Who knew the first day of my sophomore year in high school I would find myself in a situation that I thought I would not be able to handle on my own? My Honors World History class was changed from a class taught by a teacher to a class taught by a computer. Yes indeed, they had changed my regular class to an online class instead. The principal had informed us it was last minute changes made by the school board. The school board had thought it would help us learn the material better. It took my classmates and me by surprise. I had never agreed to have this class online but had no choice but to stay in it. The counselors had advised me that I was not going to be able to move to a different class because they said moving from an honors class to a regular class would affect me. It would look bad on my transcript; therefore, it was not going to be recommended to move. As we started the class, I could tell this class wasn’t heading anywhere good. The way the system was set up was messed up. How it was set up so last minute everything was so unorganized. The program that we used for the class was confusing and slow. The teacher would have to assign each test/quiz/assignment to do them. It took forever to finish each assignment because the teacher was always so busy and each student would always be attacking her to assign the work for them. The principal felt bad about the decision that was made but could no longer do anything about it. I had to deal with the difficulty of the class but was still able to overcome it. The obstacles that I faced with this class were a lack of structure and not feeling respected in the learning environment; I overcame these obstacles by getting out of my comfort zone and seeking help from someone else and; therefore, I learned to push

Because they are self-paced, they allow for changes to be made to suit the student's learning style, capacity and interests. This will affect how much the child learns and retains for later use. Because digital media can be easily integrated into the curriculum, learning becomes a much more accessible and fun event. Most cyber schools encourage the use of videos, audio materials and forums to facilitate learning and comprehension. Many also push for taking to the outdoors as a way to get a real-world understanding of the concepts learned in cyberspace. Both elementary schools and high schools can be completed completely online with no specific time frame required, which means students can graduate as early or as late as their schedule requires. No Need to Travel * A commonly quoted advantage of cyber schools...

...The Advantages and Disadvantages of Online School The best way to advance in life and have a better professional career is by having education. When student finishes a college degree the chances of having a financially stable life are much greater than not going to school at all. However, even if student does go to college how effective is their learning? In this current century, a good amount of colleges offers online classes. In my opinion online courses are not as effective as in-person classes, or could I be wrong? Let’s examine both points of view. The use of computer learning has increased over the last years, and it continues to grow dramatically across the globe. Traditional School vs Online School

...Cristina Batista COM/1455 University studies and Communication I Sheri Lindquist Traditional School VS. Online School The difference between going to school online and traditional school can vary; they are either good or bad differences. From socialization, commute, convenience and family, it can have an impact on a person; the impact can be good or bad. Socialization plays a huge role in a persons’ life especially while attending school. While going to traditional school, a person is more likely to get the benefit of having friends. Online school can prevent a person from having a social life, because all classmates can be in any part of the world. I believe that depression plays a huge part on people that do not have daily contact with others. The more contact with people the more a person evolves to be a better “people” person. In class a student would have the ability to get thorough help by teacher, and online the only thing a student can do is e-mail or call. As for myself, I have to look at someone, in order to understand what I am having trouble understanding. Many people who go online and do not understand many people who do not understand might go silent and fail. No matter the communication, student must always speak up. The thought about success, helps me push a lot, even when I feel like quitting. Fellow class mates can be a help because they are experiencing the same thing, specially if the students are local. The trust between students that we know can...

...better serve my patients. One thing I considered to be my greatest fear would be time, and the fear of not being familiar with the online class. I am new to the online program and was a bit hesitant on starting, because I’m used to the classroom environment my whole life. But what convinced me is the flexibility it offers, being able to work at my own time. I was born and raised in the Philippines, when I first got in the U.S; I was 20 and was totally overwhelmed with the kind of life here. When I started school the first time, it was all new to me. My first class was communication, and given that I wasn’t born here, I was struggling due to my language barrier. I was always afraid to speak in public, because I was scared that people might not understand me or I might say words incorrectly. But I studied really hard, and involved myself with a lot of after school activities to somehow, enrich my communication skills, and in someway overcome my fears. Now that I am a nurse, I now conduct in-services, at work, and gain the respect of my patients and colleagues. This has taught me that anything is possible, as long as you have the determination and the will power to do it. And from this, I will be able to succeed in this program, by keeping myself focus and motivated. To be able to manage my time wisely and to familiarize myself more with the online...

Internet or Traditional?

...us with many resources including online education. Now people in any work situation and around the world can come together through the internet and learn different subjects. Providing internet classrooms is an effective way for students to get the most of learning. There are many benefits to online education one being the flexibility of student’s schedules. Individuals can work on their degree no matter their life situation. Another benefit to this is when help is needed from a student, there is online tutoring available so the student never has to feel alone. Lastly, when a student is learning on the internet, there are no distractions from other students and they can get their learning and homework done quietly and on their own. Internet classrooms can be very effective for students studying their subjects. In a traditional classroom, individuals are forced to get to class in a timely manner. They can’t choose when to learn and information is thrown at them at random. Everyone has their own biological clocks and only their own body and mind knows when is the best time to learn. Online learning allows for teenagers and adults alike to choose when they want to learn and provides a stress free situation. They can learn and do homework one after another or whichever way they choose because students like to do homework in a classroom anyways. The internet provides them with a flexible schedule they can follow at whatever pace they choose. Online learning might not be for everyone...

Online vs Classroom Education

...Online learning Vs. Classroom Learning When you’re watching T.V do you ever notice the entire commercial that they put out about going to college and doing your homework in your jammies eating cereal? I know I do. There are many different ways that you can obtain a higher education degree or certificate. You have choices of learning in a classroom environment, you can choose to take courses online, or you can choose to take both and see what option best fits your lifestyle or schedule. When choosing between which paths to take always remember that online learning is not as effective as sitting in a classroom environment because it is taking away the experience of getting direct and immediate hands on learning. In class when you’re faced with a misunderstanding or a problem or a situation; then you can get the immediate help that you need before you get any more confusion than what’s taking place in your mind. It also allows the instructor to see the facial expressions or reactions of the student to the information that has or is being given out. Also, when working in a group or working on a project it usually means that you have to interact with other people and get to know their learning styles’ and techniques. Depending on the project you have to get to know them on a cultural level and getting to know their beliefs. When you take an online course your faced with working alone and you don’t really get to interact with anyone except the...

Compare and Contrast Paper

...Online Schools vs. Traditional Schools The popularity of online schools has greatly increased in popularity (perc-schwabfdn.org). The majority of the population has not been introduced to it yet. According to I. Elaine Allen and Jeff Seaman, over 5.1 percent of college students are enrolled in at least one online course (2). An online education will benefit anyone who is open to the idea of not actually being in the presence of the “normal” or traditional real life classroom setting that we are all so used to, mainly to low income families (Vander Ark). Traditional schools differ from online schools in many ways. Nonetheless, they have many similarities at the same time. While people have the misconceptions of what an online school offers, other people are aware of the many entities that these schools offer such as other students, classrooms, teachers and degrees. We all know what a traditional school looks like; we have all been to one at one point whether it has been high school or even a college campus. There is a main office, lockers, classrooms, a cafeteria, a parking lot and a library. Additionally, desks and white or chalk boards are found in these classrooms. Teachers are always helpful; they have “office hours” where a student can get extra help with the subject they are struggling with. The classes which are offered by the college are only accessible during certain hours of the day. Their definition of night classes is anytime from five in the evening to nine...

Case Study #1 Emily is a five-year-old female student who is visually impaired. Emily has low vision and has some independence. She is able to see letters and numbers with amplification. In the past, Emily has been enrolled in a Head Start class with typical peers. Emily experienced great success in her preschool classroom. She had access to assistive technology that assisted her in participating in most activities within the class. Emily will be starting kindergarten in the fall. She will be in a general education class with typical peers. Emily’s parents, and her IEP team, expect her to be fully included in most activities. Please describe assistive technologies that will allow Emily to have access to grade level content and to participate with her peers in the classroom. For Emily’s case, with her weak vision she would be considered to have a sensory disability, or visual impairment which would affect her academics, and keep her from the average experience of a typical student in a day of the average life. Fortunately, for both visual and auditory sensory impairments, Assistive Technology and the innovations continually...

...School Polices: It is affective for children to have after-school activities or parents active in their school lives. Children should stay in school and graduate high school with a diploma for many reasons. Studies show that children who do not receive a high school degree or diploma are more likely to use drugs, work at a fast food restaurant, and struggle for money more than half their life. Whereas children that do receive a high school degree are more likely to have a higher paying income with brighter futures and tend to not struggle with finances near as much if any struggles at all. New and stronger polices are needed to keep children in school. Attending school should be required. Many students do not realize that even middle school as well as high school are what determine how bright a child’s future is. Many children use excuses like, horrible cafeteria food, too much homework, or not having enough free time, but these are all invalid excuses (Tyler and Lofstrom 77+). A child’s grades in middle school as well as high school are determining their future (Tyler and Lofstrom 77+).
