In health care in particular, there are high levels of stress which can have a negative impact on the environment, the staff, and ultimately the patients. Nurses are subjected to a great deal of occupational stress which in turn impacts the quality of patient care. Occupational stress can be defined as, “the destructive physical and emotional response that occurs when the requirements of the job do not match the capabilities or desires of the employee” (Hall, 2004). The health care profession is unique in its ability to cause stress on its employees.
