Tom Rath says, “You cannot be anything you want to be - but you can be a whole lot more of who you already are.” Rath is the creator of Strengthsfinder, a program helps people find and understand their strengths. For example, my strengths include: Competition, Significance, Achiever, Futuristic, and Focus. Throughout our study of Greek culture, especially in The Odyssey, these are very common traits. These are traits commonly seen in athletes, warriors, and leaders such as Odysseus. My vase includes images such as those, along with images that connect to The Odyssey and my own life.

This requires a great deal of focus 1) not to be tempted by the suitors, 2) to stay true to Odysseus after decades, and 3) to control her situation against the suitors. Penelope doesn’t have a lot control this situation, so she learns to outsmart the suitors. Instead of focusing on what she couldn’t control, Odysseus coming home, she decides to focus on what she could control, delaying the suitors. The first when she said, “wait, though you are eager to marry me, until I finish this web” (2.95-96). Then when she reveals the contest to “string the bow in his hands and shoot an arrow through all twelve axes, with him will I go” (21.77-79) Even though Odysseus had been gone for years, she is always focused on him. In Greek culture, wreaths are very common awards given to athletes or significant people (Alchin). People who possess significance “want to be very important in the eyes of others” (Clifton StrengthsFinder Themes). One of the reasons I had so many leadership roles in high school is because I love to lead those around me. One of the activities the our leadership classes often did is . Everyone in the class would pick a couple of people to acknowledge and they write about you affect them. It is such an encouraging atmosphere.
