fair prices even though we are associated with luxury. We are a 10-room establishment and we will charge $130 per night to stay with us. That is very reasonably priced; most hotel chains that are not 5-Star (that a lot of people come to for a quick trip or for a few days) usually pay around $120-150 per day and night. Our organization will adapt to change very quickly because of us being an inn with our very own application that can be used to communicate with our entire staff and control electronics within the bedrooms. We must stay on top with our technology and changes with androids, tablets and computer systems. Our JapanKoi Inn is totally innovative and obsolete technology is an absolute no-no; that is like having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without any jelly. In order to handle our supply chain properly, the Japankoi Inn will go straight to manufacturers whenever it’s possible to purchase the supplies that we require to run our facilities, or we will buy as many things in bulk as possible and store it onsite in a storage area. The items that we purchase in bulk will include linens, sheets, blankets, bath towels, cleaning supplies, toiletries, cooking supplies, plates, glasses and silverware. For the items that are rarely replaced and used in our bedrooms, we will purchase an additional 10% above the amount that we actually need to ensure that we can replace anything that is damaged, unintentionally taken by the guests or destroyed. For the kitchen, we’ll take breakage into consideration and purchase enough extra plates and dishes to make sure we can keep our place settings matching as much as possible. For disposable items such as toiletries, we will purchase 20% above the amount we need on a weekly basis to make sure that we’re covered even when fully booked, and we will purchase food and drink items on a two-week rotation which we will base upon a percentage of sales within the previous period, keeping in mind that we will purchase vacuum-sealed meat and poultry that can be frozen and used as needed while retaining exceptional quality. We will also install software to manage our inventory so that we can analyze our usage and adjust things as needed based upon the seasons of the year or other factors. In terms of our distributed items, we will outsource the printing of our mailed advertisements to the firm presenting us the best bid (from three printing companies) for our services within a particular distribution radius, printing enough to handle our mailings (based upon our current promotions) to previous customers advertising deals and encouraging them to return. However, to lower shipping costs, more vendors will be sought closer to the areas being targeted or close to newer locations as we expand our operations. We will also use a similar process to handle the printing of corporate documents such as our employee handbooks.

As a company we will face many issues and at the same time have many opportunities. The reality is that we will have competition from other bed and breakfasts, but our strength is that we have an opportunity that not all bed and breakfasts have; we have a luxury Japanese-themed inn. Typical bed and breakfasts’ weaknesses are that they are old-fashioned and just cozy, but we are taking our inn to the next level in luxury. We do potentially face a threat as well as any other businesses, we are not arrogant and one major issue is that perhaps some people like and prefer old-fashioned. So speaking in that sense, we will not be able to compete with old-fashioned facilities. A major threat to us, for example, will be if some guests like Victorian-style homes, then our JapanKoi Inn may not feel comfortable to them and we don’t stand a chance against our competitors. But on the other hand, if guests like modern interior or a more exotic theme, we are a completely updated establishment, absolutely no dated furniture or appliances. Weaknesses being the structure of our establishment might be too updated for guests who like older style design.
