Social media is something almost every person has and uses constantly. Students are distracted by phones and media all the time. It has been shown that grades are lower for students that use phones in school, rather than students that do not. Students that do not use phones in school tend to get better grades because they are paying attention to what they are learning in class, and not focusing on their phones or media. Students that use phones in class tend not to care about what they are being taught, or just cannot take their eyes away from whatever they are doing on their phones.
Many young children also use social media and can end up being very unsafe. Online predators and scammers are able to get in touch with anyone who has social media. Children are more likely to get caught up in situations because they might not know what is going on, or who they are talking to behind the screen. Most children do not think about putting their accounts on private and allow anyone to see what they post, their …show more content…

People feel the need to be connected so badly they forget to be connected in real life too (Barnes). It gets harder to have a true human connection when everyone is on their phones, and choosing not to connect with the world and people around them. It makes people feel lonely and anxious, especially when they see they were not invited to something their friends where. People forget how to be social in person when they get so used to only being social on the internet (Barr). They don't think about what they post and forget when they apply for a job, the jobs will find what they have posted and it could affect the chances of them getting the job. How Technology Effects Children in Grade School

... Abstract It is thought that too much exposure to electronic devices is causing negative effects on the development, growth and health of children. The habits children learn at young ages will stick with them for the rest of their lives, impacting the way they learn. Constant exposure to portable technology platforms is thought to create distractions in children at young ages. Dangers Of Social Media Essay

...When looking to apply for a job, the platforms can be a sort of online, easy-access resume; and many employers use social media platforms for just that. As a result, it is imperative for students to be aware of what is and is not appropriate for future employers to see. While it may seem astonishing, people have lost jobs and even been arrested for posting inappropriate material on their social media platforms. There is also an apparent lack of control for some young minds as they are constantly distracted by the vibrating of their cellphones. Psychologist Larry Rosen discovered through his research that students who consciously control their social media habits have higher success academically than their distracted, impulsive counterparts. In consequence, students need to be carefully instructed on what impact social media can have on their life. With this in mind, they can thoughtfully integrate it into their life and use it as a tool to improve their...

It is amazing as to how the Internet is revolutionizing and changing people's lives. For example, social media can be a huge distraction. The internet is a network that allows everyone to become a different person. Also, schools had enough of students abusing social media networks in school. Social media must be banned from schools. The internet has provided our world with different means of communication and access to anyone at any second. The result is led to social network becoming a huge distraction especially towards students. It becomes such an addiction that they aren't able to control it anymore. The Kaiser family foundation reported that children ages 8 to 18 spend approximately 7 or more hours using social media networks and entertainment per day. To make this clear when you add text messaging, the hours soar up to 11 hours a day which is horrible for students. " People are paying more attention to the environmental stimuli at the expense of focus ( Anthony Wagner ) He is trying to say that students today would rather waste their time on social media instead of focusing on the things that will be beneficial to them later in life. Though technology has positive effects in our lives, it also has its negative side. Dilshad Fayeza Haque in her article, “Of Technologies and Lost Conversations” talks about how technology is negatively affecting our lives. She starts with the statement that technology has made us more distracted and careless. According to her, today, we do not use our intellect when doing something because we are too much distracted by technology. Additionally, Dilshad states that technology has demoted our privacy in social media networks while making us desperate for attention. She further fortifies this by saying that we are too blind to realize that technology has made us like this. Moreover, the author says that technology, also, has made us lose the true essence of friendship and made us less sociable in real life. However, she also claims that technology makes us behave awkwardly in social...

Is Technology Good for Us

...Ipad, were given to schools, would it be helpful for students? My feet are on both sides. Thanks to technology, we are able to grasp information easier and faster, but in return we are becoming lazier and losing the ability to think critically. Also if such technology were to be used in the classrooms, it may cause a distraction to students or even teachers. We also have to consider the amount of money that is going into programs like this because things like iPads are not free and fairly expensive. Technology, over the years, greatly improved and has been helpful for us. With technology, you are able to find information at a much faster rate than if you were to look for it in the books. For a book, you would have to search through page after page, reading almost everything to find what you are looking for. Whereas the Internet you can search by key words and it would show up faster. Cell Phones Negatively Impact Society and Social Interactions

...negatively impact society and social interactions The cell phone is a revolutionary technology gadget that has transformed how people communicate in the society. Cell phones have closed the gap of time and place to allow people to communicate at anytime from any place. Contemporary society has become more reliant on technology with the gadget of preference as the cell phone. Cell phones have created the perception of a more social society as people are more connected in modern society than they were three decades ago. The increased number and availability of cell phones have subsequently increased the volume of social interactions as people are able to socialize through multiple cell phone applications. However, the increased numbers of social interactions through cell phones have diminished the quality of interactions in society. Etiquette skills have deteriorated, family members no longer have time for each other, people have become oblivious to their surroundings, and a majority of cell phone owners have become addicts. Therefore, this paper will argue how cell phones have negatively impacted society and social interactions. Cell phones have allowed for the convenience of communication and interactions from any place and at any time. As a result, contemporary society has developed a culture of instant gratification that is fueled by the convenience of the cell phone. People will answer calls, return text messages and engage in social media interactions regardless of...

Why School Should Start Later

...With electronic games and app's there are many ways teenagers can become distracted and not get any sleep. With technology always being on 24/7 its a tempting thing for bored teenagers to always being on it either playing games, checking social media, and talking with friends. Before they realize it, its 3:30 a.m. on a Tuesday and they need to need to be up at 6 a.m. for school. That is their fault for staying up so late. Some if not most kids play a sport or are in a club of some sort or many even both or multiples of both. Most sports practices end around 7:30-8:00 P.M. then add in another 2-3 hours of homework plus some studying and other chores, before they know it, it's 1 A.M. and they are just getting to bed and they need to wake up at 6 a.m. for school. Is that their fault though? Yes, because they knew going into all the extra curricular things that they would be busy. They knew the demands...

Why We Shouldn T Cell Phones Be Banned In School

...I’m Brayden of Ms. Folendorf’s class, I believe that we should keep the school cell phone ban.. I believe this because in an average class of 25 kids with access to social media, only 1-2 of the kids get their homework done. It has also been proven that social media makes it harder for students to switch subjects and remember key details of a lesson. The final reason cell phones should stay banned is if students use their phones for research, it is very hard for the students to sort the research and may see inappropriate content. If students do get the privilege, they may get distracted while doing homework, this is proven in the article: “Cell Phones In Classrooms? No! Students Need To Pay Attention “ that very few people will complete their homework, a teacher ran a test and only 1-2 people had completed their homework and had completely shut off their electronic devices. This means that the kids had gotten very little homework done . In a survey by Pew Internet: states that “ 65% of kids admit bringing their phones to class even though they are banned.” Accordingly, if any of this happens in our school, it could very well affect the education of our school, this gives me the idea that this would be a fatal blow for the school and kids won’t get the necessary amount of education that is required....

...Tuesday, 2ND October 2012 Mrs. Horton Grade: 12H Students: Shannon Mackey, Kevano Bullard, Shakara Curry, Tenniel Musgrove, Joanna Sweeting The Use of Cell Phones in School One of the more controversial and most discussed issues that the Ministry of Education and school administrators face on a daily basis is where they stand with students and cell phones. It seems that virtually every school takes a different stance on the issue of cell phones in school. No matter what your school’s policy is, there is no way to completely keep all students from bringing their phones unless you do student searches every day, which is simply not achievable. Today in the Bahamian 20th Century Society, it is hard to imagine what life was like before cell phones. One of the ways that cell phones have revolutionized the way we live is “cell phones in school”. Some people think that phones have no place in schools, but banning cell phones in school would be like going back in time to a less convenient and safe time but on the other hand to some, It seems a little ridiculous for children in High school to have cell phones, but at the end of the day, this is a safety tool for kids and provides peace of mind to parents everywhere.. In a Country where unfortunately, we constantly hear about school violence, the cell phone provides an instant connection, not only to parents, but to authorities. If a student were to pull a gun at a school that banned cell phones, help would likely take longer...
