After completing this 8 week course “Student Success” I have came to the conclusion that this is a course that will keep me on track, prepped and set up for success in future college courses.

Student Success
I learned week 3 if we practice all methods associated with great time management; the result would produce better quality work, organization, and less stress. Managing my time helps me multiple task, meet deadlines, study, and spend time with the family. I have learned the best way for myself to manage my time is to stay on track and stay disciplined.

Testing Anxiety is a continued battle at times for me. I try my best to prepare myself by using several techniques and tips I picked up during a couple test taking workshops. This course has opened my eyes and given me some new tools to go to battle with my test taking demons; also sharing and reading the post helped too. Getting a good night of rest, eating something light for breakfast, and during the test just stay focused and take deep breaths if need be to keep the stress level down. Taking good notes and using good penmanship with also help with test taking. I have in the past taken terrible note; there usually unreadable and not organized. I have worked on my note taking and penmanship; doing so my notes are easy to read and follow for my review. Finally once again Time Management, life moves fast at times; especially when you’re a shift worker, have kids, going to school, and trying to do things with the family it can get a little crazy. Time Management is so important, you have to learn to prioritize and stick to your schedule.

Finally, memorization skills; I have had issues with retaining information that I have read or studied. I even have trouble with names sometimes; luckily we wear uniforms with our names on them. When o would study for test I would crammed it would always show in my score.

Election

...Success Success can come in many various ways. Many men and women generally interpret success as being affluent in life. The meaning of success is clear, but complex because many people define success differently. The poor, the unpopular, and the popular people have their ways of being successful, while the rich have their own ways of being successful as well. People who are successful in life have a strong passion for their work. According to Oxford Dictionary, success is defined as the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. In Tom Perrotta’s novel Election, the two main characters, Tracy Flick and Paul Warren, illustrate their differences in their motivation and work ethic when running for student body president. Tracy’s disadvantage makes it harder for her to run for student body president against Paul, who is privileged, for success. In order to be successful, Tracy has to be self-motivated. Motivation is defined as the act or process of giving someone a reason for doing something. In the beginning of chapter one, Tracy explains her qualifications when running for president. Her qualifications were listed as, “President of the Junior Class, Treasurer of the SGA, Assistant Editor of The Watchdog, statistician for the basketball team, and star of last year’s musical (Oklahoma!, in case you’re wondering) (Perrotta 8-9). Outliers

...make them stand out physically among other boys who are several months younger than they are. Gladwell says that over time, the opportunities that these players have has help them build up to make them better players. So, Gladwell uses a sociological perspective to try to explain the reasons for people's success. Gladwell’s primary objective in Outliers is to show that assumptions like these are often wrong. Gladwell argues that achievement and expertise don’t just happen, but rather they result from a combination of various things and sometimes seemingly superficial factors. For instance, he points out those athletes born in certain months, is older and bigger, receive more attention as kids, and therefore tend to achieve more success in sports. So if their born in January or July it can dramatically impact the chances of going on to play professional hockey, be a professional baseball, or a successful soccer player any where in the world. This can also be seen in a classroom setting, where the older kids in the class often test better than younger students. The older students then receive more attention, praise, and opportunity in class as a result. As younger student you’re not expected to do well since they are consider not mature enough to understand the material. So there for they don’t get has much attention and our not push to succeed in school. Galdwell also believed the kids should be in school more time then they do now. He believes by...

Responsibility

... Smart and rational life choices will result in success in life. Even if life leads down an unsuccessful path, personal blame is the correct choice and not the blame of others. By understanding that concept, one can turn the unsuccessful path into a successful one. The connection of personal responsibility and success is prevalent in many parts of life, from work to personal life to school. Accepting personal responsibility is a key element for success in school. “Responsibility is ‘response-ability’ – the ability to choose your response to any event, even when the event itself is beyond your control”. (Ellis, 2011, p. 171) Elements exist during school that will be beyond control, such as group work and other team members completing their part of the assignment. By studying hard, participating in group work, collaborating with other students, and doing honest assignments, one can work toward personal success of the highest grade achievable. The work put into assignments will reflect the outcome of success. If there is no effort, the grade will reflect the lack of work. “There is another way, called taking responsibility. You can recognize that you choose your grades by choosing your actions. Then you are the source, rather than the result, of the grades you get”. (Ellis, 2011, p. 171.) By working hard and achieving personal success during school, and working toward a career, the focus can shift toward success in the workforce. As we progress in life...
