Stress is a widely experienced factor among students at University. There are so many causes of stress but these causes sometimes make it easy to overlook the effects. However, if you put enough consideration into it – that is not the case at all.

There’s so many causes – more than you could count just for going to school even without the stresses from home life. The first cause is, of course, homework expectations and deadlines. Deadlines can put stress on a student’s shoulders so easily. And even further than that, on top of the deadlines, are the fact that sometime your work load could be insanely overbearing. However this is sometimes just not something you could counter without ruining your teaching style. This type of stress can cause students to fall behind in their work – their grades may suffer, and their sleep schedules may even tank as well.

Another huge cause of stress is just going to classes, which is why some people opt for online classes. There are a growing amount of people in the new generation that are shy around audiences or have severe social anxiety that may cripple their interactions in class. However since not everyone’s classes are possible online, that is almost unavoidable for students. This could also cause tanking grades, or a deteriorating mood and attendance in class. These cause are detrimental, obviously, to the students learning experience in class. I personally believe an easy to way work through this with them is to let them pop in and get their work early and bring it in

by a deadline, which may sometimes lead into the other cause of stress – but sometimes you sacrifice.

These glucocorticoids are epinephrine and cortisol, which both accelerate immune cells to move from the bloodstream into the tissue if needed to fight against an infection, and when the infection is gone, they return the body to homeostasis. ANN-MARIE ROY Contact: COURSEWORK STRESS STUDY ANN-MARIE ROY ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was to investigate students’ perceived university coursework stress and whether the use of wishful thinking or problem-focused coping was related to anxiety and depression levels. The method of investigation was a four-part questionnaire. Participants were 81 Glasgow Caledonian University students. There were two hypotheses: 1) problem solving copers will score lower on the Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale. 2) Those high in perceived coursework stress and who reveal wishful thinking strategies will have higher anxiety and depression scores. A multiple regression revealed partial support for both hypotheses – problem strategies had no relationship to coursework stress but wishful thinking and anxiety were both positive predictors of stress; however, contrary to hypothesis 2 depression revealed a strong negative association with stress. The conclusion from this study is that wishful thinkers are also more likely to be anxious; problem focused copers are not anxious, depressed or stressed; stressed students do not suffer from depression.
