After spending six weeks at a local neighbourhood college known as, Baden Powell College, Tarneit. I noticed many pupils who engaged with their work in multiple ways Now and then it is obvious students lost motivation and stopped working. I had a rough understanding into the reasons behind disengagement amongst students, as a part of my course in year one was to complete a research assignment. I focus on student disengagement. Students seem to get disengaged due to the impact the contextual features have on their learning. From looking at the teachers plans it clear she attempts to do activities that engage students. Being a class that's dominated by boys who display indicators of being bodily-kinaesthetic learners. Hence, her activities are …show more content…
The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (2012) state engagement involves enriching a learning experience that seeks attention from students. It is important that students maintain their attention during class, as this will impact how the student understands the content that is being taught. Also a student’s contextual features, will impact a student’s level of engagement. Furthermore a key aspect of a student contextual features in the twenty-first century is the use of information technology. Results in a report done by The Australian Council for Educational Research found that information and communication technology engaged students more with their learning. They state it helps make ‘confident, literate, numerate and resilient students who are collaborative, creative and curious learners’ (The Australian Council for Educational Research, 2010 p. 53). Similarly, it is also important that students are not generalized. Browne & Haylock et al (2004) supports my statement by stating that it is dangerous to generalize as teachers because you are not taking in other factors such as, race, religion and
