Netflix Adds More Streaming Subscribers Than Expected

...This article talks about how Netflix reported earnings today after the market closed. The article mentions that the company added 5.59 million subscribers in the fourth quarter, beating projections of 5.19 million. This article relates to Ch1 and to Case 1.2 because according to the article Netflix is turning on servicing 130 additional markets, bringing “total reach of 190 countries”. Ch1 in the book being about “expanding abroad “ deeply analysis the process companies take in order to operate internationally. The connection I see is that before companies decide to expand abroad they encounter many challenges associated with developing strategies, building organizations, and managing operations. After reading the article “Netflix Adds More Streaming Subscribers Than Expected” I immediately connected it with Ch1 and with Case 1.2 because of the tremendous challenges that they have faced and are going to encounter in order reach their target of expanding into 190 countries. Furthermore this article talks about one market that Netflix has not yet been able to get into which is the Chinese market. Because the Chinese market is extremely regulated and the government controls everything shown of the media Netflix has had trouble entering the Chinese market. This brings back Case 1.2 and the decisions that Tingzon had to make in order to enter new markets. Finally, my reaction to this is that Netflix has been doing a great job in expanding into other countries so far. In my opinion...

Strategies a Firm May Use to Overcome the Challenges in China

...Strategies a Firm May Use to Overcome the Challenges in China For successful interactions in the world’s oldest civilization expatriates in China need to be aware of the uniqueness of the culture by treating their counterparts with respect and adding value to their lives rather than just value enhancements on the firm level on way up the “value chain” ladder. This can be done by building up relationships to strengthen the “guanxi”. It is evident that difficulties occur in a communist country where there is government interference, misallocation of resources and low freedom of doing business resulting in a high rate of corruption of 3.5 points in 2010 (Worldbank). There is not much to do about it but to be aware of it. It might seem like a paradox but Chinese consumers show increasing quality awareness. According to a report from Roland Berger Strategy Consultant (2010), the price of goods is no longer a “determining factor in a purchasing decision, [but it] is now just one of several factors alongside brand, quality and personal style.” Through offering an acceptable level of quality with perceived value a firm come overcome the challenges existent in the market. With respect to quality of labour force there is much more to take into account. As already mentioned, there is a small proportion of dedicated employees. Nevertheless, this number is decreasing from 17% to 10% as employee’s age increases. It is about to motivate the young generation by offering them...

Challenges and Strategies of a Working Student

...Running head: CHALLENGES AND STRATEGIES OF A WORKING STUDENT Challenges and Strategies of a Working Student Brooklyn N. Williams Walden University June 13, 2015 There have been many years since the last time I was in school to further my education, and since then, I was certain that I would never enroll again. After the grace period when I withdrew from the latest school, I felt that trying to further my education was not beneficial to my life. I know there are benefits to education yourself in today’s workforce, but I was reluctant to continue in that direction for several reasons. I was enormously discouraged after I obtained my Bachelor’s in 2008 and I did not think that more education could help me in the future. Even though I have faced my fears by continuing my education, I face even more as I go forth, but I hope to face those fears logically and intelligently. Since I had become accustomed to a life free of writing research papers and anxious to see final grades at the end of each semester, my enrolling here at Walden University was exciting, yet intimidating. The last time that I was a student was in 2011 and I could not help but feel that I could possibly be making a mistake. My biggest fear is that once again, I would receive a degree and that it would be in vain. For years after I receive my Bachelor’s, I did not have any professional work experience. With that, I thought not only about finding substantial employment, but the repayment......

Challenges and Strategies for Personal Success

...Challenges and Strategies for Personal Success Frank M. Asi HCS/504 May 27, 2012 Danielle Patrick Challenges and Strategies for Personal Success Every human being have dream, have ambition, they want to be successful but very few work hard enough to achieve their goal. Many want an easy lives, they were waiting for their break or luck. Herbert W. Armstrong, a prolific writer and church leader said “Success does not just happen you have to create it.” Definition of success is different from every individual. It can mean wealth, fame, glory, remarkable career, nice house, happy family, good health, and the leisure in life they can imagine. It is not easy to achieve, it requires commitment to hard work and persistent effort, and constant drive for excellence. Les Brown a famous Radio Talk Show Host mentioned in his show that “people who chooses to do only what is easy will make their life difficult, those who chose to do what is difficult will make their life easy.” If they strive hard and work hard they will attain success that they truly deserve. “There are many aspects to success; material wealth is only one component. Moreover, success is a journey, not a destination. Material abundance, in all its expressions, happens to be one of those things that makes the journey more enjoyable. But success also includes good health, energy and enthusiasm for life, fulfilling relationships, creative freedom, emotional and psychological stability, a sense of well-being and......

Because different people have different values it can create weaknesses in an organization by damaging group dynamics and creating unhealthy conflicts which can escalate over time (Green, 2006). PepsiCo is a company that is committed to delivering sustained growth through empowered people, acting responsibly, and building trust among its employees and customers. This paper will take PepsiCo and analyze the origin and subsequent evolution of personal and workplace values. It will explain how individual values drive actions and behaviors and analyze the degree of alignment between Pepsi’s stated values and its actual plans and actions. Finally, we will analyze the degree of alignment between personal and organizational values as reflected by PepsiCo’s plans and actions. Personal and Workplace Values Our personal values derive from our experiences, personal aspirations, culture, society, and some values are learned and passed down through the generations. Our values, in a sense, drive our actions which result in if and how we accomplish things. Values are important for not only individuals, but organizations as well. Organizational values should be directly connected with personal values.......
