1. Results Interpretation: What do each of the following variance results tell us about the Clinic (i.e., what's the good news and what's the bad news)? Analyze in the aggregate and for each product line, as appropriate. If an analysis applies to more than one product line, you may combine product lines in your discussion for convenience. Use of bullet points are fine and, to the extent possible, encouraged.
Profit (total) variance = actual profit – static profit Revenue= Member months x premium
We see that the overall profit is -$329,366 than what was expected
.
What caused this variation?

When it comes to revenue, ideally HMOs would like to see enrollment high and utilization low along with costs down making profit high. The main contributors to profit variances are: Revenue issues, Cost issues, or BOTH. Revenue – Cost= Profit. HMOs make money through member months (enrollment) x premiums.
• The main issue with total profit variance is insufficient revenue from PC Commercial and increased costs from the other three product lines due to high utilization from which created negative variances causing decreased profits.
• The static budget expected margin was 12.7% The actual profit was significantly less than static budget with the actual total margin cost being at 2.7%
Revenue Variance:
• The PMPM rate increased in PC comm. the biggest provider, which impacted its revenue through decreased enrollment. Its enrollee amounts were less than the aggregates. SH comm. also had increased its PMPM rate but also increased revenue through number of enrollees. The increase in enrollees in PC Medicare, SH comm., and SH Medicare could be why the revenue still came out positive, although not what was allocated. Even though approximately 300,000 members were lost in PC comm. the premium increase compensates for that through costs almost entirely, just short of $50,000.(See Rate Variance)
Enrollment Variance:
• We compare the four product lines. PC Commercial has the greatest revenue variance because its member enrollment was so much less than originally forecasted. This is one of the direct factors affecting revenue. All three of the other product lines have greater than expected enrollments.

...Corporate Strategy Analysis Michael Sundberg MGT 230 November 24, 2014 Myles Suer Corporate Strategy Analysis When starting a business you must decide if a Flat Organization or Top Down Organization is best for your vision. A flat organization is typically within a smaller company where there is less middle management between the leader and the regular worker. Top down organization is generally for larger companies where there is a defined leader with a ladder of employees with multiple managers in between the leader and the regular worker. There are pro’s and con’s between each organization. With the flat organization you have more open lines of communication between all employees no matter their level within the company, whereas in a top down organization you must follow the chain of command leading to the leader. Also with a flat organization there tends to be less micro management as there are less managers involved, which allows the front-line workers to focus on the task at hand. On the other hand having a top down organization tends to have a more organized structure as you know each role given to each employee and there is a chain of command to follow. Both structures are good for different type of businesses. A top down organization is ideal for a company such as Apple Inc. who has many different products and departments and needs various managers at all levels. A flat organization would work well for a smaller company such as Nor Cal Beverage, which has only...

Reverse Discrimination Case Study

...The law courts have been struggling with various types of the discrimination cases including those that are considered reverse discrimination. Under the title VII of the civil rights act of 1964, the employers should not discriminate the employees based on race, sex, gender, religion or the nationality irrespective of who the victim of discrimination might be considered (Findlaw, 2017). Under the same title, the employers are not supposed to create programs and the policies that would have a disparate impact or adverse effect on the members of a protected class. However, the courts and the state laws have interpreted this in different ways in the discrimination cases with majority suers. Despite the fact that some forms of discrimination in...

The Closure of Toyota's Manufacturing in Australia

...Introduction With the high manufacturing costs and unfavorable Australian dollar that caused a difficulty for Toyota to export its cars overseas, Toyota has made an announcement that it will stop manufacturing cars in Australia in 2017 following Ford and Holden’s move (Wallace & Ferguson, 2014). The closure of Toyota’s car manufacturers in Australia will affect numerous people including the shareholders and stakeholders of the company. Also, this decision will affect the car making industry as well as the country’s economy. The purpose of this essay is to identify both the negative and positive consequences that will appear when Toyota stops manufacturing cars in Australia. The essay will also point out the responsibility bear by Toyota and the Australian government for these consequences. In this essay, the shareholder and stakeholder theories of corporate social responsibility are used to analyse and evaluate the decision made by Toyota. Background of Toyota Toyota Motor Corporation was first established in Japan in 1937. Business

...Case study: “Consumer protection”. Under UK law, customers have the same powers as in any other types of commerce. The government is also longing to change existing regulations to help to clear up any obscurity in present law to help trade and ultimately customer protection.  These acts and rules are the next: 1) The Data protection act 1998; 2) The Customer protection act 1998; 3) British codes of advertising and sales promotion; 4) The Distance selling laws 2000; 5) The Unfair contract act 1977 and 1999 laws; 6) The Sales of goods act 1979; 7) The Customer credit act 1974; 8) The Commerce presentation act 1968. So at the very beginning, a basic question in customer protection: who is the customer? The idea of the customer in legislation is of recent spring. The great part of law is still included in the Civil Code written in the late 19th century on the sample of the Code Napoleon. The Code still today gives the great part of the regulations governing agreements in general, the agreement of selling and the supply of services. It will hence come as no surprise that the concept of customer protection and the body of the customer had not yet been favourably identified or created at that point. The word “consumer” is noticeably missing from the Code which did not and still does not identify the notion of the customer as such. Much of the primary Code is still in its original form and some of its regulations do not depict the present...

Inflation and Economic

...CHAPTER I Introduction Stability is a prerequisite for growth and equity so that the rate of inflation is too high to be lowered by interrupting the growth and impoverish the small people on low incomes and fixed. That is why after the 1965/1966 crisis and also after the 1997 crisis, lowering the inflation rate is a top priority in which the government and Bank Indonesia has succeeded admirably. In three years, inflation can be derived from 650 percent (1996) to 9 percent (1969), after 1997 inflation can also be reduced from 70 percent (1998) to only 5 percent (2003). But stability is not just for the sake of stability, but for something larger that is equitable and growth. After rising fuel prices, the prices become so high that people's purchasing power is still low. Economic growth indicate that the government has not been able to open employment opportunities to the people. Meanwhile, the business world also slows down. This is because the minimum wage increases the demand which must be fulfilled. Unemployed increased every year, in 2004 unemployment reached 10,854,254 people. Therefore, the purpose of making this paper are: 1. Knowing the concept and the relationship of inflation and unemployment. 2. determine the condition of inflation and unemployment in Indonesia 3. What the policy taken by the government to control inflation and reduce unemployment, increase employment. CHAPTER II Theory 2.1 Unemployment Unemployment...

, •• 1 '. ...FINANCE AND FINANCIAL MARKETS 3,6 Types of financial intermediaries Financial institutions are like most other businesses in that they exist to make a profit and this is maximized by minimizing their costs and maximizing their revenue. Like most firms they can only survive if they design and sell products and services that can meet demand at a reasonable profit level. We now proceed to look at some of the key types of financial institutions that are involved in the process of financial intermediation; that is, the transfer of funds between surplus and deficit agents. We distinguish between deposit-accepting institutions, such as banks and savings institutions, and other types of financial intermediaries, such as insurance companies, mutual funds/unit trusts, pension funds, hedge funds and private equity and the like. 3.7 deposit institution an institution such as a bank or savings institution that accepts cash deposits Deposit institutions Deposit institutions accept deposits from economic agents. These funds become their liabilities which they then on-lend to make direct loans or investments, which become their assets. Deposit-taking institutions aim to make a profit in the way of 'spread income' between the cost of the deposits that they accept and other sources of funding, and the return that they receive on their investment portfolio in the way of loans, equity stakes and other investments. Examples of deposit institutions include commercial banks,...
